   Always excellent food at Ajanta - original and inspired dishes not always found in every Indian restaurant. The food has, for years now, been as good as any Indian restaurant in the East Bay. Probably better. Service is very efficient - food comes quickly.

    We haven’t been to Ajanta since the pandemic. I’m so glad they’re still in business. The food is tasty, lovely presentation, and hot… just marvelous! We recommend the garlic naan bread! Thank you!

    My grandchildren picked Ajanta as their restaurant of choice (ages 18 and 16). We encouraged them to try the chef’s sampler. Needless to say, they ate everything and were delighted with the food. They are the next generation of happy customers!

    The staff was very friendly and the naan was exceptional. We ordered our dishes medium-hot, but we were disappointed that they were not spicy at all, and the sauces were a rather bland. The red wine was not good. They would do much better if they offered higher quality wines.

    Horrible food- what happened to the cook? I ate there about 15 years ago or maybe 20 years ago and the food was excellent. Everything was either horrible or just okother than the naan and rice.

    I've eaten here many times, and the food is always excellent, as is the service. (I'm from India, and I have high standards for Indian food.) Had the tasting menu for the first time, and really enjoyed it. A really nice variety, and very good value for money, we felt.

    The vegetarian tasting menu was delicious and had good variety. The staff were very friendly though language barriers with some staff led to a little confusion over some things. All was resolved with smiles and patience. My only complaint is that some of the food was not hot in temperature when it should have been. It was warm-ish.

    We had an early reservation and we’re seated immediately and given our choice of tables. We were one of only a few diners but it appeared that there was a busy takeaway business. The service was pleasant and friendly, the food was ample and decent, but not amazing. We had a lamb curry and a fresh vegetable dish. Both came with palak paneer and a choice of rice or naan. We ordered mildly spiced since you never know how spicy something might be. It was actually way too mild for me and I requested something to help spice it up. I was brought a dish of hot sauce which was ok but not ver imaginative. We had the kheer (rice pudding) which was wonderfully spiced, and the cardamom and pistachio gelatos - both very flavorful and worth the calories.

    The Tandoori Portobello mushroom appetizer is one of the most delicious food items I have ever eaten. Every time I go to Ajanta, we start with this appetizer. Everything else is great as well (I am partial to the lamb chops), but definitely start with the portobello.

    Ajanta is my favorite Indian restaurant. My husband and I drive 32 miles passing many other Indian restaurants to eat at Ajanta. The food is always memorable and the service is great.

    For many, many years, always top-notch Indian food, including this time. This is a slack period, with more take-out orders than diners in the restaurant, and we hope to see the place bustling with people next time, as it was pre-pandemic. The current owner-manager is very friendly and pleasant. There are excellent wines to accompany the food; our Navarro zinfandel suited it perfectly.

    Noise level is important to me as I'm fairly deaf. At Ajanta, I always help finding a table that is most likely to be quiet. It's hard to express how much I appreciate this. Staff are friendly, courteous and accommodating. And of course the food is always wonderful! This is by far my favorite restaurant in the East Bay.

    My family and I have been to AJANTA perhaps 15 x's the past few decades, but this was the first time the past five years with pandemic and more... COVID has clearly impacted all restaurants... However the welcome greeting, table waitstaff services from start to finish.. the overall quality of food... cleanliness of the restaurant, utensils, and restrooms etc... continues to be 4.5 to 5 star! My only complaint is that the: COOK BOOK and the SPICE BOX is not available LOL ... since it was the previous owner/chef's proprietary property. It's time to support fine local restaurants again like: AJANTA and local N. Berkeley/Albany establishments again! We will definitely be back to AJANTA.. we still enjoy eating the> Samosa, garlic naan, lamb chops, and soup!

    Wonderful meal, and friendly attentive staff! Delicious skillfully crafted food. Good wine selection. Ate every bite. Only disappointment was the they seem to be cranking out the pick-up/delivery meals, and thus the restaurant dining was nearly empty, no table linens, etc. It felt a bit post-Covid apocalyptic. Looking forward to the return of a romantic indoor dining experience. The meal was excellent though. Would order for pickup anytime.
