8oz Lobster Tail with Potato du Jour and Seasonal Vegetable
Beautifully restored home from 1885. Was a pleasure to sit in a beautiful room next to the fireplace. Out of a number of food offerings, no bread available. High priced, poor quality and poor presentation. Server was very nice and tried but could not make up for high priced food that did not live up to it’s cost.
Fabulous setting and excellent food! Great bartending service (made wonderful mint julips!) and an obviously great chef, too.
Excellent duck. Great location.
Exceptional Sunday brunch. Great variety of food. Mimosas were good,
We came to Lake Geneva for the weekend to celebrate my sister’s 50th birthday. After reading the great reviews for the Baker House, specifically Sunday Brunch we chose it to close out the weekend before returning to home. It was an excellent choice! The atmosphere and food was just what we had hoped for. We were seated by the window with an awesome view of the lake. We will definitely be returning to the Baker house on our future visits to Lake Geneva! Nick, the chef/bar tender was very friendly and gave great historical information about the Baker House.
The service and ambiance is fantastic. The food is great although we didn’t care for the horseradish topping on the filet but it was still very good. The Baker House is beautiful and a must see!
Just not good food—lousy NY strip, blah potatoes, Caesar salad so drenched in dressing it was inedible. Noted it was a special anniversary and not even a mention. We won’t return.
We’re not seated until 20 minutes after reservation. Service was incredibly slow. Buffet food was cold and many items not refilled. Was told they closed at one o’clock and that was why things were low. However, had we been seated at the reservation time would have had an hour to eat our meal. I realize that staffing if difficult during Covid, however, what we pay for our meal has not been reduced. The meal was subpar.
Handicap door locked and inaccessible. Food was sparse, cold, and tasteless. Requested the music be turned down as we were under a speaker. Were told it couldn't be or it would go off.
The table "rocked" and a floor vent blew cold air on us. We were seated on the porch because they didn't clear an indoor table. Staffing shortage made for a delay in service.
Sunday brunch not worth the price. Service was spotty - good when requested by not readily available. Food was OK but not exceptionable.
Sunday champagne brunch was alright, not overwhelmingly great. Only drink selections were coffee, mimosa or oj, would have expected a bit more selection for a huge hotel and restaurant. Buffet style was alright, food was hot and many choices so that was good, however the make-to-order omelettes were wrong and way too big. Overall experience was okay like I said, but we won’t be back.
Amazing servers all around us we ended up with the young kid that didn't really know the menu items or give us the specials. Mediocre service at best. Band was playing that was cool.
This was our second time to the Baker House. We checked in at the hostesses and she advised us they don’t open until 5 and our reservation was at 5. It was 4:50 when arrived. We went into the bar…..The bartenders were having a loud discussion on who should do what. Should have been done away from customers. We were seated and the new waitress seemed like She wasn’t sure of the menu and drinks. She stated she has been there for three weeks. I ordered a beer and she thought it was a wine. My prime rib was tough and way smaller than our last visit and my potatoes were cold. My partners meal was good until he cut the stuffed chicken in half and it was raw int he middle. We notified the waitress and she had them cook it. But I sat and ate my meal alone. They did take his off the bill. But seeing as we were there when they first opened and only a couple of other tables seated was pretty sad. We will not be going back. I loved our first visit on Mother’s Day weekend 2021. But this last visit was horrible. 10/9/21.
Stellar experience in the Roulette room. It was not a gamble but all our numbers came in for sure; Service, food , privacy, experience!!
The restaurant was very quaint and had beautiful scenery. Unfortunately the service was terrible. I was understanding at first because they were short staffed but after a while waiting up to half an hour to even get a drink was annoying and that occurred with every course. Was not a good experience.
Our waiter was so accommodating, but the place was under staffed. Because we are vegetarians we ordered a combination of appetizers and sides. The soup was the last course served, which was a bit odd. Again, our waiter was sooooo nice and willing. He was mixing drinks, making salads, and answering our questions about a meat forward menu. Lots of work to do here, but so much potential.
The food was not very good and bland. Buffet did not get refilled quickly thus a lot of missing food.
Servers were sweet and attentive and atmosphere is amazing, but food was nothing special. Roast beef and mashed potatoes were yummy- every thing else mediocre but we had a nice time enjoying the beautiful surroundings.
Brunch food was lukewarm , tasteless and limited. Nothing like pictured on website
Hi Kathleen! Thank you for your recent visit to Baker House. I am sorry you did not enjoy your visit with us. Your feedback is always welcome, as we always strive to do better. We are making some changes to improve the food options, including the return of our made to order omelette and eggs benedict station. We hope you will give our Sunday Champagne Brunch another try. Please ask to speak to a manager upon arrival, so that we can make sure that your next visit is much better than your last.
Medium rare NY strip cooked medium well. Medium rare ribeye was ok. Tuxedo cake was ok for desert.
Awful experience. Terrible, overpriced food, together with slow service, and a dirty, dusty, dingey dining room.
This restaurant is suffering from the results of Covid in the lack of staff. Two servers were doing their best to ensure the customers were served. To alleviate this, they were not filling all tables. However, the food preparation was well below the standard we have experienced on previous visits. When someone is willing to pay market price for lobster, it should be prepared properly. My wife had a 10 oz. lobster that had a maximum of 60% tender and still moist. The remainder was hard and dry. My Chicken Caesar Salad was so lightly dressed it was difficult to find the dressing. All of the chicken was dry , overcooked and tough. After ordering a glass of wine, we waited between 10 and 15 minutes but our server was busy getting food out to other tables. I asked the bartender if he could tell me whether my wife's order had been filled or was still to be filled, He rudely replied that all the orders he had filled were gone from the serving window but he had others to fill and then turned away. I felt sorry for the wait staff having to put up with poorly prepared meals and a surely bartender.
We were seated and a hostess was Helping the only waitressed in the place. We had ordered our drinks and then it took one hour for the food to come. The shrimp appetizer they put something on it it was terrible didn’t even eat it. We had to ask for bread because we were starving before the meal came. He had ordered the salmon and fettuccine with a tomato cream sauce - They had olives in it and tasted like they poured the olive juice in there and it was terrible I could not even eat it. Then we had ordered the chicken with no sauce on it and it came out with sauce on so they had to remake it again. They always think it was the desert
I don’t think we will be back ever
In light of the issues we enjoyed our time at Baker House.Went for a birthday brunch. Made a 12:45 reservation and called ahead to ensure we wouldn't have an issue with low food at the buffet because I had seen previous comments. They did in fact run out of most food and offered us omelets. The staff did their best to make it a pleasant experience for us. It was an unfortunate situation for them too. Our party and the people at tables near us made the most of it and enjoyed the view and a few mimosas and bloody Mary's. We will go back.
$35 per person Sunday Brunch. No bacon/sausage, leathery chicken bow tie Alfredo pasta, HI express scrambled eggs, tasteless pastries, unbearably salty roast beef/wild rice dish. That was it. No carving station, no cooked to order eggs, no potatoes, no waffles, no fresh fruit, no eggs Benedict, etc. Horrible service…was seated and waited for 10 mins before we had to go and track down an employee to find our server. Server told us that buffet was “over there” pointing by tilting her head. No other instructions, offers, etc. Later overheard another server giving her table a lengthy run down of the buffet and about drink and omelette options. Horrific experience.
our server was very nice, but noticed the dishes were not properly washed,
and everything was a little dingy, the salad was wilted, and the steaks were over cooked, (we ordered medium) was not horrible, but we won't be returning soon...
We had a great time at The Baker House. It’s like stepping back in time. My husband and I both had the Prime Rib which was very good. Our waiter was super nice!
We had a reservation & was seated promptly. The server was very nice but not sure if that's her actual job because she proceeded to spill water all over the table & seemed out of sorts all night. The service is a bit slow so plan accordingly. I think they want you to experience a slower paced dinner service, which is amazing, except we had a tour to catch so we had to rush a bit. I ordered the Prime Rib which was a tad cold, but cooked perfectly. My daughter ordered the Duck & said it was good. I think the prices are fairly competitive so no surprise there. The cocktails were good, no skimping on the booze. The rolls and whipped garlic butter are divine.
Sunday brunch was fabulous experience! But very short of staff, who tried so hard to handle but long waits for service and empty food trays, delays getting replaced led to disappointment. Quite generous with the Mimosas! Overall I would still highly recommend, just pick early time for reservation. Staffing problems are just typical of the times.
Have been many times and usually LOVE Baker House!
This past Sunday, however it was evident that most likely due to Covid, everything was under par. The lovely bar was closed (Sunday 11:30 champagne brunch reservation, so maybe that is normal)… The Sunday brunch buffet was under stocked, the poor (though lovely) waitress was under available - no doubt the only one (we saw) serving! We waited too long for everything and heard other’s complaints as well. Presume Kitchen was under staffed as well… BUT again, we understand that these are difficult times to get staff to work!
SO, nonetheless we enjoyed our time and hope the next time will go better!
Great ambience with not par food and service. You can find a better breakfast option for the value in Lake Geneva.
Horrible we had to walk out it was so bad
This is an amazing place to have dinner! The service was 5 star!
Wonderful ambience, great service. I had the duck and I was still hungry afterwards. Rather small portion of meat and also potatoes. Otherwise I love the place.
Unfortunately they don’t have enough staff and they run out of food
Food was cold; menu was very limited; bathroom smell in the eating rooms
Worst time ever spent at the Baker House … never have we had such a bad time and couldn’t wait to finish our food and leave. I noted that we were celebrating my fiancé’s 60th birthday. The seating wasn’t too cozy especially after the hostess seated a couple with their kids in the game room by us. It was annoying to say the least. And not even a complimentary dessert for my love. Since the hostess had to be our server also, I feel that they must have been short staffed. The food wasn’t as good as we had in the past - his steak was very fatty and not worth the price.
This was such a disappointment especially since we come here often and have never been let down especially for a celebration. Not sure we will come back
