Birch River Grill – An American Kitchen
I always enjoy my meals at Birch River Grilll. Unfortunately the chicken was forgotten from my BRG mac and cheese which is creamy and delicious. My husband liked his club sandwich. The soups, fish and seafood are always good as is the reuben. The ambiance is nice and the restaurant is well-decorated. There is a bar and lounge area. It is adjacent to the Hilton property on Algonquin at Arlington Hts. Road.
Fabulous food and extremely professional service. They even made me fish tacos with chicken instead upon request. 😜
Bad experience overall started with nobody at the host stand. After 10 mins we got someone at the bar to seat us. Server was pleasant, but just an order taker. We were a transaction, not a table of guests to be taken care of. The food was at best bad. No seasoning. No care. Over cooked all around. Chicken. Steak. Salmon. All dry and subpar. Apparently there are no dessert options, as we were given our check without dessert being offered. Bottom line, we won’t be back.
We were first-time customers for Easter Brunch. Our server was fantastic... an middle-aged Hispanic woman. I don't remember her name. She was super sweet. The food was good -- omelettes and waffles particularly yummy! Lots of great choices! I wish there were more chocolate desserts. The donuts were a good idea. The Costco or Jewel little cupcakes, no so much. The rooms were decorated very nice, loved the Easter Bunny. The Bloody Marys were not great, not much alcohol, not spicy or anything special. Overall, a nice place for Easter Brunch!
Went there for my mom’s 75th Birthday since she prefers a quieter venue. We’ve been here before and had great food but this time it was so-so. My wife had the salmon which was over cooked and tasteless. My mother enjoyed the ribs. The table we sat @ was gouged in the middle of the table by something so I’m not sure why they even had it in service and we were only 1 of 2 parties there during the whole dinner. The service was good but overall it was overpriced for the portions served. Still giving it 4 stars overall because we appreciated our server who did a nice job even though the food was just ok.
Food was amazing. Service was great. Decor was a bit outdated but they said they’re getting ready to remodel so that’s a good sign. I was hoping to have they’re creme brûlée that appeared on their on line menu but they had creme brûlée cheesecake which was dried out. Prices were a bit steep, but overall quality of food was well presented.
Service is exceptional! Food was excellent. We had lunch, which was very quiet. Will definitely go back.
Food was good. I was not sure what to expect as this was a first time visit, but we will go back.
Good food, nice service.
A private party spilled over into the restaurant area yelling ,making wedding toasts so loud that we couldn't even hold a conversation. Our server was apologetic but no comps for the incontinence. Food was very good but i would not recommend. A very disappointing anniversary dinner!!
We went on Valentine's day. Sadly we were one of two couples there. Server was nice. Wouldn't get us a cocktail or dessert menu. Started with shrimp which was very good. Wife got ribs which she enjoyed. I got skirt steak. It has good flavor. To much sause on it. Desert had apples and a brownie thing. They were acceptable. Pass on margarita they were mainly mix.
Love Birch River, service is always outstanding! Food is too. The fireplace and large leather chairs are always a nice plus.
The restaurant is quiet and cozy. The food is great, and the service was outstanding.
We have been here before and will return again
Always greeted with a smile at the door. They take reservations. Comfortable seating with a warm atmosphere. Greeted promptly by a polite and knowledgeable server. Serving staff is neat and clean, attentive but not overbearing and they work as a team. the menu has a good variety with items containing a personal spin on the normal American Cuisine. The courses came out 'to temp' and were timed well and not rushing you or making you wait, and the server checked back to see if everything was to our liking. The food was excellent. It seems that all items are made fresh and not just frozen and microwaved. Kudos to the chefs for a fresh and flavorful use of ingredients. Juan was our server and did an exemplary job. It was also nice to see the manager doing table visit to make sure the overall experience was a great one. Lastly, the restaurant is very clean and neat. And yes, I am very detailed because I was in the restaurant sector and always take note out of habit. Our overall Thanksgiving was a great experience, and keeps us coming back. Great meal, great service and great experience. Thank you.
Second time around for Thanksgiving - Found this restaurant last year and really enjoyed the meal and choices. Therefore, had to come back for "seconds"
We used Open Table to find a restaurant that was serving breakfast later in the morning on Thanksgiving day. Birch River Grill popped up. When we arrived the restaurant was just closing down breakfast and moving to dinner .... the change made no difference to the service we received. Our outstanding service even included refilling drinks continually. The food itself was wonderful. And we couldn't believe just how reasonable the cost was for that quality of the food, service, and ambiance.
Open Table's recommendation was trustworthy and once again we appreciated the Open Table site.
I ate two meals at the Birch River Grill: dinner and lunch The spare ribs, squash and asparagus were a wonderful autumnal meal. I enjoyed the seared Ahi tuna sandwich for lunch. Both meals were well prepared and plated, there was ample food for the price. The bar and wait staff were attentive and professional. I recommend the restaurant.
What a nice restaurant! We got there early on a Saturday so we had the place to ourselves. Ambience was great, waitstaff attentive, and food ok. My burger was somewhat over cooked but everyone else loved their meal.
The food was great. The service was great as well. The prices were reasonable. Finally, it was quiet. Just right to have good conversations.
It was a Mother’s brunch that was very mediocre and ridiculously priced for the quality of food.
Took my mother-in-law there for Mothers day dinner Saturday 5/12/18. The place was not crowded. She said the Rueben sandwich was not that great. My husband ordered a flat iron steak for $25.00 and ordered it medium well. It cam WELL done. He sent it back & basically had to eat alone because by the time his food came me & my mother-in-law were just about done eating. My salmon was very good however my husband & mother in law were not please. They said they would never go back.
I was very disappointed in this place. The ambience was horrible and the service was even worse. Only one server taking care of half of the restaurant. Lastly, when we received the check they added a $50 service charge/tip for a party of 7. This was supposed to be an Easter Brunch for $39.95 per person. Surprised when the check totaled $361. Please note we ordered no alcohol only 2 ice teas, coffee and water.
I was there for Easter Brunch along with my son and my granddaughter. Everything started off on the right note with the waitress describing the buffet to us since it was our first time there. After taking our drink order the waitress said we could start on the buffet so off we went....and unfortunately she did too. When we came back to the table our drinks were there, we never saw the waitress again, actually we never saw anybody approach the table to see if everything was ok. After piling up our finished plates, a busser would swing by and grab the plates quickly never saying a word even after we'd say "thank you". Our water glasses were empty, never got a refill. We all wanted a second drink, including my granddaughter
(She was having oj) but again, nobody approached the table. We didn't have silverware to enjoy our dessert. We left it untouched at the table. At that point I was already upset, disappointed. I just wanted to pay and leave. I had to flag a man with a suit who helped us at the front desk when we arrived. Luckily for me he was sitting a party at a table nearby. When I asked him if I had to pay at the front desk he replied not very courteous.." you pay your waitress". Soon another server (male) brought the check , I left 10 % tip and got out of there. Seriously, at one point I wasn't going to leave anything. The price of the buffet was for the food then you leave gratuity for the service given. My table was forgotten and that might be the reason why my waitress didn't bring the check herself. She sent another person with the check. The food was good but after having a "no service experience" I left there with a sour taste in my mouth. I don't recommend this place and I'm never coming again. I regret having chosen this place over other places offering the easter brunch buffet in the area.
Birch River Grill – An American Kitchen was a pleasant surprise. I saw its Easter Brunch listed in the Daily Herald and we decided to try it for Saturday dinner.
The food was excellent. My Wife and I both had the apple flavored French onion soup. It was very good with the apple making the sweeter than normal.
I has a flank steak with mashed potatoes and green beans. It very good.
My Wife had a salmon which she liked very much.
The price was reasonable. We each had a drink, soup and an entree and the price prior to tip was $80.
Available entrees included short ribs and barbecue ribs.
It was not very crowed. It is attached to a Hilton Garden Inn. I hope more people go there so it can stay open. It is a very nice restaurant.
Food was absolutely delicious. The restaurant was not crowded at all. Large party going on in the other room.
Server was very nice & helpful. We will probably come back for Mother's Day brunch even though we do not live that close.
Birch River Grill was excellent! We were so impressed with the food that we've already been back! The staff was courteous and kind to all of us, even my kids. They even went so far as to split the dessert for us so it was easier to share. We highly recommend and will be back!
Just ok... however Open Table allowed for making a 4:30 reservation however it’s cllsed from 3 to 5. Bar is not even open. We had to sit in the lobby.
Celebrating one of my daughters birthday .
Server was great. Good proportion to cost , so-so. Had appetizers during happy hour & that was added value.
Quit place for conversation and good food. Great Chilli, Asian Salad ,Lamb Chops etc.
Had a group of 6 and was not told that there would be an automatic gratuity. Because it was Christmas we gave a very generous tip in cash to our waitress. Between the automatic tip and what we gave her in amounted to approximately 40% of bill. She never said anything. And we did not leave restaurant right away so she had plenty of time. So disappointing - especially because if she would have been honest and told us I would have told her to keep it. Sent an email to general manager and never received a response.
Went for Christmas dinner and food was outstanding. I like the quiet atmosphere.
Went for Thanksgiving ealy dinner. Food was tasty, servers were nice and good and the atmosphere was friendly. I would recommend it.
This is an absolutely fabulous restaurant! The ONLY caveat is you would want to go on Friday or Saturday because it is part of a Doubletree hotel. During the week, when we went there, it was quite busy. Friday and Saturday, it is usually very laided back and quiet. Food is fabulous, service is always good.
Worst Easter Brunch EVER! Food was burnt, or has been sitting out too long. Way over priced. Kinda ruined my holiday.
We were at Birch River Grill for Easter Brunch. This is our second year doing so. The first year was great. This year, not as nice. Coffee was old and cold. Even asked for another cup and the wait person never brought it. Smoked fish was not replenished the entire two hours we were there. All in all, just ok.
Did not expect a lot and the place was fairly empty but the food was great and the server was awesome.
Very bland tasting food. Wine selection very poor. Waiters and busboys were nice but dressed in jeans land looked like they were just stopping by for a few minutes to help out. The management is not interested in making this a successful restaurant. Never again and will tell my friends to stay away
Memorable service and not too noisy
This quaint place in the Hilton is hidden gem. Had the lamb chops and they were amazing. Service at the bar and the table excellent. Quiet on the weekends.....
My children and I enjoy the brunch buffet. Much variety, delicious food. Coffee was not great, but service was decent. Omelette station was a favorite, and desserts were fabulous!
