I made a bar reservation for 6:00, and we were shown to two barstools at the cozy end of the bar, promptly at 6:00. The ambiance was mellow and dark, and the space is modern but warm. We were immediately greeted by a friendly server, who wound up giving my girlfriend a free glass of wine, just because. Overall friendly service, beautiful space and decent value. We'll definitely be returning :)
Despite some very good general reviews in the past, we found the experience to be underwhelming. From having the waitress try to take her order with her standing behind our back’s to the mushy sausage, it was very little to brag about. We did like the rock shrimp salad and the beef tartare was good.In general the service was rather strange but the dessert was the highlight of the night. Since many of the items for restaurant week were from the normal menu, we found it disappointing and will move on to another restaurant in the future
A colleague and I ate here during Restaurant Week and we were very impressed with both the quantity and the quantity of the food. It's a small place, so a bit noisy on a Friday night, but we were seated earlier than our reservation and served promptly and attentively throughout our meal. We shared four starters, which would, honestly, have been enough for a meal. All were tasty and delightful. The entree was branzino for two, and the fish was delicate and flavorful. We were too full to eat our dessert, but we took them home along with other leftovers. Moist apple cake with a side of cream frosting was just as wonderful the next day. It was my first time eating here and I would definitely return.
Excellent food and the staff assisted in meeting our needs. Thanks
Actually I went to a.kitchen for CC Restaurant Week. The food was great. Oysters on the half shell were fresh and briny. Nice presentations.
Went for restaurant week. It was amazing!!!
Excellent beverage selection, and “fine bar food.” Very enjoyable.
Excellent service, along with interesting and very well made and presented food. Great experience in cozy space.
The waiter totally ignored us. Never asked if we liked our food. One item ordered never came. They need to work on training their servers. Would not go back there.
It was okay, but we are unlikely to go back
Nice place and will use again for future matches. Thanks!
great dinner or drinks spot. great people watching and impeccable service. Had a great dinner with girlfriends and the atmosphere was inspiring and conducive to conversation and enjoying each others company
Restaurant Week meals were all great!
Everything was great for this mothers day brunch reservation, except... they hadn't opened yet when we arrived for our reservation...
a.kitchen promptly seated us in the bar area instead.
There service was amazing!!! Thank you for a delightful lunch experience!
Over-priced lunch menu with ONLY 4 entree selections. Yes; only 4. Burger was tasty but not very hot and we were the only 2 guests. For $18.00 for a burger, come on! Get it right.
The food was fine at a.bar. The service was excellent as were the cocktail choices. My only issue is the price. given that a.bar is situated between dozens of eating choices, one would think the price would be in line with the surrounding restaurants, particularly catering to the lunch crowd. We paid 90 dollars for lunch, which makes this place about 66% higher than the surrounding areas -- the portion size is not reflective in the price. Small portions/high prices. too bad, because we liked the atmosphere, but as a couple that eats out daily, this place is just too pricey.
Fantastic. A hidden gem.
This was a wonderful experience today. I had only ever been here for dinner and was very curious what their lunch would be like. The quality of the serice and food was excellent. I am also always impressed by the diversity and skill level of the staff. If you go here for lunch or dinner you will not be disappointed. I had the beef tartar and the sea bream. Both were well executed and portions were generous for lunchtime. I will definitely be back. Oh as a side note they do a 28 dollar with course special that makes lunch here affordable.
Menu for lunch is small but really delicious, and love having the full bar service! Can't beat the location overlooking Rittenhouse Square :)
Had a business lunch there last week and enjoyed the white bean app with toasted multigrain bread, octopus and fish sandwich all of which were excellent. The salmon tartar was also very good. The service was warm, hospitable and spot-on.
From the description on OpenTable we expected a "normal" restaurant but upon arrival we found that it consisted of 3 bare bones, "diner style" tables and a menu that fit on a double wide postcard. Prices were very high ($3.25/oyster!) so since we had made a reservation, we ordered a glass of wine and a few oysters and went elsewhere.
Great customer service. It was a quiet afternoon. Bar food was very good.
Lunch menu is limited at a.bar, but the food was good. My burger was slightly over-done, but tasty. I think this spot is better for a cocktail and a snack...a.kitchen for a meal.
The menu is limited, but what they do, they do very well. The Spanish octopus was exceptional, and the Old Bay fries were perfectly prepared. The price for the quantity of each portion, though, was on the more expensive side of what I'd like to be paying for a lunch menu at a bar.
Food was ok but there was almost no selection. Little ambience. Essentially a bar without the typical bar munchies. I won't be going back
Small but diverse, clever lunch menu with a strong seafood focus. Center City pricing, pretty much what you'd expect ($$->$$$) but with enough value items (under $20). I had the burger, my companion had a turkey-LT, both well made, tasty sandwiches. We were lucky to catch this chic little spot not busy, so it was great for both conversation and people watching on one of Philly's busiest corners.
Been there for lunch several times recently and the food has always been excellent, as has the service. The shrimp louie salad and the sear albacore salad are both delicious. I hear the burgers are also good. They have a very limited, but high quality menu. Definitely a little pricey
though for what you get.
Took a chance on a new place to take clients and this place was solid. The waitstaff was courteous and efficient. We had great sandwiches, all of which were prepared and delivered as expected. Burgers were cooked to temperature, salads were crisp and cold, and bacon on the club was still warm. It's a small place, and built for the drinker, but we found our corner and enjoyed a great meal. It's a stretch for the executive business lunch, but great if you are comfortable with your clients.
We liked the bar for what it was, but be warned. This is not a restaurant as described by OpenTable and Google Maps. Good food, great bar, but very limited food menu and no vegetarian options.
Robert took care of our party of six at the cozy table near the window. This was a business lunch - the service, food and environment were great.
Took colleagues here for a business lunch. Great spot!
Interesting place for lunch, my first time there. Food was very good. I didn't know there was an a.kitchen as well. My colleagues have dined here before and love the place.
Absolutely, one of the best meals I have had in a long time. Menu is fresh, local, different and extremely flavorful. Clams on toast was melt in your mouth delish!!!!
Can't wait to go back.
This is great location to be seen, all glass right on the corner. But the service is lackadaisical and the space is very small. Not always the best combination. It is okay but I prefer great service and a feeling I can relax.
I am a regular at this restaurant and like to treat out of town guest for lunch or brunch to introduce Philadelphia downtown & Rittenhouse square ambience. Never be disappointed with great food and service. Lively but with classy atmosphere. Nice modern deco!
Service was terrible. We waited almost an hour for our drinks. We ordered the octopus with potatoes, it was potato and where is waldo for octopus. It was so loud we could not communicate with each other. On top of that, it was very expensive.
Went here after work for drinks and appetizers only to leave after one drink because there were only 2 things on the menu that were suitable for my vegetarian friend. The bar was cool inside and a great way to people watch from inside. Our waiter was extremely slow and we only ordered drinks- I cant imagine how long we'd have had to wait if we ordered food. We were really disappointed. (I gave the food one star because it was required-but we didn't eat anything here)
The food at their sister restaurant a.kitchen is amazing, but a.bar's lunch menu feels like a kid sister trying too hard. Our favorite thing was the old bay fries. My friend had the lunch special of hand drawn noodles in dashi broth which she said had very little taste. It was served with cucumber salad that also looked sad. I had the fried chicken which I ate out of hunger.
The food is uninspired and the service is lacking. Oh and I told my server we had a reservation, nope he actually marked us as no-show and I had to go through an entire hoopla to get my 1,000 points.
Do yourself a favor and go to a.kitchen
Food and the service needs work.
Best thing about dinner was IPA we ordered. We ordered 2 - but only got one, since it kicked! which we didn't find out until after our waiter disappeared for .......a while. Ordered some nice selections for a hefty price. Tuna melt and Shrimp Louis. It looked great, but tasted kind of ordinary. Disappointing , but we want to see the place succeed, manager was very receptive to us.
