Baja Cantina - Marina del Rey
The food is ok....but there are pests in the patio, exactly behind our shoulder (se saw at least 5 mouses).
Baja Cantina is my new go to for Mexican food when in Santa Monica, will always make it a point to eat there...
Food was great, décor was uniquely quaint and Friday night crowd was lively. It was a bit too loud to easily have a meaningful conversation with the other diners at the table.
Absolutely delicious!! Wonderful experience. The food was fresh and tasty!
Drinks excellent. Quesadedas excellent. Burrito too much rice and not enough meat - not good.
Only been to site 2 times. Will definitely continue to try other menu items.
Baja Cantina has unique entrees, which makes it a step above your run-of-the-mill Mexican restaurants. They have a selection of "Gourmet Enchiladas" for example, in addition to traditional style. I sampled the Tropical Mango Chicken Enchiladas, which were excellent. Lots of grilled white meat chicken and mango, without too much sauce that would cover up the flavor. It came with coconut rice which tasted so much better with this dish than the traditional style rice would have been. I was not impressed with the watermelon margarita, however - it was on the sour side. I will still return again to sample another dish and give a different margarita flavor a try.
I really didn’t care for the place or the food. We were seated in a small outside area when there were countless empty tables inside. My drink didn’t seem to have any alcohol. My food was flavorless seemed to come straight from the can. They charged a five dollar valet fee when they parked my car a few feet from the door. Our waiter was nice that’s the only positive. I won’t be back.
The waiter was horrible, he was very disinterested. We got a margarita and there was TOO much tequila, it was not really drinkable unless you wanted straight tequila. The food was alright, but the waiters attitude threw off the entire experience.
Just had a light meal and drinks with a friend and the place was perfect. Laid back, good service, nice ambiance.
Food was lovely but poor service.
Good food and drink. Had margaritas and relleno stuffed with lobster.
Carne Asada and Fajitas were delicious. Salsa has a great kick. Don’t recommend the booths with wood backs - straight up and down and not very comfortable. Patio seating is nice!
If I return, it would be because of the food, not the TERRIBLE service.
From out of town looking at colleges with my daughter and met my brother and 4 year old son who lives nearby here. Had a great time. Food and service was good, very kid friendly, and loved sitting out on patio. Darling interior as well.
My daughter and I are tourist and felt like Mexican for our 1 night stay. We lucked out as we really enjoyed our meal at Baja. The staff were friendly and attentive and the food was good. My only negative, which they could not help, was we ate outside and kept getting pelted by large seeds from the palm trees. Some landed in our drinks and in our food.
If you like Pina Colada's you have to try their Chi-Chi Colada, amazing! All the food was very fresh and good tasting. Really good salsa and home made guacamole. Fajitas and Enchilada sauce very good. Fresh chips as well. The front of the house is all bar and it is hoping. If you want a quieter dinner, you can sit in the tables inside and they are away from all the noise. We had a nice booth. Good service, good value.
Baja Cantina always delivers a consistent experience! Location is great and sit outdoors if you can...
Didn't bother to order after 3 drinks took over 20 minutes in a mostly empty restaurant. Margaritas were sub par at best. Usually much better experience here, sucked tonight. Server was very nice and polite, not his fault.
Fajitas always so good
Will come back
A decent place with friendly staff. Food was average.
Friendly service. Very tasty the mango's enchiladas. Right sale. If we will back to Venice Beach we will consider it again for dining!
Lovely meal, service excellent
We have made this restaurant our regular dinner location before we fly out of Lax. The food, service and ambiance is consistently good.
I have lived in the Marina and environs for better than 15 years. Have passed Baja Cantina literally hundreds of times, but my wife isn't a big fan of Mexican food, so we never it through the puerta. So this Father's Day, I decided to take advantage and chose BC for my Dad's Day Dinner. REALLY glad I did. The food was exceptional, the service was excellent and the margarita was top shelf. Literally. Everyone (including my 14 year old twins and my wife) enjoyed it. My only complaint is that the food was so good I definitely overate -- but we followed up our dinner with a stroll through the Venice Canals, which definitely helped. All in all, a wonderful meal and we will definitely be back.
$22 for a bland margarita? We think this is what shocked us the most. Strict hostess wouldn’t seat our party of 6 until they allllll arrived. Once we eventually got seated we were told happy hour just ended that minute and that they don’t offer happy hour where we were seated! Huh? Really? Done.
it's good. It's a place to go when you want your standard mexican fare. It's not bad but it isn't something that you would go across town to visit. Nothing wrong with that. To me it's a neighborhood restaurant that you visit time and time again and don't put much thought into it. Happy to go and happy to go back. Service can be hit or miss, I think our server was having a bad day, she didn't seem to want to be there. Happens, i'm sure next time it will be better.
One of the best Mexican restaurants anywhere. I’ve been a patron since the late 70’s and it’s still a great experience. And it’s just down the road from Venice Beach. How great is that?
Quaint setting, average food.
The restrooms were dirty and had zero toilet paper and towels!!
Service was spotty. Forgot to bring our chips and guacamole. Food excellent. Server said they were short staffed
Iove the location and atmosphere. Food is very mediocre. I had such a bland tostada salad.
I've been to this restaurant many times. My favorite dish is the Rosemary Chicken Enchiladas. They are delicious!!! Also, the churros are a must. They're fresh and are plated differently every time I have them.
The parking is a pain but your best bet is to pay for the convenience and valet. Will keep visiting until I have a reason not to.
Fast and friendly service. The best salsa ever! I love their chicken mole enchiladas!!!
We believe our credit card got hacked there and used the next day in 2 states
This place has been here for decades and I can see why: good, healthy Mexican food in a fun setting (next to the canal, with palm trees and other plants) with friendly servers. I had fish tacos which I loved and my friend had delicious tamales, always a special treat because they are so labor intensive! I will be back.
Best chips and salsa I’ve had in a long time. Good atmosphere. Decent Mexican with all the favorites
The menu i reviewed on Open Table was NOT the menu available at the restaurant. The prices were much much steeper. The second issue was the fly problem outside, flies were everywhere, hundreds of them which got annoying quick. Quesadillas were too wet but tasted ok otherwise. Server could not be found when i needed a check and I had to ask a bus boy. With all the food options in this neighborhood i would run the other way, the margaritas were classic out of a jug flavor as well.
Fun place to drink on Cinco but food & service is subpar.
Super Ambiente, Tisch im Freien, grosse Speisekarte, grosse Bier- und Tequila Auswahl, gute Weine und tolle Margaritas- was will man mehr
Can't go wrong with this fun restaurant. My husband always orders the fajitas because they are consistantly good. My shrimp tacos were a winner as well.
