Always a good experience. We will be back
Black Salt has some of the best sea food in the city. Actually, probably the best. It is a well known neighborhood and city gem. The service is fantastic and the atmosphere is dynamic.
By far the best food in DC. The staff is very friendly too.
Great seafood restaurant that has great oysters to start with. I find the main courses to be generous too.
My favorite restaurant serving exceptionally fresh fish, with elegant, creative and sophisticated plates .
The bonus as well is a great happy hour.
Blacksalt never disappoints! We took friends for a birthday celebration and not only were the food and service exemplary as always, but our menus said Happy Birthday and she got a tiny cake with a candle to commemorate her occasion. And, our dietary needs were happily met with helpful ideas and a smiling countenance. I always recommend Blacksalt to everyone I know. Thanks as usual!
Terrible service. Long wait for food. Over an hour. Ran out of dish my husband ordered. Lots of apologies from staff, however, did not change the bad experience by then. Mgr. took a percentage off our bill. Nice gesture but an enjoyable evening would have been preferable.
Excellent food, attentive staff. Seems to be getting a bit pricey.
Great food! Friendly staff! Always a pleasure when we go there. Love the atmosphere and did I mention the food is phenomenal.
The oysters Rockefeller, Maryland rock fish, and burrata salad were amazing. As was the chocolate layer cake. Skip the baby octopus appetizer. The service was amazing and they treated us extra special on our anniversary!
Everything was very good. Had to sit in back room bc the front was just too noisy. Dishes ranged from VG to E
Price greatly exceeds value of food. Stew was moderate serving, 1 shrimp, 1 scallop, 1 v small piece of fish, 4 tiny muscles, 4 even tinier clams (less than inch wide), wonderful broth for $38.00. No sides. Very loud. Joey, waiter, was v attentive, nice. Not worth it!
Excellent, as always 😊
Amazing food and brilliant service!
Birthday celebrations at Blacksalt are the best, especially in the back quiet section. We brought our own wines which compliment the great food, and the sommelier was very attentive to our selection. Service was outstanding. We should’ve gotten the tower appetizer which was fabulous the last time we went. The calamari was average and the crab cakes had spine bits. I wish they would consider a fish stew or bouillabaisse!
Otherwise, still a favorite.
Overall great! I recommend it highly!
Oysters were the best as was the fried fish sandwich at lunch.
Amazing first time for Brunch! Had a great table to see into the kitchen and watch the magic happen. The highlights were the amazing pasties and breads created by the talented Chef Maddy. (Chocolate Scones, Beignets) One would expect no less from a chef that helped create the menu at a Michelin Star restaurant. (Burger was tasty. Great bun to patty ratio) Service was friendly and non obtrusive. Already made a date to be back with more people. Highly recommend.
We booked a reservation for 7 adults and one child for a birthday dinner. Great choice! Staff were very helpful with accommodating the baby, the noise level was low so it was easy for the older members of the party to hear the conversation, and the service made it feel quite special. It was perfect for a fancy-but-family-friendly gathering.
Loved the food at Black Salt - but was not thrilled at being put in a cavernous back room - not the kind of room I want to sit in if I pay for a hundred dollar a person type of meal.
Menu offered good options. Service was helpful and professional. We were seated in the attractive back room which was very quiet. Other areas were noisier as we walked through.
Great booth. Service allowed us to talk .. did not interrupt. Wonderful food.
Always a pleasant experience. Exceeds expectations with every visit. Favorite place in the city especially for special occasions. Leigh and Doug are amazing. Thanks for another spectacular night at Black Salt.
Great food and atmosphere as always!
Love Black Salt!
I’ve been here for lunch many times. I enjoy the express menu. This time I thought the fish tacos were too bland. The garden salad was ok but would add less variety and more greens.
Perfect service, wine, food!!
Anniversary dinner, excellent food and service.
I truly hate writing negative reviews. I understand how hard it is to run a restaurant, so unless things are really bad, I give mediocre service and good a pass. Last night I took my son and his friend to dinner at Black Salt. We had a reservation, were promptly seated in a good spot, and a busboy came by to fill water glasses. From there, everything went straight to hell. The waiter took a drink order, a few minutes later the drinks arrived and he disappeared. It took another 20 minutes or so for him to show his face and take our food order. He mentioned something about a big party at another table, as that were an excuse for ignoring our table for three, and with a decidedly dismissive attitude turned on his heels and one again disappeared.
The food was long in coming. We tried to get the attention of the Maitre'D, she stopped, said she would check, and we never heard from her again. I don't know if this haughtiness of the staff is taught by the manager, but it is beyond rude. The food finally arrived, the mussels were very small, the portions on the other dishes not at all generous, it was a poor value at best. The highlight of the evening was our water glasses were always topped off. The only courteous person working at the restaurant was the busboy. I've eaten at Black Salt several times. I never thought the service was great, this time it was abominable. On the way out, my son who has been dining there for a decade, talked to the Maitre'D - the one who ignored us, and told her about our evening there. She didn't respond at all. Amazing. Keep away from Black Salt.
If you like fish, this is a restaurant you absolutely have to try.
Every dish on the menu can be arranged to have it for appetizer or entrée.
Everything we tasted was delicious and well prepared. The wine list is very nice.
Staff is also really understanding your needs.
I just want to go back and have another dinner there.
Excellent evening to celebrate our family
We went for Restaurant Week, which was a very good deal for this restaurant. The staff was very good-natured and friendly, given what a challenge week this can be for restaurants.
The food was great! We went for restaurant week and it was a great time. Would definitely recommend.
The service was just okay. We were served the wrong meal and it took a while for someone to come back and change it. The mussels were tasteless and the experience was a little tainted because our meals were not served at the same time.
Great RW menu, loved our server and food was excellent.
Perfect in every way!
Delish! Very elegant and amazing flavors.
We went for the Restaurant Week brunch menu and weren't especially wowed. This place sources really good seafood, but the atmosphere felt really stilted and the food didn't seem to be worth the money for full price.
Had a great restaurant week experience at Blacksalt. It’s one of my favorite places. They accommodated a group of four and a baby. The food was excellent and great value, they also did a great job accommodating a serious allergy. The waiter was exactly the right amount of attentive. We had a great time and did not feel rushed.
