Brown's Beach House - The Fairmont Orchid - Kohala Coast
What a perfect setting for dinner. Beautiful. Wait staff exceptional. Food excellent. Highly recommend.
We went for Valentine's Day. Our reservation was after sunset so we missed seeing that, sadly, but still it was beautiful! Very nice selection on the menu. The tempura Ago and Ribeye were scrumptious as was the duck fried rice, mud pie and Panna Cotta. They also had a four course set Valentine's menu and we were told by friends everything was out of this world. Out waiter was excellent and helpful and the poolside bar was a nice place to wait for our table. Highly recommend!

We had amazing dinner and experience. Only thing that surprised me was, for a $60 prime rib steak, it was small and not really cooked to medium rare. It was more medium. The bone marrow that came with it, recommend not having mustard seeds on it. Made it taste a very unpleasant sour when I typically enjoy eating bone marrow. But besides that everything was perfect!!! Would still go back to eat there again!

Beautiful outdoor restaurant right on the ocean. Our server Frank was exceptional and the Valentine's pre-fix dinner was excellent and good value. Would definitely recommend this place.

Valentine’s dinner in a beautiful beach setting with palm trees swaying, trade breeze blowing and live Hawaiian music sounds like a dream come true, right? That’s what I thought too but the Fairmont just does not do justice to this beautiful setting. We had high hopes but those were dashed by a waiter who rushed us by putting in our food order before our drink order and asking us if we’d like to see the dessert menu before we had finished our main course. Food arrived before wine. To top it off, the music was the worst we’ve ever heard at this resort after 25 visits. Food was good.
Aloha, thank you for taking the time to share your review and for dining at Brown's Beach House. We sincerely apologize that your experience fell below the usual standards and that you felt rushed during your time with us. We appreciate your feedback and will use this as a tool to improve on areas of opportunity, as we want to provide each of our guests with a 5-star experience. I will reach out to you privately in hopes we can discuss further. Mahalo - Marcel Mundel, Director, Food & Beverage
Phenomenal atmosphere right by the water. The lobster with risotto was beyond delicious

This place was outstanding. The food, the service, and the sunset ambiance was second to none. The food was some of the best we have had in our life, we chose the 3 course experience which gives you a couple of choices for each course and each was delicious and well presented.
I had prawns for starter and venison for main course. She had poke for starter and crab kampachi for main. Our dessert was banana cream pie. Again, all dishes were A+
The service was very helpful, respectful, and friendly. Mahalo!
There are some trees that do obscure the sunset over the water, but this did not detract from the majesty of it all, it was beautiful. The environment was relatively quiet and peaceful. There was live music, a man serenading the diners with gentle hawaiian folk music with his guitar the whole evening, he was fantastic as well. It is a very very romantic atmosphere if you are there with your special someone.
We were there celebrating my wife's birthday and dessert was on the house and they also came back at the end with an extra little happy birthday dessert plate that was a nice finish to the night.
The only drawback I can think of is that it is not cheap, the night cost us $250 dollars... but for both of us it was well worth it. In this case we got what we paid for and then some. Not just for the food, but for the whole experience. It is going to be a great memory that will last us the rest of our lives.

So if it rains, change your plans. We were all soaked on the short walk to get there and they wanted to put us in the edge of the room without walls to get rained on again. Food was luke warm, taste was good but temp was not impressive. I've never given a review like this but it definitely did not impress for the price

Amazing view-Service best on the island. Food was not the best but great preparation and presentation.

What a fabulous setting for a fantastic meal. We chose the 3 course price fixe. On the East Coast it would be double the price minimum. I had the venison which is something we can no longer get on the East Coast and probably the Midwest too. All 3 courses were delicious and beautifully served. It's a bit of a drive back and forth from Kona but we'll worth it.
Aloha, thank you for dining with us at Brown's Beach House! We very much enjoy hearing all that made your dining experience memorable and appreciate you taking the time to share your review. We hope you will join us again in the future! Warmest mahalo - Marcel Mundel, Director, Food & Beverage

Strong “head wind” and lower temperatures made dining a bit uncomfortable. Otherwise, great dining experience!

First off, I typically am a BIG fan of Fairmont resorts. This one is beautiful. Unfortunately, this experience did not live up to their standards. Due to rain, our 7:30 reservation wasn’t honoured until 8:15pm. On my husband’s birthday! I would have been fine if they had informed me, as I would have just arrived late or cancelled. The bread was delicious (could be that I was starving by then). Pork belly appetizer was poor. The meat was pretty fatty, which I know pork is, but I have had much better. Ahi tuna main was good 4/5. The white fist was ok, but nothing to write home about. At $50 a plate, this isn’t really acceptable. We didn’t have dessert (no birthday cake) because we were so full from the bread and nuts at the bar that we had waiting for 45 minutes to eat. So, we will have birthday cake a day late. On a positive, the valet Parker’s were exemplary. The wait staff also very good. They were put in a terrible position, having to seat everyone 30-45 minutes late. They made a 90 yo couple ahead of us wait 40 minutes as well! Shameful.
30 th Anniversary.. surprised us with an awesome specialty mud pie dessert! Great waitress , very attentive and personable!

Multiple reviews mentioned a vegan menu. I was informed curtly by our waiter that that was discontinued 2 years earlier. I was offered one menu item of pumpkin gnocchi and hold the egg. The waiter was curt and would disappear for 10 minutes at a time. The music and view was gorgeous, but the dinner was average and overpriced with limited menu items with no wiggle room if you care 1% about what is in your food. We will never be back. Just cancelled our other reservation on Feb 10.
Great setting. Food and service were very good. Best place we ate in Waikoloa.
We were looking for a nice place to eat. A few nights before we went to Tommy Bahamas and were rush through and had one of the worst experiences in dining. Everything about Browns was heads and shoulders better and the price difference was negligible.
The location was amazing, the service was top drawer, the food was prepared perfectly and the atmosphere was such a nice experience that I cannot imagine choosing anywhere else.
Thanks to the staff for a wonderful evening.
Everything was PERFECT!!!

The food and ambiance was great. Service was attentive and efficient. Much improved from previous visits (although that was years ago). Would recommend
Excellent ambiance - alfresco dining. Food is good. Service is excellent. A great place for a romantic dinner with live Hawaiian music in the background and great views of the ocean.
The setting here is definitely "vaut le voyage" -- and the restaurant is arranged to take best advantage of the beach and the view. While the menu is not dazzling, everything was very well prepared and presented. Happily, we were not rushed, or too frequently interrupted. Overall, a delightful evening!.
We are residents of the Big Island of Hawaii and enjoy eating at the resorts for the great sunset views and the live music while dining. Brown's used to be our favorite, but had a prolonged period where the food was mediocre. NO MORE -- IT'S FABULOUS!! The chef has changed and so has the menu. The clams were the best I have had in many, many years. The filet mignon, duck breast, gnocchi -- all fixed to perfection. Even the mud pie desert was different, but fantastic. Yes, it is pricey, but the value is there. Brown's is back to being fine dining at its best.
Dry fish, outrageously expensive. No seriously, I’ve had much better food from a taqueria for $10.
One of the better restaurants on the Big Island. Can't beat the ambiance - tables outside with great view of the sunset. Service is relaxed and attentive but not overbearing.
Food was a bit mixed. Had the $75 fixed price menu which is a good deal -- prawns were excellent, coffee venison was okay (sauce overwhelmed the venison), lilikoi cheesecake w/sorbet was tasty.
Wines are significantly marked up and the lower/middle tiers aren't well represented.
But it is a place to check out at least once.
Eaten here multiple times during multiple trips to Hawaii over the years. Is still one of the most beautiful dinner spots on the island. The food remains consistently good but not great. The biggest fall off in my opinion is with the staff. Not saying they don’t seem to try but it’s the professional level. If as a restaurant you want to change $40 to $60 for an entree then people expect a certain level of service to come with it. Simple things like your water glass filled without having to ask, bring the bread to the table while you are still eating the course it’s for not after your done. Clear dirty plates promptly. Nothing worse than at dirty plate piled up on a table long after you have finished the course. Before serving the next course make sure you replaced the bused silverware so when the food arrives your not sitting there with nothing to it it with and never come back to check. These maybe simple things but to many people when spending $300 for a dinner of two expect as a minimum.
We had eaten at Brown’s three years ago when staying at the Fairmont and liked it very much. This time, we had booked two nights there and cancelled the second reservation. The food was good but certainly not exceptional for the price. They also allow small children and at a nicer restaurant this can be extremely distracting when they are crying/ acting up. It was not quite the relaxing evening we had hoped for.
Loved our dinner here. Highly recommend the lobster risotto. Ann our server was on her game. 5 stars
What a disappointing end to our vacation. There was a corporate event being held on the Orchid grounds and the music was blasting at the same time live music was being played at Brown's. Really disappointed in the evening and this has been one of our favorite restaurants over the years. Felt jipped to not to be able to hear our conversation along with the competing music.
Fabulous time. Wonderful service, food and outdoor setting near the ocean.
Great table great service great food. Made our 35th anniversary very special. Thank you
Just about perfect in every way. Food Service and setting are terrific.
The dining experience was excellent all around.
Very special birthday dinner for my mother! Food was delicious and excellent service!!
A beautiful setting with excellent food and service. The Kampachi was moist and delicious. The music was a relaxing and enjoyable addition.
This was our third time at Brown’s and it did not disappoint. Service, food and the beautiful setting were all lovely!
Best dining experience of our trip.
Our server, Christian, made our meal a dining event.
Beautiful location and outside seating. Service was excellent. The portions on some dishes were small, but delicious.
