Really enjoyed our "Curry Night" at the Bombay Lounge! The ambience is simple, but it's clean. Food was great, came in reasonable time and the service was friendly and quick on his feet.
The only issue was down to the inclement weather outside. It was very cold outside, and because people were leaving and coming regularly, the room went cold quickly. But it's more of a design fault of the premises rather than the restaurant's problem, so I wouldn't consider it a big deal. I will come back once the weather is better :)
Super food in a quiet venue. A hidden gem. Service was also great with a friendly and informative waitron. Recommended.
Very friendly and attentive staff, food was excellent and price was decent.
Food was delicious although just a little too spicy for me. The service was so friendly, really made us feel welcome. The decor is pretty and it was nice and cosy inside. It's just a pity that the restaurant was empty...took away slightly from the ambience. But definitely a place I'd recommend.
I ate here for dinner with a friend. The restaurant was quiet so there wasn't much atmosphere, but the food was amazing and the service was good. The total bill was really reasonable and I would definitely recommend eating here.
It is a small restaurant and a traditional 'British Indian' style, if you didn't know any better, the type you end up in after a night out drinking rather than a destination in its own right. We were really impressed, the food was delicious, everything from the popadoms and chutneys through to the mains. It was tradtional but without being heavy on the ghee and very tasty. The manager / owner was very welcoming and the service was faultless. All around us we would hear other dinners complimenting him on the food so it seemed consistently good. I would highly recommend and will definitely go back, it is a destination in it's own right!
small but nice restaurant. We had a vegan diner with us they accommodated as well as went the extra mile. Was surprised to see them except walk-in off large groups but shows how local area view them as well. Thank you again
I passed this place many times never giving it a though. I read some reviews so thought we'd give it a try. It was Ok the food was nice the waiter was charming and unassuming. the bill was reasonable.
It's a bit old fashioned and lacks a little ambiance but as I say it was OK. Worth a try an a night out, not a big occasion.
We made a reservation on our first day in London and were transported to India through the aromas, colors, and delectable flavors. Everything we ate was an experience in itself. Fragrant, visually appealing and delicious. From the starters, a mushroom and garlic appetizer and a shrimp curry in a homemade bread wrap which was spectacular. Then we had a chicken tikka masala and a lamb tikka masala, both outstanding. An aromatic and flavorful count rice with cashews was a perfect side and the naan was light, freshly made and perfect to pick up,the masala sauce. We enjoyed everything so much that we did not leave a single morsal behind. We finished with the best golub Jamon that I have had, again light fragrant and delicious. The owner was at the restaurant when we went and he was charming, and made us feel at home. We returned a second time a few days later and again had an incredible feast. This time we ordered the Tandoori chicken which was perfectly seasoned, seared and yet juicy. Again we were warmly greated and met more familia members the parents of the owner who where just as pleasant as their son. Our only complaint is that they don't have another location in New York. We will definitely let our friends know about Bombay Lounge and if we are in London again, we are definitely coming back.
We've been to Bombay Lounge twice in last month. Friendly owner, fast service, and really good food and a menu with all the classics you want! Our new neighbourhood first choice for a curry and more
Went with this restaurant based on the reviews on this site and I was not disappointed. My four friends and I were the only diners on a Tuesday night so we had the full attention of the staff and chef. The food was excellent and had great balance of spices, colour and texture. One friend's dish was incredibly hot despite being listed as mild. He didn't pipe up so didn't give the wonderful staff a chance to rectify the problem. I didn't notice his suffering as I was transfixed by the insanely tasty curry and keema naan I was devouring at a rapid rate. I'd definitely recommend this restaurant just don't be afraid to ask questions to ensure you get what you want.
My work colleague went came here before the cinema.
As a bit of a foodie myself - I thought for the price the food was pretty good, without excelling in any particular area.
The naan was very nicely cooked - not too thick & stodgy.
My kebab started was slightly too dry but otherwise fine.
I had a chicken jalfrezi for my main which was nice, with ample spice.
I think there are probably better Indian restaurants within a mile radius.
Extremely personal service, the owner is really warm and welcoming.
Food was delicious, very refined flavours. I had the chicken tandoori, my partner the cheeky duck. Both very very good!
Very good price as well and a wide variety of dishes.
Great food, great service, a hidden gem!
Went to Bombay Lounge in Islington as it was one of the few places open at 10pm on a Friday night in the area. Didn't expect too much, but was pleasantly surprised. Friendly staff, decent food and excellent value.
Lovely staff and great food - lots of different things on the menu. Will definately be back!
Dinner for 7 at the Bombay Lounge in Islington was overall not bad but the Murug Xacuti went down well. A few of the courses were bland and lacking in flavour. Service was a bit slow but otherwise very good. Came to £30 a person with some drinks which is good value.
Very good food and very good service. There were 10 of us at the meal and not a single complaint.
Amazing Food! Love this restaurant and keep going back for their great food and friendly staff. The traditional dishes are fantastic but also the chefs specials are worth a look. The house white is surprisingly good! Totally recommend!!
Bombay Lounge is a great restaurant, very friendly and helpful service.
Great food! Helpful and knowledgable waiter.
Went to Bombay Lounge as an after work crowd of 7, and was absolutely lovely. The service was great with a lovely warm welcome and food was carefully prepared and full of flavour. Came out after a little bit of a wait but was well worth it, and it showed it had been made fresh rather than some chain restaurant banging out dishes in 10 mins.. The bill came to £21 each with drinks all round which was excellent value, would highly reccomend!
Very friendly and attentive service. The restaurant were happy to prepare a vegetarian dish that was not on the menu. Would certainly visit again if I was in the area.
A really great local Indian! Food and service were excellent. We tried the chef's special chicken jall-masala with green chillies, bhindi bhaji and saag paneer. They also do a good lassi. Good value.
I returned to Bombay Lounge with a fussy friend (actually, we're both fussy) and had a super meal again. The service was attentive, speedy and just right. Will be back again (and again)...
Penton Street, just off Pentonville Road, is not the most salubrious of London addresses but the small Bombay Lounge is a gem. The welcome is warm and polite, the service good throughout and the range of dishes more than acceptable. It's a fine example of good Indian fare and very handy for Sadler's Wells.
I was looking for an indian restaurant close to St Pancras station and this is within 10 mins walk of Angel tube and St Pancras. Restaurant was easy to find and we were the only customers (it was early evening!). Service was good and menu has quite wide choice. However the recommendation for my main course was far too hot despite me saying I didn't want heat and would rather have taste. Rice and naan bread quite tasty and generous but overall curry was average. I got what I paid for basically.
Bombay Lounge, Islington
Excellent food and service as well as great value for money.
Bombay Lounge lived up to all expectations, starting with courteous service and finishing with a reasonable bill (and a fond farewell). The menu sported a good mix of 'traditionals' (if you're British, not Indian) and twists on the classics, and enabled a party of 4 to mix and match 4 starters and 4 mains. Desserts suffer from being bought in, and coffees are limited (no espresso). But the food is mostly delicious (one lamb very moist, the other dish a bit dry), ambience good. We'll be back..
Visited Shanti Lousiana, Leeds to sample the North American side of it.
Service excellent and the layout good. The food was good without being outstanding, but was value for money. The main disappointment was that the only draught American beer was off!! (OK it was only Budweiser but Stella just doesn't sound very American)
The two of us had a nice dinner in the Bombay Lounge. My chicken was a bit tough, however the flavour was great, the spinach and paneer side dish fantastic, and the waiter was lovely. He checked we had all we wanted and gave us a free dessert plus After Eight mints with the bill. I'll do anything for After Eights!
A disappointingly mediocre curry, and not nearly as good as many reviews here proclaimed. With the Angel Curry Centre and Rooburoo just round the corner from the Bombay Lounge so there is plenty of competition in the area. The mixed starters were a bit bland, the shank of lamb tough but tasty and the chicken tikka masala tangy.. so very much a mixed bag. Service was excellent though.
Very much enjoyed this restaurant - good food, reasonably priced.
Lovely little resturant! Really enjoyed our food and the staff were friendly and helpful.
Friendly service. Food reassuringly took time to come, suggesting fresh preparation. Duck dishes recommended. Good naan but avoid the coffee.
We enjoyed a tasty indian dinner at Bombay Lounge before go to the Sadlers Wells theatre which is a short walk away. The staff were very attentive, and the food arrived promptly but it is not the sort of restaurant where you could spend a whole evening as it is small. If you want a pre or post Theatre (or pub) dinner, then it is fine and the v reasonable price is a bonus. The menu offers all the usual indian fare, with the addition of some different dishes. I had crab and prawn biryani - yum!
We (2 of us) had two courses and an Irish coffee each at the Bombay Lounge, Angel, and the quality of the food and service was really good. And good value too, coming in at under £55 with wine. No problem with recommending it.
