Cafe Gia Ristorante
Tender octopus serverd with a chick pea, caper, and red onion salad with lemon olive oil
Veal scaloppini layered with prosciutto, mozzarella cheese and sage, finished in a demiglaze and served with Italian potatoes and the vegetable of the day
Grilled sea-bass served over pesto risotto finished with a luscious lobster bisque
Great family owned and managed restaurant. Delicious home-made Italian food, and great service and great prices.
This favorite of ours never disappoints! It’s a casual vibe but sophisticated menu and ambiance. Murals splashed on every wall and table, so unique snd warm! The menu is comprised of Sicilian dishes and a few dishes from the northern region. Octopus-outstanding! Homemade lasagna bolognese (made the real way!)-outstanding! Osso Buco milanese-superb! Brannzio-delicious!
Save room for Nonna’s homemade Sicilian cannoli-best we’ve ever had. And oh that house made limoncello 😋
A very nice experience at Cafe Gia. Outstanding food and very friendly, prompt service!
Perfect! Food, ambiance, staff, everything. I can’t wait to go back one day. Best find in Little Italy...
I've only been to Cafe Gia twice, but it's been outstanding both times in terms of service and food. I called them and they didn't answer and 20 minutes later they called me back! The food is legit, very tasty and fresh. Our waiter was very polite and competent. It's supposed to have a sicilian flare. The inside is beautiful. We all loved what we got and the creme brulee was so good for dessert. The food is fresh and seems homemade to me. I'm picky and rarely eat out because nothing is good enough for me to spend my money on. But I will be back to Cafe Gia. Once COVID ends I hope to enjoy the terrace up top.
This family is a family run little restaurant in the heart of Baltimore's "Little Italy." The staff is very welcoming and it's a treat to meet Nonna. That's the good part This old restaurant is also tired, outdated and perhaps burnt out.
We sat on the roof top patio, tented for the Spring weather and the pandemic. It was a great location for sidewalk people watching. We were served water almost immediately and greeted by our server. Table was sticky, menues were old and grimey, glasses were scratched, spotted and outright dirty. Sorry, COVID has freaked my out a bit.
Ordered a Panzanilla salad to share, a personal favorite. It was a sizeable plate of icy cold lettuce topped with sugary "caramelized" onions that had been blackened to the point of bitterness. The bread that's usually lightly toasted yet puffy enough to soak up a wonderful vinaigrette, was instead a few shards of deep fried crumb sprinkled on top. There were a few chunks of cheese and no descernable dressing. Pass.
Next: veal francaise with a requested pasta side with marinara. It arrived plated with garlicky green beans and huge wedges of precooked potato that again had been plunged into the deep fry. Both these were just barely warm. The veal was flour coated and seared witihout seasoning. No lemon sauce whatsoever and cold in the center. Pasta was terrible. Husband ordered pasta with clams and sausage. Again, barely warm and completely tasteless. No seasoning, no parsley, nothing but a few clams, some knobs of gray sausage and white pasta. Bread was fresh but cold and butter was ice hard.
Cappuccinos were small and also barely warm. Sambucca sides were both very small pours in very dirty glasses. We passed on both.
The overall menu looks to be stuck in the 80's. Nothing was prepared well or served at an acceptible temperature. Sad for a Friday night, when the 25% restriction had just been lifted. We don't recommend this place at all.
The food was authentic Italian cuisine prepared by Authentic Italian cooks. The family has been in little Italy since I was a child. Home cooking at its best. No ragu here. 😋
Family run restaurant was a great experience. Enjoyed talking to the staff(family) about the history of the place.
Food was excellent and priced right.
We ate on Friday around 630pm. Our party of 5 was seated as soon as we arrived. The place is really funky the painted tables are unique. Our server Mark was very attentive and explained the menu. The food was outstanding we had the seafood fritta the calamari was tender and crispy. Baked brie special was excellent. Dinner choices ranged from salmon chicken coletta and lasagna we also had a side of mom's special meatballs the entrees all were excellent and meatballs outstanding. We would highly recommend Gia and we will definitely be back.
I had the special that night. Amazing. My wife wish she had ordered it as well.
Nice corner restaurant in Little Italy. First time out after pandemic restrictions and it was lovely. Nice waiter and Gia, but it was a little slow I'm sure because of just re-opening for indoor dining. The menu was unique and the food delicious. We will definitely go again.
The only thing preventing all 5’s was the staff not wearing masks.
Another lovely birthday celebration with food like what my husband's Italian grandmother made.
Cafè Gia is what brings us to Baltimore. The neighborhood, family-run restaurant always delivers consistently quality dining. Great food, solid service, and local vibes. Order the meatballs!
This is the best Italian restaurant I have visited in a long time. We will definitely return. I had the Ricotta Gnocchi with Shrimp and my fiance had the Meatballs, both were amazing.
Excellent food, service and atmosphere!
I came down from NY to visit my daughter at Loyola. Not only was the restaurant, beautiful, food was great, service was spot on and owners and staff were extremely friendly. SKinda like eating with family. Highly recommend. (This was during covid limited seating. Please support them and all local businesses. We need to reopen! They're sticking it out for us, they need our help!)
Very good food, including grilled octopus, osso bucco and rice balls.
Phenomenal food and service. The server was kind and helpful, and everything we ordered was delicious, from appetizers to homemade pasta to an incredible seafood special. We ordered dessert to go, and at it at home - it was so wonderful, we were glad we didn't pass it up. When our bill came, I was shocked at how affordable all we had ordered ended up being. This pleasant surprise ended a perfect evening at Gia.
Dined out with my husband for a post Valentine celebration and let me tell you, the food was amazing! It wasn’t too crowded when we were there (that’s a plus!) and all the tables were spaced for social distancing. The staff was very professional and guided us through the menu perfectly. We feasted on grilled octopus and sausage and polenta as starters and Bass risotto and osso buco as our mains. For dessert, we passed on traditional sweets and opted for their house made Limoncello (best we’ve ever had!). Cafe Gia isn’t a fine dining restaurant with table cloths but a casual, friendly trattoria type eatery where you’ll feel like you’re in Italy!
The food was to DIE for!!! Beautiful atmosphere, friendly servers. They lose a star on service because the hostess/owner? wasn't wearing a mask at any point during our time there. Other than that, fantastic.
We love Cafe Gia and go there frequently. It is a gem of a spot in Little Italy, run by a mother/daughter duo. The food is always so good—try the lasagna and the veal. It makes me feel like I’m in my grandmother’s kitchen.
We were greeted at the door to this lovely restaurant. We were promptly seated on the balcony that overlooked the street. The service was very good and the food was fantastic. Would definitely go again!
It was too crowded during COVID, pasta gamberi was a bit bland, room overly bright, a candle on the table would be nice.
The handmade pasta here is always outstanding. Their outdoor dining is cozy and warm even in the cold. Highly recommend.
There's nothing special about this restaurant. Zero ambiance. Windows were open just a crack, likely to take advantage of the cool air and not have to run the a/c. There was an extension cord running from an outlet in the upstairs dining room through a window. The waitstaff was not uniformed and shabbily dressed at that. It was like eating at a run down Denny's.
From pasta to veal, everyone’s dish was exquisite. Waiter Mark was outstanding.
The food was wonderful as usual and so happy to be able to patronize one of our favorite restaurants in downtown Baltimore. However, due to Covid, the whole vibe is a bit deflating. Cafe Gia's was set up very socially distanced, just wish it felt like the ol' days - where things were vibrant and bustling. My heart goes out to all of the restaurants trying to sustain their business these days.
Excellent service, wonderful food, and a lovely atmosphere. We sat outside.
Great food, cute place!
Warm and friendly restaurant with excellent food and service.
We celebrated our anniversary at Gia's. The food was impeccable and I look forward to many more meals there.
Highly recommend. Enjoyed our evening. Staff was friendly. Food was very good.
Always welcomed like family at Cafe Gia and always leave with smiles and full bellies.
Especially impressed with your flexibility in these hard and trying time. Thank you again
We went for our one year wedding anniversary and it was delicious!
The balcony was lively but safely distanced. We had the octopus and prosciutto pizza apps which were delicious and the sea bass, veal saltimbocca and clams pasta which were all fantastic! Be sure to try the house made cello sampler, hit the spot after an amazing dinner!
The food is always fresh and delicious. Atmosphere is cool and low key. Love all the decor. Our waitress was slow in responding at times. I highly recommend Gia's and would return again!
Good food and value
A beautiful little gem in Baltimore's Little Italy! This restaurant was quaint, the staff was attentive and kind. Our drinks and food were delicious - we started with the Arancini - there were 4 of us dining and only 3 were served - we shared but it would have been nice to receive an even number or enough for all! All of our dishes were delicious, though a bit oversalted. We are already planning our next visit!
