801 Chophouse – Des Moines
Roast Prime Rib
Au Jus, Horseradish Cream
Best Chops in Des Moines, wonderful flavors on steaks and the salmon was an unexpected surprise-best ever!
Our waiter was Zach, and he was above excellent! The food was fantastic, and we can’t wait to come back again!
Was a great place to eat. Staff were excelent and answered every question we had. Food was good. No complaints
Everyone told us this place was amazing but honestly the steak was similar to something we’ve made at home, and the salmon was fishy. We go to a lot of high end steak & seafood restaurants all over the US and this place is just “meh.” The best part was the creamed corn! We also tried the scalloped potatoes which were nothing special. The salmon tasted like it was unseasoned or not salted but was cooked to a perfect medium rare. The steak was also cooked perfectly and the Tuscan topping was a good addition.
Best prime rib of my entire life!! I could have cut it with a table knife! Chris was a great waiter, too!!
As always, food was great, staff was amazing and very accommodating
this venue hits it on all cylinders...setting, quality and quantity of food and service!
We had lively service from our waiter Michel. We like the ambiance. The ceilings are high so it is noisy when busy.
Wonderful place to eat. A+ service and food.
First timers and overall we the dining experience went fantastic. Thanks
Excellent service and food. Completely accommodating and honestly one of our favorite restaurants in the world. Thank you 801.
This visit was disappointing because of the food quality. The tenderloin was a bit tough and chewy and hard to cut. Hash brown potatoes over cooked. Dessert souffle tasty.
Absolutely amazing experience. We celebrated our 25th anniversary and it was exceptional. Our server Colin offered the perfect suggestions and was warm and friendly. The cocktails were delightful, the food wonderful and the ambiance was perfect. A must stop in Des Moines! Oh and their Sunday Supper menu is a steal!!
Food was amazing, service was outstanding. It was super noisy and hard to have a conversation with my wife on our 1 year anniversary.
Skip was the best waiter we've had in Des Moines.
It is our favorite place to go to celebrate special occasions. Always consistent and always excellent cuisine. Fabulous wine list and outstanding service. 801 never disappoints!
First time there overall it was probably in my top 5. We will be back. Want to try some of the other locations also
Great service and food. Great place to celebrate a birthday!
We made reservations several weeks ago and were unfortunately seated in the bar area tables- it was very loud, perhaps the main dining room would have been a bit easier to talk. One of the best filets I have had in ages- don’t skip the truffle butter! Brussels sprouts were not crispy as we like them- skip those but the creamed corn was perfect Iowa corn!
Overall a great evening, we will return!
Spent $900 for six for a table of friends
Thirty minutes after arrival at the table the waiter showed up for the first time!
Cocktails and wine took another fifteen minutes!
Bread & water showed up with wine & cocktails!!
Table was way too small for six guests, AND the table was so squeezed in between two other tables, it was impossible for guests or serving staff to navigate the tight area!
Noise level was so loud we were restricted in our conversation at our table!
I have enjoyed 801 in Omaha many times, and enjoyed it.
The Des Moines operation is a never again for all of us. Too packed, too slow, too noisy, and the server was responsible for way too many other tables at the same time.
NEVER AGAIN for us. Todd from Duluth
Second time in last few months that i have gone and been disappointed. Last night The au poivre sauce was like maple syrup so sweet it ruined the steak, also a filet should not have a giant chunk of fat in the middle of it. My wifes scallops were fishy and 4 scallops and 12 kernels of corn on the plate does not justify the 42 bucks
Last time. I had the prime rib and it tasted more like a pot roast then prime rib.
The staff and restaurant itself are great but I’m not going back for a while. Maybe things will change
Steak was perfectly done and excellent. Sides are family style.
Try the Old Fashioned with 801 bourbon - it’s terrific. Michael was our waiter and did a great job. I was at a Chop House in Chicago 2 weeks ago. This was just as good for 1/3 the price. We will be back!
Impeccable service mixed with outstanding quality food brilliantly prepared in a lovely and thoughtfully decorated environment makes for a fantastic and memorable meal. Thank you.
The staff and food was just amazing. It is pricey, but is truly an amazing experience.
We were celebrating our anniversary. Skip was our waiter. He made it very special for us. We never felt rushed. Food was delicious. It is our special occasion restaurant. We love it.
Best damn steak I’ve ever had the staff a very knowledgeable and the seafood is phenomenal definitely eat here if you have the opportunity
I enjoyed my time there as it it was my first experience at 801. The potatoes were fantastic.
Our waiter was great. Provided excellent recommendations on drinks and food. Very personable.
Food was outstanding, the scalloped potatoes were a real standout, and the service was top notch. My only comment has to do with the wine. Because my wife does not drink if I want wine with dinner I get wine by the glass, of which 801 has a very nice selection. My comment has to do with temperature. 801 does what many restaurants do which is serve its red wine by the glass at room temperature, which I’m guessing was around 70 degrees. That is too warm for reds which are best at 55-60 degrees. I expect this at run of the mill restaurants but 801 is a high class place and should do better. I know this is picky but it’s a pet peeve. That being said overall a wonderful experience and we will visit again next time we are in town.
It was our first time at 801 Chophouse. We read the reviews and made a reservation for 7:30. We were pleasantly surprised. The food was very good. The Porterhouse with the bone marrow sauce was excellent!! Our server, Chris B did a great job recommending items from the menu. Thank you 801 Chophouse!! !
Great food and service
Great food and very good service! Excellent steak house and great wine list!
Great food and great service. Second time in one week
Server had great advice on menu and wines. Great steaks and sides. Fun evening. Busy place!
We had a birthday and originally had 4 people. Then we had another person able to make it. The app wouldn’t let us add the person, but we called the restaurant and they were more than willing to accommodate. Great experience
Fantastic meal and awesome service. Great experience for my wife’s birthday. Thank you. We will be back
Service was impeccable. Food was delicious. Booth was cozy and private. You pay for what you get, but it’s worth it!
Loved it ! Service was on point .
We were in Des Moines for a conference. Lucky enough to grab an early reservation. Food was delicious!
It was great as always. We have been several times and always enjoyed our visit. The food is alway excellent. This is the first time where we felt that one of the appetizers was subpar. The onion rings were a bad choice. It’s not their forte. It’s a little odd anyway for the rest of the menu but we thought we would try it once. The steaks were done perfectly and delicious. The hash browns were exactly like my wife ask for them to be cooked. My gets the sea bass and loves it when it’s available. We will definitely go again.
