Blackwall Hitch - Alexandria
The server was very disengaged, he did not seem excited to be at work and it made for an awkward experience. We were there for a birthday celebration and honestly wished we celebrated somewhere else.
We had the best waiter, his name was Julian S., very nice hospitable guy from North Carolina. He made great suggestions/ pairings and made us feel very comfortable. Julian provided the best service and we’ll definitely be visiting again.
The drinks I had were just okay. Orange creamsicle didn't taste like I thought it would and the raspberry drink was pretty blah. Not worth the price for the taste or presentation. Also, don't add a straw to your drinks unless the customer asks for it. Save the turtles!
Good food, nice outdoor seating and excellent service!
I absolutely love your restaurant! I had called ahead to arrange for a nice table for a friend as it was her 55th birthday and we were provided with a nice table but it has a very sticky item on the table top and our waitress said the previous person had put her baby carrier up there! She covered it up with a napkin when it wasn't coming off. We did mention it to the manager on the way out as it was going to need to be scraped off. The server didn't seem to know anything about it being her birthday even though I had called it in but I was able to let her know so she did bring her out a piece of cake with a candle in it.
The food was excellent as usual!
I was sorry to see how dead the restaurant was at 12 and really hope it survives as it is my new favorite!
I'm a frequent flyer for Sunday brunch but my service on this visit was subpar (not the norm).
Great time for the third time! Food could be better, however. Compared to the local DC area, and its variety of options, the food here felt underwhelming. And that’s from the mouth of out-of-towners.
Service was good, salmon on Caesar Salad was over cooked and Nour tawdry at all, my wife had the watermelon salad and added lump crab which cost 15$ extra and was about two tablespoons of crab
Great atmosphere, excellent service. Good food, though overpriced.
The only good thing about this restaurant is it’s location. Nothing else.
The restaurant and food was great. The service from the waitress was subpar and all she had to give us was food
Food was good, as usual, but seating was questionable. Really out of character for Blackwall Hitch. Waited nearly 20 minutes, even though I had a reservation. Also, I made a reservation for 5, but was given a table for 4. When I asked that we have a table for 5 (as we’d reserved), the lady working the front of the house recommended instead that 3 people squeeze together on one side of the table that was clearly designed for only people. Also, our waiter wasn’t very attentive. There were long gaps between her visits. Tough to grab her attention when she walked by.
The entire visit was very different from our other (maybe a dozen or more) visits. I’m sure it was just an off day, but not so fun for the patron.
We’d like to hear music sets during Sunday’s brunch. Otherwise, the service, food & experience was great.
We were very disappointed this time with Blackwall Hitch. Our waitress took forever to get us our drinks, probably 20 minutes. Our waitress virtually disappeared. She ended up overcharging me for my meal but I was so irritated that I just left. $3 wasn’t worth waiting for the check fix. There was no one there and things just took so long to get to us. The prices have seemed to have gone up tremendously. I paid $15 more on top of $13 for friend green tomatoes for crab meat and it was about two tablespoons worth of crabmeat and it was tasteless . Won’t go back again. Rockfish was $32. A bit absurd when it’s caught locally.
Out of the restaurant at the waterfront, this is our favorite. We sat outside with a water view. Waiter had alot of energy, didn't bug us, anticipated when we might need him. Good food! Good wine! Great service!
My husband and I love this place. This is our go to spot and we always invite our friends along. The food and service are normally the best anyone could ask for but the last time we went, our waitress was not attentive and she was not as friendly as we are used to while there. I don’t remember her name but she was a red headed white woman.
Server was negligent, food was alright. Not a super impactful restaurant experience idk - wouldn’t actively recommend to a Friend
We made a reservation for 2 people for 3pm on a Sunday. We showed up on time, but the boy at the front desk would not seat us and kept saying brunch was over. We did not come for brunch and we had a reservation, so we were very confused. We kept getting the run around, until finally a waitress told us their kitchen was closed until 4 and we could sit and wait. No thank you! This is the second time I've had an issue at this restaurant. Last year I came and the people at the front were rude to my 83 year old mother. I complained to the manager and he apologized and sat us immediately, but now after strike 2, I'm not going to patronize this restaurant or recommend them ever again. We drove an HOUR to make our reservation, showed up on time, and were told the kitchen was closed. Oh, and I also got penalized as a no-show on Open Table by this restaurant after all this. I would not have written a review had I not received my email from Open Table that this was a no show. But since I had to write to them to dispute the no show, I figured I would take the time to write a review as well. Terrible service, go else where.
As always wonderful great atmosphere.
Food and ambiance were great. The jazz trio were amazing. Our waitress “Tina” was very attentive
Great food and service!
Had a reservation at 7:15pm and upon arrival was told it would be about a 30 minute wait and there were no tables outside, which I had requested. Evidently the reservation system was messed up and they were overbooked. Never an apology from the hostess; we would just have to wait.
We did end up waiting for an outside table which was pleasant. The food is over-priced and my dinner was cold by the time I got it.
Too noisy, inexperienced staff, food was just OK. Not what it used to be.
This place was really accommodating to my gluten allergy! It was a beautiful view from our table and the dessert was fantastic. Though they were very busy and our server didn't come for 30 min after we were seated and wasn't around much for the rest of our dinner. Overall, it was a nice place for a date night.
Lovely afternoon on the deck w delicious salads and wonderful service!
We visited during restaurant week, which I think was a good way to try the food at a cheaper price. The food was good but we also weren’t blown away. Thought the service could be improved slightly, it wasn’t bad, just slightly below average fir what we expected from a place like this.
The food was decent. Although fresh, it wasn’t really flavorful.
Had reservations, but took hostess 20min to seat us and it was not that busy.
Horrible service. Appetizer and dessert delicious. Entree was served room temp (when should have been hot). Ate two fork fulls and none of the rest. Despite beautiful view, skip this overpriced place.
The crab cakes were amazing. The mussels too. I was disappointed that they ran out of the truffle desserts on a Thursday and the server didn't know if they had decaf coffee! It's restaurant week in VA. The restaurant could be better prepared.
This place is our go-to choice because of its prime location in Alexandria and outdoor seating. Service and hospitality is ok, food is ok. Try the fried tomatoes as an appetizer.
Food was excellent! Jill our server was very personable, knowledgeable of the menu/drinks. We sat at a high top table in bar area. Highly recommend!
We had a very nice experience - the atmosphere, the food, and the service was all extremely enjoyable. We will definately be back
restaurant week- goodf food but waitress was horrible. Slow and it takes her 20 mins to refill water and get bread. No explanation no insight when food coming
As our server explained to us this building has a tin roof therefore the air conditioning just doesn't work on warm days. Despite this and the 97 degree weather a side door was continuously used as an additional entrance, sometimes with people propping the door open to let even more hot air in. Management eventually stopped this but the dining room was already extremely hot.
Would not recommend this place on very hot days.
Came here for restaurant week while visiting Alexandria. Food was amazing and loved the atmosphere!
The food was great and we were served quickly. My reason for only a "good" overall review is due to the fact we had a reservation, stating we would have our dog, and when we arrived it seemed like it was making them go out of their way because of the dog. From the reviews I read online, I thought we would be seated on the back patio, instead we were seated in the front and were the only ones out there.
Great music, great drinks! Good service. Would Recommend
Went for restaurant week. Menu looked amazing. Presentation of dishes were nice, but prices were very high for the portions received. Appetizer wasn’t full size. It was just a small taste. Ordered salmon as entree (very small portion and over cooked even tough the waitress asked if we were ok with it medium and we said yes). Ordered the surf and turf after the person seating us and the server told us the beef was Filet Mignon (tasted like sirloin). It couldn’t have been. Cooked PERFECT, but very, very tough. Dessert was a small bite of brownie, macaroon and paper wrapped miniature cheesecake. All of which looked like they could’ve been ordered from COSTCO. Very disappointed given each persons dish was $35.00. Definitely wasn’t worth it.
I’ve eaten at the location in Annapolis and had a good experience ordering off the main menu. Maybe the restaurant week menu was just a bad decision.
