The service was great. Our server was very friendly and informative about the menu. The food was delicious as well, I definitely recommend the crab fried rice for the table. The ambience isn’t the same given the circumstances but the outdoor seating is still comfortable.
Food was really good.
When I made the reservation, I very specifically asked the host how nice the outdoor seating was because it was for our anniversary date. She said that it was either on the sidewalk or in their valet lane and I asked if the valet lane was nice and she said that she thought it was and that they had it very clearly fenced off as being their seating area. Well, at least we weren’t seated in the valet lane – which is exactly what it sounds like – dining in the street with loud cars rushing past. We have seen some restaurants do parking lot or sidewalk or street dining and they made it semi-attractive. It seems like Buddakan is making no effort to make their outdoor seating charming or pleasant. The valet lane especially needs to be spruced up with some planters, charming lighting, something. Additionally, you have countless DoorDash drivers and take out customers constantly walking up in all states of dress or undress. Obviously, the restaurant cannot control that and I’m happy for them that they are doing a brisk takeout business, but I think that diners should know what they are getting into. It is not remotely the dining experience that you usually expect from Buddakan. What I keep coming back to is that they need to invest some money in making the outdoor seating more attractive and pleasant. It’s not a diner or a waffle house inside – it’s a beautiful, award-winning restaurant – and when you take that away, and are left with just the food and (albeit very good) service, you have a very disappointing experience.
The food and service was great. It was a little hot outside and a few pesky flies. Otherwise it was great.
Wonderful birthday dinner for my son. Food & service was fabulous
Always amazing food!! This time we weren’t happy with our server. No personality. Very dry humor, too serious. Made for an awkward experience.
Wonderful experience! We had a wonderful dinner. Our server was amazing and the food was exceptional.
Always enjoy myself when I visit buddakan but i think it’s a little overpriced. The fire edamame and lamb chops are my FAVORITE.
Another awesome experience. Great food, service and location.
Amazing food ! Service was excelent as well ! No complaints what so ever !
Great experience from start to finish. The waitress was very attentive and gave awesome recommendations!
the food and service were very good, it is very loud there though.
We enjoyed our dinner so much and our waiter Mike was awesome. The appetizers, entrees, and dim sum donuts were delicious. We will definitely be back!
Our waiter, Craig, was fantastic! Super knowledgeable and fun and friendly. We will be back again soon.
Fantastic food and service. Would go again and recommend to anyone!
We booked online and I included a note about my wife's garlic intolerance. On arrival the staff showed us to our table and handed her a garlic-free menu! That's never happened before. Needless to say we were impressed.
Buddakan has a large tabled area, plus a very nice bar at one end of the space. The chic decor and subtle lighting and furnishings all help to create a very friendly and relaxed ambience, which is perfect for sharing a special meal or drinks with friends or loved ones.
We were very pleased to have such a knowledgeable and helpful waiter who guided us through the menu, which offered an excellent choice.
We had cocktails with our starters while still trying to make our minds up about the wine.
The wine list was extensive, with fine wines from the US, plus some superb options from the major wine-growing countries around the world. We plumped for a very nice US pinot. It was light enough to go with my sea bass and my wife's cashew chicken.
After the mains, I plumped for the trio of sorbets and my wife went for her favourite: crème brûlée. In the 35 years or so we've been together she's tried crème brûlées in dozens of restaurants around the world. She's quite particular about how she likes them to be made and tells me she they have been somewhere near perfect on only three occasions. So she was very excited to tell the waiter and manager that Buddakan was one of those three occasions. The manager was so excited that she asked us to wait for a few minutes after our meal and she brought us another crème brûlée to take away with us! That was so kind of her and we really appreciated it.
Now, Buddakan isn't a run-of-the-mill eatery. It's certainly up there in price – we paid more than $250 US - for our 3-course meal, a number of cocktails and our wine. But it was so worth it. We can't recommend Buddakan enough and look forward to taking other family members there when we next return to Philly, hopefully in the not-too-distant future.
Excellent service, ambiance and the food exquisite... not too expensive
Our waiter Mark was excellent great suggestions
