Great Food and Service
Everything was very good, only one issue, sometimes the service was nowhere to be found.
Consistently good food all the time. Fresh and delicious. Wonderful service. Never disappointed
We’ve been going to Antica Trattoria for years and have never had a bad meal. Our favorite place to take out of town guests.
Another 5 star visit - love this place. They are always so accommodating, including making what I want even if it's not on the menu if they have the ingredients.
Absolutely amazing food!
Always a pleasure! Great food, great service & wonderful atmosphere!
Just delicious! This is our go to neighborhood restaurant that happens to be very special. The food is consistently great all of the time. Lots of great flavor, freshness and delivered to the table by a wonderful waitstaff. Our favorite waiter is Ludo, his wonderful smile greets you , if you let him he’ll tell you what to eat and has that wonderful Italian charm. I am a very fussy eater, and have high expectations of what I eat and Antica really does the trick!
Our food which is usually very hot arrived less than hot. No one came to see how we were doing so we ate it, but when waitress came we told her and they gave us a free dessert!
Consistently delicious and great service and ambience
I was disappointed in the time it took for service and our meal. The food was excellent!
Delicious fresh food, very fast and friendly service, great wine list, enough variety on menu to come back many times. Would absolutely recommend but make a reservation, it got very busy!
Service was lacking. Would not laities at a table that she was serving again. The service is usually great. Very different experience this time she was inattentive, absent minded and uninvolved.
I was visiting San Diego and wanted to find a good authentic Italian restaurant. Read an article by Michael Parente and Antica Trattoria was highly rated. Don’t let the strip mall location fool you. This was an extraordinary southern Italian restaurant with superb food. Everything we had was good, from salads to pastas, fish, other dishes and desert.
Nice atmospheres. Waiters and everyone was friendly. Meals were prepare and delivered quickly. Tasty food. Will be back in the near future.
Wonderful food and service. We celebrated my Mom's 69th birthday and everyone loved their food. We will be back!
Great ambiance! My co-worker commented he thought the lunch chef was not highly experienced, said his meal was plated weird. My meal was good. The appetizers were excellent. There was a long wait time even though the restaurant wasn’t full. But it was also nice to not feel rushed. The serving sizes were generous.
Antica is such a classy little restaurant with excellent cuisine. A nice place for any special occasion or just lunch as we enjoyed yesterday.
I love Antica Trattoria and go there every chance I get.
The hubby and I celebrated our wedding anniversary here. Service was mediocre, food delicious and the chef special was a fantastic deal: 3 course meal with bottle of wine for $85!
Restaurant is pretty noisy - food is outstanding.
Consistently excellent food & service. Always a favorite.
We have been here twice and both times have been excellent - food, service, ambiance. We will be sure to bring friends/family when they come visit!
Delicious and authentic Italian food. Everything we ordered had great flavor. Worth every penny.
Highest marks to this fine restaurant in regard to food and service. I was a little disappointed in the noise level, but I guess when anything’s this good you have to share 😃
Well, what can we say, but magnificent!! We arrived early and sat at the bar and had a glass of wine.
Our waiter came up to us and told us our table was ready. We sat and there was no rush. We ordered our food and some of the best bread and dip was brought to our table. We received our salad, we ordered the Burrata which was Heirloom tomato + Aged balsamic + Basil + EVOO, delicious and the fresh cheese was absolutely the best.
For main course I ordered the Brasato Braised all-natural Angus Boneless short ribs + Cabernet Sauvignon + Fresh herbs + Mashed potatoes + Vegetables, the short ribs were sooo tender and tasteful, I did not need a knife to cut them. The sauce was awesome. My wife ordered the Duroc Pork Chop with
Dried black figs + Balsamic + Cinnamon demi glaze again very tender and flavorful and big portion.
My cousin ordered the Salmone Pistachio crusted wild salmon + Prosecco orange sauce + Spinach risotto, she said that has not had salmon that good ever. Enjoyed the taste and texture was great.
This was a meal that you enjoyed and did not rush through. And barely was there room for dessert.
Two of us ordered the Tiramisu which was excellent as was the Volcano Cake that my wife ordered.
This is a hidden gem in La Mesa, we will be coming back to our new favorite Italian restaurant.
Had a great dinner with friends. The food and service were fantastic.
This restaurant is authentic Italian food. No spaghetti. Service is always wonderful. Make reservation for dinner gets really crowded.
A hidden gem in East County! Everything was top notch. They even offered to cater to our “difficult eater” son!
Again and again Antica Trattoria provides excellent service, excellent food, and a memorable experience. Their specials are so amazing, I can't remember the last time I ate off the menu!
The food and service at Antica Trattoria are NEVER disappointing. Reservations are usually necessary, however. The noise level attests to its popularity!
A little hidden gem in a strip mall! The food was wonderful and the staff was impressive. Can’t wait to go back!
We had a great time! Staff was amazing!!!!
This is a first class neighborhood restaurant The prices are very reasonable considering the quality of the food and service. This is truly a hidden gem for the La Mesa - San Carlos area .
Excellent as always. Attentive service particularly when a new hostess tried to first seat us in a crowded corner even though there were plenty of empty tables elsewhere, then she was going to seat someone right next to us - again, there was plenty of room elsewhere. The server intervened both times to our enduring gratitude.
Great place for us to enjoy a fabulous evening with our friends!
An absolutely amazing experience. Such personal care by all and unbelievably delicious food. It has a warm and friendly atmosphere that feels like being in a community. A very special place indeed.
Crowded and pretty noisy on a Friday evening, but as usual, everything about our experience at Antica Trattoria was outstanding. Our grandson joined us at the last minute and the staff made room for him and did a great job of managing five people at a 4-top table. My oldest son's first Risotto was perfectly done and has made a believer out of him. Michel Parent of the Union-Tribune called this San Diego's best Italian. I call it East County's best restaurant of ANY kind.
I brought my husband here on his birthday last week. Frankly my choice was made on the basis of proximity (we live about 10m away so we could talk a Lyft to get here so that he could actually drink on his birthday) and because of other rave reviews on Open Table. I frankly was not expecting too much. The exterior is not impressive; it's in a small shopping center next to a pet food distributor. Once inside, though, everything changes. The atmosphere is great, not least because of the welcoming staff who made us feel like family from the moment we entered. The food is $#$! out of this world. Not to be a snob (ok maybe a little) I am from NYC and have had my share of great Italian food. This place ranks with the best of the best. Everything is homemade and super fresh. We started with the Fritta Mista, a medley of fried shrimp, calamari and artichoke hearts. It came with a garlic sauce that was unique and delicious. We also had a Caesar salad which they very graciously split for us. Even the croutons were special. Then we both had a veal dish. Since hubby ordered the Saltimbocca, which was my choice, i went with the usually pedestrian veal parm. Both were incredible, and very generous portions as well (I took half of the veal parm home). We drank an amazing super Tuscan wine recommended by our server. That was pricey, but worth it, and offset by the fact that the food prices here are more than fair. To top it off, they comped us a slice of killer Tiramisu with a candle in it. My husband said it was one of the best meals he's EVER had. We will be regulars! I'm only sorry we did not discover this place sooner (it's been here 19 years!!), and hesitant to share it because I want to be sure to get a table next time we go.
