    Wonderful evening - got seated on the patio and it was great as a hearing impaired person. The fried goat as well as the Caesar salads were fresh and quite large. Shrimp Provençal was delicious - not too heavy a sauce. Mussels were good but seemed quite small. Trout almondine was good but it would be better pointed out that it comes whole. We felt lucky that a staff member deboned it for us. Cody, our server, was fabulous.

    Table had puddle of spilled drink underneath so had to take care placing feet. Bread was not brought until the mussels and soup dishes had been cleared. Eggs Norwegian was just ok but the lyonnaise potatoes were over-cooked dark brown and mushy. Won’t be returning.

    Food and service was poor. Would not recommend to a friend and will not be returning. Filet had charred grill marks and tasted like burnt charcoal. Service was not good.

    With the exception of the snarky hostess (in a very short-for-her-age blue & white dress), we thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience. Coming from 90 miles away, we arrived before dinner service started and enjoyed a cocktail at the bar. I asked a member of the waitstaff to tell the hostess we were there and to let us know when we could be seated. Instead, she began seating others. When I told her we were the first patrons waiting, she snippily retorted that she was seating those with reservations first, which I told her we had. She continued to seat others, even though the other patrons told her to seat us. It was a special occasion; our granddaughter's 12th birthday. She specifically requested dinner at this restaurant because she enjoys the rabbit dish. Everyone else there was pleasant, friendly and the food was wonderful. While we didn't let 1 employee ruin our celebration, it amazes me that such people are allowed to serve as the restaurant's first point of contact.

    Service was extremely slow. We ate outside and everyone out there had the same experience. A table near us went to the bar and ordered and retrieved their own drinks due to being ignored by server. Took us 45 minutes to get a glass of wine we ordered. Took over an hour for any food to appear. My husband had the pork chop and his was very good. I had the shrimp and it was nothing special. I could have made it myself. The brussel sprouts I ordered as a side were very good-the best past of my meal. Patrons sitting outside were all bonding over the lack of service. Can’t speak for inside service, or if they were short staffed. No apologies or explanations were given.

    We were visiting Charleston for 2 days, and got an early Open Table reservation for dinner. There was only a 6:45 opening, but the restaurant was not even full at 7:30. Not sure what that’s about, since we really prefer to eat later rather than early. Good, not exceptional, but plentiful food. Pleasant service (thank you, Noah), and interesting surroundings. Brick walls, tin ceiling, distressed mirrors. The restaurant is right off King Street, the heart of Charleston’s shopping district, and the whole area has a great vibe.

    It was top notch from the moment we walked in! Our waiter Tom was attentive, the food was delicious. It was a perfect birthday celebration! The GM Mike was very involved in every aspect and checked in often!! Would highly recommend a visit here if in Charleston.

    Ambience and service were great, but food was mediocre at best. Everything was over salted. Had to send onion soup back as it tasted like liquid salt. Salad ok. Escargot were in a creamy butter sauce rather than a typical aioli so lost the garlic taste, pork chops under done, and trout tasted fishy. All in all would not recommend

    My husband and I ate here a year ago for lunch and had top notch service. We then had dinner here Saturday night and service was not good. Out of all the waiters we got one that did not pay attention to us. Literally took like 25-40 minutes to receive the different courses. He was nice, but just not on his game. I had the rabbit and it was very dried out. Mussels were excellent and the bread and crème brûlée were also excellent. Husband had scallops which were very good. Tables for 2 are much to small for what the kitchen is bringing out. Literally no room for it all. I recommend the mussels, and Escargot and crème brûlée.

    Excellent casual dining experience in the heart of Charleston. It was super busy, but the service kept up and we enjoyed the sarcasm of our server Jason very much! Food was delicious! We ordered trout, salmon, shrimp provencal, and pork chop. Everything came to our table piping hot, fresh, and just as expected. Very nice wine list, and a few unique cocktail choices. Pots de creme was divine!

    So disappointing. We have been coming to Rue de Jean for so many years. The service was so disappointing and the food was. I hope that the next time we visit it will be back to how it was. Sounds like all of the locals agree. The restaurant has gone downhill since Covid. Hoping it can get back to where it was.

    My husband and I ate dinner at 39 Rue de Jean before going to the theatre. Once again, the entrees and Caesar salads were excellent - prepared and presented with skill. Fresh bread is always a joy and they didn’t disappoint. Because the evening was early, the noise level was tolerable. We will come back.

    Food was ok but way over priced Three scallops two were perfect one was undercooked HOW Mussels were great Brussels sprouts were crispy on the outside and raw in the middle couldn’t get a fork in it Certainly not what Rue used to be

    Food was very good. Had steak tartar, escargot, scallops, and duck breast. Scallop and duck breast were delicious, with really good sides. Escargot was very good, a little overdone. Butter sauce served with escargot was delicious. Nice blend of butter, garlic, and wine. Steak tartar was good, could have been more tender. Was not sliced/ground small enough. Server was really nice, attentive, and helpful. Prices were a little high, Charleston is pretty pricey in general. Atmosphere was just ok. A little loud and tired looking. Could use a good scrubbing and a little facelift. I would go back again.

    Server was great. A party of 6, the rabbit was not good at all, rabbit was dry and not much of a sauce or gravy. As a Frenchman I know how a good rabbit stew should taste. Another party member ordered a steak Pittsburg medium rare steak and received a rare non Pittsburg steak. Sorry but I expected better food at one of my favorite restaurants.

    Head goat cheese salad. Not really a classic preparation. A bit sparse on the goat cheese, too. Had the large bowl of mussels. Meuniere preparation. Very tasty and fresh.

    We came to eat for my birthday. It was a group of 6 of us. Service was incredibly slow. My food came out cold and all food was brought out except one guests plate. That guest had to wait more than 10 minutes while the rest of us were eating. Also- there was no celebration or special mention of my birthday which was disappointing as well. Overall, not our greatest experience and will not be choosing to celebrate any special occasion here again.
