Blue River good restaurant but open table did not forwarded the booking so when we arrived at 11.45am they had no record of it and did not open until 12.00 . Consequently we had a 45minute wait
The restaurant is clean and comfortable, with glorious views over the Thames. A good choice of food and very reasonable prices. Only slight problem was with staffing issues, but this was promptly sorted out by the manager.
The terrace and the garden were very dirty, used plates on the tables, napkins on the floor, cigarettes...
The staff was totally disorganised and doesnt care. Food was below average.
What a pity because the setting is really great on the Thames bank !
Although a fantastic location, it’s gone downhill over the last few years! I booked through open table, and they didn’t have a record of our booking and so we were lucky to get a table outside on the terrace as they hadn’t reserved it. Slow service.
Not very impressed. Will not rush back here.
They had no record of our booking, but as I had confirmation they put an extra table in, but this was adjacent to the music. We had two courses but no one came back to ask if we wanted any dessert or coffee.
We have been here a few times now mainly for the carvery which is always good,the service has always been very good,staff are just lovely,we had my daughters baby reveal party here and nothing was to much trouble,service/staff really good ,would recommend.
Food good, good choice on menu, service fair, décor appears very tired
We wasn't too hungry when we got there so we just had a starter. The service was great, had a lovely waitress looking after us and we didn't wait long for our food to arrive. It was very fresh and very very tasty. Will definitely be returning. Its a shame I'm working new years eve as the package they have for that night really looks amazing.
The service was very good - apart from my second glass of wine taking a while to arrive. Food very good and, with a Taste Card, very good value.
On our arrival, they didn't have a booking for us, only agreed to sort out a table when I showed the email confirmation I received from you.
They only had 2 waitresses for the whole restaurant and one bar person. There was a party happening as well, needless to say service was slow but the two waitress did a fantastic job. Drinks really over preiced. Food was outstanding much better the times we have been before.
Eating and looking out the Thames was really nice as well.

A lovely location, unfortunately staff were very poor. There seemed to be no one in charge. The bar staff were disorganised. No member of staff gave the impression that they wanted to be there.
Had to wait for the bill with no explanation.
Unfortunately we found the service very slow as we had to wait quite a considerable time to be served initially and between courses. On saying this the staff serving were extremely polite and we observed that the FEW staff serving were doing the best they could , considering the amount of customers in the restaurant. Also two of us ordered sorbet for dessert and when it arrived it had defrosted and not at all palatable very disappointing!!
Was not happy with this restaurant at all or OPENTABLE.CO.UK . We booked a table for four for 8.00pm on a Sunday Evening. We met at the bar and had a quite drink before going into the restaurant. It seems that our Booking for some reason had not been made with them. I showed them my email from OPENTABLE.CO.UK and the young girl had no idea we were coming. Then she says to us on the way to the table that all food orders have to be in the kitchen by 8.30 and it was 8.20 at the time. If I had booked my table for 8.30 as offered by OPENTABLE.CO.UK then we wouldn't have any chance of a meal. On top of that there were only two members of staff on duty. One in the bar and one in the restaurant and there were a large family with children. Who were running around the room making all sort of noise with nothing being said by the staff or the managers as they were not there. To get out of the noise we went to far end of the bar for a quite chat but the children were left to run all over the bar screaming and shouting. To a point where all our group were getting cross with the children as they wouldn't leave us alone at our table. We will not be going there again and I may not going with OPENTABLE.CO.UK as I feel let down by them too. If a menu changes for any reason let be a Sunday or what ever then it should to live on your Website. Or within the terms and conditions set out when a restaurant is advertised with OPENTABLE.CO.UK
My husband and I took my parents out for their birthday evening meal,we have not been for a couple if years,and couldn't believe how much it had changed in that time.Normally we go to Boulteds Lock for dinner but decided to come to you .The waiter was by himself and have us excellent service,the food I felt wasn't value for money expensive, there was no atmosphere.
It badly requires refurbishment , so for me and my family we,not be visitingbyou again, prime location more so than Boutlers Lock as it's situated on the busy A4 !
So however owns it please turn it around, we have enjoyed many a good time at your venue !
My son ordered a soft drink and was served alcohol. My Steak was tough and not cooked to specification. I also peered Jacket potato and was served mashed potato. The mash was lovely tho.
Booked online when we got to the restaurant they said they can't handle online reservations and said get a drink and wait in the bar. Waited 30 mins before asking them if our table was ready it was just about even though the restaurant had only 1 other occupied table! Staff did not have a clue what they were doing or any knowledge of the menu. Every time we wanted something we literally had to shout over for assistance!
The food was really good. The only thing that let it down was that the service was rather slow not good considering that the restaurant was quite quiet. Also (and this is quite common in restaurants in the YK), I had to order a glass of water more than once before it arrived.
Food great, restaurant great, lovely views but the service was soooooo slow. Waited over 15 minutes for drinks in the bar even though we were the only customers AND there was bar staff behind the bar. Very confused by Pimms and lemonade.
Four or five choices of food sold out, we made our choices then 10 minutes later was told one of those choices also not available.
Asked for tap water, it didn't appear. Asked again after 20 mins of waiting, then it arrived. Was charged 20p for this!
Food took forever to arrive and a side salad had been asked for arrived as side vegetables.
Asked for the bill without looking at dessert menus as we could bear the thought of another wait.
Food beautiful though, restaurant lovely and staff friendly but slow.
Quality of food is the main reason we would consider returning- it was a Monday night, I can't imagine why it was this slow. Hate to imagine how long we would wait on a Saturday night!

Awefull service. Had to constantlyapptoach waiting staff myself. Vegetables were roasted ok. Fatty meat carvery on a Sunday. Desert was frozen sale merangue with defrosted Compote. Not a patch on what it used to be. Even booked in advavance and they didn't have table confirmation so had to wait half an hour to put together a table for 7! There were two other parties dining at the time!
The menu on open table is not actually the menu offered. Food was frozen and still hard chips when arrived, fish over cooked. Not edible. Waitress collected uneaten plate. On way out manager asked if all was OK with food, we expressed the menus were not as advertised and food was awful. She offered us 20% discount and said she had never seen the menu on website. When we checked out next morning the discount had not been applied, very bad service I would not recommend.
Having booked a table on 'open table' for a special Easter Sunday lunch we was told limply by what I took to be the general manager & the duty manager that our booking had not been received and no tables were available but we was able to have a table in the bar area.
Not wanting to cause s fuss in front of the family this was accepted...
I expected a table in a restaurant, end up having a bar meal from the restaurant menu (with suitably inflated prices) ordering meals, drinks etc at the bar and no real apology from the managers... If this is the way 'blue river' is treating its customers, perhaps it really is time to turn it into flats...
In the past this was a good placecto eat but not on 120th Feb as hotel claimed not to have online reservation for a birthday lunch and offered excuse of phones out of action for some days. Smart phone confirmation so table found but drinks not arrived until near end of main course. Beef very tough but free glass of wine with carvery a bonus. Aproach littered with cigarette ends and floor very dirty. Chairs well worn and uncomfortable. The place is tired and neglected but doomed for closure as planning application for flats being considered. Even so, customers deserve a reasonable level of service. We have noticed a steady decline in service during our last three visits. The prime river location is currently lost by disappointing service. In response to feedback hotel denied not having the reservation so why, on arrival, did they give detailed explanation of phone lines etc.??? Mistakes do happen but they should be admitted and not denied. Hopefully, if the establishment survives, there will be a prompt return to the good standards of the past
Staff were very helpful and friendly.
Unfortunately, my husband's lasagne was dried up and hard. and he could not eat it.
We had to bring it to the attention of our waiter who was very apologetic. I put the blame with the chef/kitchen who should not have allowed it to be served.
Apart from that, all the staff were very attentive.
I ordered Philly cheese steak and got a bun with 4 gristly strips of steak. I sent it back.
To Be Fair The Manager seemed very disappointed and offered a complimentary dessert.
The drinks orders both at the beginning and end of the meal were wrong. The waitress cleared my friend's plate while I was still eating and, worse, asked her if she would like to see the dessert menu. She replied that she'd rather wait for me so we could have dessert together!!!!! My steak was served up on a rank wooden board - partly shredded so looked splintery and very stained. Very unhygienic. The steak was flopping over the edge so if I had poured my sauce over the steak, it would have run into my lap. However, as it turned out, there was so little sauce provided for the extra £3.00, this scenario wouldn't have been as bad as it could have been.
The prices are astronomical and are steadily rising as the quality of the food and the service are steadily declining.
I only go there now as I use a TasteCard which gives me a 50% discount but not even that discount can induce me to go there again.
Earlier this year, I was eating there with 2 friends and they told me that the offer was a 2 for 1. This was in fact untrue as it is 50% discount, therefore we overpaid.
Have been a loyal supporter for years but I would rather go elsewhere now. Reached my limits.
Lunch time meal with friends. Food and service acceptable but certainly not outstanding. Very few customers in the restaurant and the whole place lacked atmosphere
Fire alarm kept going off with no reassurance it was a false alarm and service was terrible, had to go to the bar to replenish drinks and food although good took forever to be served, spoilt the date :-(
We went to this restaurant for lunch today as it was the only one in the area still serving after 3 pm. We would have done better to go hungry!
On entry, the restaurant was empty except for a large table at the back. It smelled of school refectory and all the staff were having a good natter behind the scenes rather than seating us as we walked in.
We ordered a steak and a vegetarian option cauliflower and chickpea tortilla with creamy coleslaw, which sounded interestingly different.
When my partner was asked which sauce he would like with his steak, they charged him an additional £3, so he opted for the ribs instead.
When the food arrived, the admittedly fresh cauliflower sat in a bed of tinned chickpeas smothered in a "cook in" spicy sickly sweet sauce . The "creamy" coleslaw, was coleslaw smothered in salad cream. The tortilla was stale. How exciting this dish might have been, but it's disappointing execution echoed the shop bought equally sickly sweet bbq sauce on the ribs served with flabby pale chips.
An expensive experience to forget, added with a desolate beer garden overlooking a parking lot and red brick neighbouring building, the river is well concealed behind a highish wall.
The bill with half a pint of cider and an equal amount of beer was £37. I wish I'd given it to a good cause instead.
The service was almost non existent. When we arrived they had no record of my reservation !! although the food was pretty good we found the drinks excessively expensive i.e. 2 x pints of Amstel beer + 1 double Gin (Bombay Sapphire) + tonic £18+
Service and attention is very poor. I got the impression that they need more staff and the staff that were there were doing their best
Very nice venue by the river, especially to eat outside.

Well V was on duty & when she's there you just KNOW that things will run smoothly....& they did. The ribs are superb & very filling. A nice ambiance & a lovely view from the windows to the river. With 50% off Mon to Wed dining here is a no brainer. Long may it last
Staff was very friendly, even though place was busy. The food was well prepared and good quantity. Prices are acceptable, considering the nice location by the river. Overall really nice atmosphere. Will happily go again. Just missed the sea food paella, which seems to have been a part of the menu some time ago. Looked amazing on picture!
Lovely setting...great staff...but, although we didn't have a lot of food, what we did have (crab cakes and a side of chunky french fries) was absolutely bland and tasteless. To be honest, on top of that, the chips were only just cooked anyway. Very disappointing...considering it probably wouldn't be called a 'cheap eaterie...'!
The prices have risen astronomically and undeservedly. The puddings are still awful and my friend was delivered a lump of stale chocolate cake in custard masquerading as a chocolate brownie. Despite complaining and it being inedible, a refund was not offered. Nor was a refund offered previously when my steak was a lump of fat, when they got my order completely wrong, when my dinner was served completely cold. They are striving to be professional but are not quite there.
Waitress nice but I felt embarrassed with the menu taken friends after telling them how nice it is and got that menu angry to say the least unless it goes back to old menu I will not be back or recommending
Have eaten here a few times and always enjoyed the food from Thai chilli fish cakes to good steaks.
