1865 Wine Cellar at Mountain View Grand Resort & Spa

I had my birthday dinner here and it was wonderful so was the food and service.
Having dinner in a wine cellar with only six other tables makes it feel so private, quiet, romantic! One alcove has a table for two or four with walls covered by wine racks. The ambiance is unbeatable if you're a wine lover or not! The food is incredible! The service outstanding! You need a reservation. It is a bit chilly since it is a wine cellar so dress accordingly.
Everything was excellent. By far the best duck I’ve ever had!
This place is the perfect spot for dinner. Surrounded by 5,000 bottles of wine and not many tables, you get that intimate dining experience. The food is 5 star and the wine options are endless. The duck was hands down the best duck I’ve ever had. Highly recommend this place and can not wait to go back.
Beautiful spot with fantastic food and service! Highly recommend!
Food was good, wine was very good, very quiet and intimate atmosphere. However, we waited an hour to get our food. Our server was very nice but we just got overtired and wanted to leave right after our meal.
Food was exceptional & beautifully presented. Great portions. I dined here last year & do miss the wine pairings with each entree menu. I felt that there were ample menu choices. Exceptional staff!!
Very great place and very romantic! The only suggestion I would have is we were there for Valentine’s Day. It would have been nice to know it was a fixed menu and price for the day. I saw nothing beforehand about it.
The food and service was fantastic, however for the setting it was beautiful but not as high class as you would expect for the cost. Our waitress is probably what made our visit most enjoyable as the hostess just seemed annoyed we were there and seating us was a chore. While the dinner was 75 a person, after our wine and such for spending $300 on an hour to ninty minute 5 course dinner I just thank our waitress and the decent food because otherwise I don't think I would have enjoyed the experience. The deserts weren't great, the beet salad was to die for, and the duck and filet mignon was no different then any other establishment.
Limited menu with duck listed as only appetizer (had to request and get another option approved as one in our party does not eat duck)- the main course left a bit to be desired - it was not flavorful and the filet was chewy and was a bad cut. The fried potato was soggy and the dessert we both didn’t enjoy. Wait staff were very friendly. Selection of champagne was not great. Valet definitely needs work, instead of just giving us a ticket and taking keys we had to walk in, find someone , give them our car info- then when leaving they did not walk us to car and open doors.... for the price I wouldn’t go back, MT wash hotel has a much better fine dining experience for approx the same cost.
We dined in a private corner of the wine cellar which was great. Unfortunately, the food was not on a level with the atmosphere. The tuna was actually “fatty”, something I’ve never experienced. We had to ask several times for a glass of wine before we received any. Overall it was a disappointing dining experience.
Service was extremely slow. Entree arrived an hour after the salad with no apology from the server. As a matter of fact we didn’t even see the server between salad and entree. Manager came around after we got the food with a non-apology of “at least the food is good” and “there are a lot of people tonight”. Found out later that he comped the meal of the table next to ours who weren’t waiting as long. Met with the general manager in the morning to discuss and she did apologize and comped the food. Won’t go back unless I see a series of reviews that indicate the service has improved.
Excellent all around!!!
The food was delicious. My boyfriend and I both got the ribeye and it wasn’t dry and seasoned to perfection. Can’t wait to come back
This dining experience was for our engagement. The waitress came over to our table, asked if it was a special occasion, we told her we just got engaged that day. She then said she would come back to review the menu with us, came back 10 minutes later (still without drinks) and asked what we wanted. No menu review. We sat for an hour before our appetizer came out. Then the meal was quickly behind it. She took my knife with my appetizer plate and never came back to check on us and we had to steal a knife from another table so I could eat. They did not provide steak knives and only had the butter knives that were on the table. It should not take much effort to cut through a Filet. At the end of the meal, she asked if we wanted desert. We said we would take a look at the menu, 20 minutes later, she came back and asked if we decided on anything. We never got a menu to look at. She then brought the check over and there was a bag and gift card that someone dropped off for us that was supposed to be delivered to our table. My fiancé had to ask for it so we could use the gift card to pay for the bill. Overall, the food was delicious, the service was terrible.
Our time at Dinner was a great romantic experience. Our server gave us a nice cozy corner. Pram our server was very nice and did an excellent job for us. She was very knowledgeable of the menu and was very personable through out the dinner.
Thank you for a nice time!
We were seated for 30 minutes before anybody even acknowledged our presence. We were literally told we could have only one piece of bread per customer due to not having enough to go around the restaurant. Once served out entrees, our server never bothered to check on us. Poor selection of wines. Our first three selections were out of stock, which seemed crazy considering it’s literally a wine cellar. Food was good, but combined with the poor service and poor wine selection it did not justify the bill of $147.00 for the dinner and drinks for two.
Loved our experience and the exceptional service. It was a tad cool and it takes about 20 minutes to get to room and back with a wrap, but was a relaxing and great experience.
One is literally in the wine cellar of the Mountain View Grand, rubbing elbows with the Pinots & Cabernets. The rib eye was cooked nicely. My wife loved her eggplant dish. And the wind pairings were perfect. Very good service too. Compared to the noisy family environment in the main dining room, the quiet, mellow vibe down in the Cellar was quite welcome.
Nice and quiet, servers were great! The food was delicious!!!!! We would most definitely come back!
Tuna and Filet were overcooked. Sent back and it came back cooked even more. We did not have end up eating. They comped the salad and appetizer that we ate.
My fiancé and I had an amazing experience at 1865 to celebrate our engagement. The size of the room was perfect for us to enjoy our time together and reflect on our perfect day. We could not have asked for better service as everyone was extremely friendly. I had read a few other reviews and had seen a mixed bag on the food but I got the filet and my fiancé got the chicken which were both cooked to perfection. The flourless chocolate cake was to die for! I would recommend 1865 to anyone who is looking to celebrate an anniversary or birthday or just looking for a great date night!
The food menu changed a week before we arrived. The year before, the food was fantastic. Little things made the meal off putting. Also they removed the 3 or 5 course option. It's nice to have curated courses because it helps people eat foods that are paired correctly. I like it because usually I get to try something new. Onto the food.... The bread came out quickly, but it was just a sad half a slice of sourdough. Our first course or appetizer was good, the bisque was fantastic. Dinner and dessert is where it fell apart. My lady's filet was cooked properly, seemed to be a ok cut of beef, but lacked any flavor or seasoning, it was advertised to have a bearnaise sauce, it did not, it had something, but I couldn't figure it out. The duck was good but so tough, almost impossible to cut. It should of already been sliced, and more crispy skin. I usually don't complain about portion size, but it was huge, I think I ate half of it as it was getting pretty rare on the inside. There were also no decent steak knives available. Our waitress told us the knives we had were it. They would of been ok for fish or scallops. They did find 2 steak knives in the kitchen after a bit of searching. The dessert was a complete joke. We had a creme brulee that was clearly not. It was served like a weird square on top of this mushy undercooked pie crust. It had a rock hard piece of what I think was whipped cream. It tasted old. The staff was visibly unhappy about every course and apologized to us. I felt really bad, left them a nice review on the survey with the check because they were very professional and helpful. In general, this establishment needs to bring back a more skilled chef and really focus on basic culinary details. Our expectations were not met from last year. We do love this hotel and will still be back. The property is amazing.
Food was outstanding. As well as the service . Andrew was amazing
Food was great, but a little expensive. However, no complaints overall.
Best sea bass I have ever had!
The cellar is beautiful. The small plates were very good but the large plates were just ok. The presentation of both the small and large plates was pretty poor. I had the scallops and ravioli. The scallops were on a small plate with broccoli surrounding it and the ravioli was places with shredded asparagus and mushrooms on top. The taste of the scallops was awesome but it wasn’t very appealing. My husband got the gnocchi that was served piled in a bowl. It tasted amazing but looked sloppy. For the large plates I got the lamb and my husband got the pot roast. Again the presentation was poor. My lamb was piled in the plate and the au jus was missing salt. My husbands tasted better and had a slightly better presentation with carrots and sliced potatoes. The wine pairing was awesome and our server had amazing knowledge of wine.
Not sure I think the 1865 Wine Cellar was worth the money, but still a nice meal!
The room and experience is very nice. The room is a wine cellar and kept cool, around 65 degrees but did not seem that chilly after a few minutes, and a glass of wine.
We started with the gnocchi and scollop appetizers. Both were good but of the two we preferred the gnocchi.
For entrees my wife had the lamb and I had the ribeye. It was cooked to perfection at medium rare. Both were fabulous.
Desserts were very good as well. We were so full by then we really just wanted to taste them but ended up eating most of each one.
For a three course meal at $68 it was well worth the price. Wines by the glass were all affordable as well or you could choose bottles that range from reasonable to several $100 or more.
Overall very good. Some soft background music would have been nice. We felt a bit rushed as when we sat down, we were presented with menu and it was explained in detail. We wanted to have a drink first before ordering food.
Would have preferred to have a 3 course without dessert and instead 2 sides.
Food was excellent but pricey.
Dessert was just ok..
Not good when the best part of the meal was the glass of tap water! The rib eye steak was very good, but not exceptional. I ordered rare and my partner medium rare, but the latter was no different to mine. The house wine that was recommended to go with the steak was awful. When I mentioned that to the staff I was met with, “It’s the wine we recommend so we go through a lot of it.” WTF - this is meant to be a high end restaurant that boasts about having 300 labels. Don’t serve up el cheapo chateau cardboard. The deserts were frugal to say the least.
Our wonderful waitress, Prim was superb! She knew her menu extremely well! Phillip was an extremely knowledgeable wine expert! He was able to recommend the perfect bottle of wine with our lovely dinner. The food was perfectly prepared and tasted magnificent. We love good wine, so, the atmosphere in the wine cellar was perfect! We live in Louisiana, but we will go back to 1865 Wine Cellar!

The food was excellent and the atmosphere was nice. It was cool to be surrounded by walls of wine.
Traveling through White mountains fo fall colors.
The pan seared scallops were delicious. The sea bass was not the best and it was served with too much fennel. The rip eye steak was delicious. The deserts were not great tended to be a bit heavy.
Great service and great food! We absolutely loved the atmosphere and how quickly we received each course!
Beautiful location and lovely server. First courses (scallops and ravioli) were delicious. Second course was so/so. Fish was bland, but husband liked his ribeye. Dessert was not great.
Good food, big portions, quiet (adult) area of the resort. It's in a wine cellar which means it's chilly - dress appropriately!
Our meal was very good. Enjoyed the selections to pick from in putting together our 3 course meal. Out waitress and the wine manager were lovely.
A bit too pricey but wanted a nice experience on our first night at the resort.
A truly wonderful dining experience. Amazing food, wine, and ambiance make this a must-have for any visit to the white mountains.
