The new owners have not replicated the excellent menu of the founders. The paella Valenciana, one of my favorites was mostly rice and not ample amounts if seafood or chorizo. A real disappointment.
I hope they improve since I went there often entertaining clients and staff
The staff was so sweet and the food was wonderful! Truly a unique experience
New owners have put new life into a wonderful Spanish restaurant
Great food, great service, and great ambiance! It was our first time, so we ordered based on our waiter's recommendations and all were hits - we especially enjoyed the Patatas Alioli. The restaurants is also quite spacious and we appreciated the close adherence to COVID-19 health protocols.
I've always enjoyed this place. I was worried that with the new owners that perhaps the food would not be the same. But to my surprise, it was exactly the same. I really enjoyed this place the last time there.
Amazing food and service
Finally had a chance to eat indoors again. That in itself was pleasant return to normal. The food here is wonderful. Sampled a variety of cold and hot Tapas and had the paella Valencia (mixture of mussels, clams, chicken, chorizo). If you have the chance to dine here, don’t forgot to try their Homemade Sangria - absolutely divine!
My friend and I had the best service at Alegrias. Our server was so kind and attentive. The wine and food is fabulous. Highly recommend!
we have fun
Horrible food
Great Spanish food! Great comfortable atmostphere. Would recommend!
Very good food and great service! Tried a variety of Tapas and all good.
My son and I had a delicious meal. We loved everything about it...the food, the atmosphere and even the owners!
The tapas and paella restaurant is under new ownership and the result is excellent. Both the food and service were outstanding. In fact, the new owner was appropriately attentive to ensure our most pleasant experience.
I went here on a date with my boyfriend last Friday. If it weren't for OpenTable, I never would have found this hidden gem on Lombard St. From the start, we felt very safe. As soon as we walked in, the nice lady at the front took our temperature and led us to a socially distanced table inside. Inside the restaurant was lively...enough: not too busy, not too empty, just right. Seemed to be compliant with the new SF orders for safe indoor dining at 25% capacity and the staff were all wearing face masks. Once we sat down the waiter masterfully suggested a great Spanish wine, appetizers, and paella. We decided on the mussels, octopus, and black ink paella. Overall, the food was delicious and the place was cozy. This was the first time since the beginning of the pandemic, we felt things are heading back to "normalcy." We will definitely be back and are super excited we found this great Spanish date spot.
The most INCREDIBLE food, atmosphere, service, & drinks at an unbeatable price. If you’re even debating for a second about going to Alegrias let this be the sign you’re looking for to GO. Not only was every single thing we ordered beyond amazing, the amount of love & care we received from Amand & his wife will keep us coming back. It felt like having dinner at your family’s! Such an unforgettable experience I am already looking forward to our next visit.
Amazing food partnered with a wonderful experience. The couple that own the restaurant are so warm and welcoming. Absolutely recommend the crab cakes! Can’t wait to go back and visit soon. Perfect for a quiet date night.
Very pleasant and relaxing dinner.
Awesome / 10/10
Surprised this place has good yelp reviews. Food was mediocre at best. It’s so hard to find good Spanish tapas, even in a big city like SF.
delicious fresh food, great service and the owners are so friendly and nice.....looking forward to our next visit!
They were short staffed, and we didn't get one of our appetizers until we discovered we didn't receive it. We only found out when our main dishes came out and still we didn't get that particular appetizer. They did apologize and it can happen, but we always seem to wait to get our water glasses refilled on a normal night. Or we have to remind them.
The food is as good as ever, but I think for the prices a bit more of a portion on the tapas is needed. They're pretty meager in portion for the price overall.
We love the paella with squid ink. Each time we visit SF we will eat here. Great tasty food.
Fabulous food! Fabulous services! Appetizers fabulous! Paella fabulous!
Loved it! Great food, good service.
It was great traditional and authentic Spanish tapas. None of that California fusion that ruins food from other cultures. This is the real deal!
We were very surprised to learn that there are new owners as of January 1st, 2020. The last visit we made was in late 2019.
The menu is the same as are the prices at least for now. There are only two of the original servers working there now. New owner is very pleasant and welcoming.
The food is still the same quality and flavor so that's a good thing. I do not believe they had any specials as we weren't told about any. But it didn't matter as what we ordered was as great as ever.
I know that the staff were extremely busy especially as it was a Saturday night and almost all of the tables were filled. However, we had to remind them about getting our water glasses filled twice and still they were so busy they forgot. Eventually after a long wait we were able to accomplish this.
This was a date night and I wanted to take my partner to a nice, romantic restaurant. This restaurant definitely fit the bill with the dimly lit dining area and quaint decor. We had a deliciously sweet sangria (most enjoyable compared to others I've had) to start with and a few tapas; Mejillones Alegrias (mussels in wine sauce), Bocadillos de Cangrejo (crab cakes), and Tortilla de Chorizo (potato omelette with sausages) along with the Paella a la Marinera (classic paella) to share. Everything tasted great, though in small portions. It was over $100 for 2 and we didn't even have dessert. We weren't completely stuffed, but didn't want to indulge even further with dessert. This was a bit pricey for an everyday meal, but perfect for special occasions.
Great experience all around, from the energy and ambiance to the quality and authenticity of the food. It was simply a wonderful, happy place for our dinner. Noise was mid level & we were able to converse with no problems.
Portions were bigger than anticipated. Solid food, nice wait staff. Was fairly empty and there was an off-putting musty odor when walking in from the street. Set a negative tone, but the remainder of the experience was pleasant.
Always enjoy this restaurant and Tapas.
Charming little tapas spot with great service and authentic tapas dishes. You can't go wrong with any of the dishes and the servers will gladly recommend favorites and specials based on your taste.
Great tapas meals, cozy, authentic Spanish feel and decor. We had to wait a bit for a booked table, but it was Christmas Night - so we were just grateful for the opportunity to have a great meal.
Thank you for the great food, and the awesome service...
The best part about the meal was fantastic wine and delicious tapas. Skip the paella - it did not taste that good. The dessert was too sweet and not worth the calories.
The restaurant was a short walk from our hotel so we thought we would try something different. I am glad we did! Everyone who greeted us was friendly. My wife is vegetarian and our server helped guide us through the menu options for her. Each dish we tried was so very flavorful! To top it off the space was quiet and cozy and made for a romantic dinner.
We were looking for food food in a family owned restaurant with ambience and not too noisy. Loved it.
Excellent and caring service. Great ambience!
Everything was delightful. Excellent service, wine, and food. A warm friendly place for a group celebration or an intimate dinner for two. It’s been our neighborhood favorite for almost 20 years.
One of our favorite SF restaurants. Always satisfying.
