We chose Callahans for a special birthday dinner and checked the online menu as well as the menu here. We were Very disappointed that the menu was actually less than half of what was online. There were No small plates or appetizers. Also, several of the main items that were on their online menu were not on the menu at the restaurant. There was no rib eye steak, no North West Salmon, no meatloaf, no Risotto, No prime rib dinner. There was a total of about 15 items on the menu which included salads and sandwiches. We understand pairing down the menu during this crazy time. What we are so disappointed about is the fact that we checked the menu ahead of time and none of the things we were looking forward to were on the menu at all. They need to update their online menus because if people are going to make the drive to their restaurant, they should get a choice of the items advertised.
Just not anywhere close to what it used to be years ago.
Service was very slow. It took over an hour and a half to get brunch.

I made a reservation a month ago for Mother’s Day on open table. We called a week ago to check the reservation was good and they were still serving due to covid restrictions and was told we were fine. We called again this morning to let them know we would be about 10 mins late and was told it was fine and that they had our reservation.
When we got there they sat us in an awkward side room. I asked to be in the main dining room and was told they had no room in there and that that area was for reservations. I said we had a reservation and the worker told me we had cancelled and showed me the paper where they had crossed out our name. I told them we called this morning and they shrugged and said nothing. Checked open table and the reservation still was active there. I mentioned that there were about 20 tables open (see the photo) and they refused to move us, despite it being not our fault. Our server was great and the food was alright but I won’t be back. Was planning a wedding and a reunion, but have removed this place as an option.
Not worth going to a place where there is no customer service and they aren’t willing to right a wrong. Food isn’t good enough to warrant the hassle.
We stayed two nights for our Anniversary. Love how cozy the room was with the fire place and jacuzzi tub. Dinner and drinks were great as well as the live music! We can’t wait to g back!
It’s changed over the years, or collective response of four diners were Meh. Not going back. The hotel service was pretty much non existent. Except for our bartender Mike and waitress Taylor, who were very nice, the staff seemed bothered to be asked questions. Celebrating our 35th anniversary, I asked three times for a” romance package “ never arrived, never apologized, left disappointed overall. No need to return.
We visit regularly and enjoy our stay. Our DVD player did not work and the blinds were stuck. Luckily they had another room available.
it was a little overpriced (i.e. $13 for a cocktail) We had fish and chips and a winter salad-overall it was very good tasting
I’ve always loved eating at Callahans but was disappointed that there was no Brunch being served when my guest and I chose to eat there because you advertised Sunday Brunch.
Prime Rib was ordered med rare and served well done. Bartenders did not know how to make basic cocktails. Resolved easily. Room was excellent. Would definitely stay again.
Took a really, really long time to get our food. Then a really long time to get our check.
Great service. Excellent menu and food was top notch. Rack of lamb was delicious and not offered at most other restaurants!
Don't bother with breakfast here. No specials on Easter, eggs were cooked hard when we asked for easy, hash browns tasted like they had cinnamon sprinkled in them, no choice of bread for the toast just straight Wonder white bread and sausage patties while tasty were hard and a bit overcooked. Don't waste your time, take the time to drive up the road to Medford and go to Ihop or even better Punky's Diner.
Such a very limited menu and slow service. The server was very nice but not attentive and spent most of her time in the bar area. The food (pasta & chicken was very basic and not worth what we paid. Love the place but that was the worst time we ever had there.
Service was terrible. Luckily the food made up for it when we finally got our order

Environment was great. Music was too loud. Menu is very limited compared to the legacy menu that has existed for the last 40 years. Food was ok. Was convinced to order the prime rib vs the beef stroganoff because we were told the beef stroganoff uses prime rib that is overcooked and is at the end of the prime rib. So ordered the prime rib medium rare and was served an end cut well done. Upon inquiry I asked why it was not medium rare and was told the end cut was all that was left. Wish I would have known. Sure does not have the historic meals with the veal and mushrooms of the past. Look forward to returning in the future when I hear improvements are made. Just a beautiful setting and nice dining room, but owners need to be more hands on to make sure they deliver the quality of the past and make the necessary improvements for dining that this wonderful restaurant has previously provided. Just disappointed with this visit.
The food was very good, but the service left A LOT to be desired. At around $28-$38 an entree one would expect a salad and maybe even a bread basket would be served with the meal. Nope! That’s extra. It was very busy for only 2 servers and one bartender. Maybe 3 servers would be better on a completely booked weekend? Regardless, at the prices per meal one would expect a bit more professionalism from staff. Our server was visibly overwhelmed and flustered, serving one of our cocktails incorrectly. She did offer a complimentary second beverage for the mistake. Her co-server seemed completely carefree spending the better part of 15-20 minutes flirting with a table of 6 men while her other tables grew visibly impatient. Takeaway? The music was good and the creme brulee was to die for! I would return, but I strongly encourage management to make some improvements where guest service is concerned.
Birthday dinner , very nice
My wife and I celebrated our 22 Anniversary there. We absolutely loved THE TENT, it was warm and cozy. Our server was attentive to our needs, checked in often and brought us everything we needed. The musician playing that night was pretty good. We had not been out to eat since the beginning of COVID, so it was such a treat. I have had prime rib a couple times in my life, but this night the prime rib was off the chart. I asked for extra vegetables and they filled my plate. Your side salad, at $5 is a good price, but not for the amount of lettuce on the plate. That was the only issue I had, and considering we had not been out in a year, I will say it was an amazing evening. Thank you Callahans staff for making our night memorable, when it was probably just a typical night for you all.
We were set at a table of two, and there were two other tables seated simultaneously. The restaurant only had three tables that had customers. One waitress continue to talk for 20 minutes with a table that two young men were seated.
I would recommend Callahans restaurant if you were not in a hurry.
I made our Valentine's dinner reservation month in advance. My husband and I love the prime rib.
After we were seated it took a long time for our server to even acknowledge us. She finally did come around and take our order but it was obvious she was having a bad night. She barely looked at us or offered any kind of help with the menu. she quickly jotted down our order and rushed off again. It became apparent why she had a bad attitude, apparently she and the bartender were in the middle of a fight because he made our drinks and they sat on the bar 5-6 minutes while they argued. AND the drinks were the wrong flavor.
Took forever to get our bill and boxes.
It actually turned into a joke between us and the couple at the next table because they were just as frustrated.
Server was short, small girl with black hair in bun.
Paid good money and I feel cheated.
Good overall the server was stressed. The food wasn’t hot when served.
We had an excellent time at Callahan's! This was our first time there and were so happy to enjoy a fantastic ambience with fireplaces ablaze, live music, attentive servers and delicious food. Such a treat. We are already looking forward to our next visit.
Excellent night out with my girlfriends at Callahans. The drinks were wonderful, food was excellent, and our server Taylor was just fantastic. We will definitely be going back!

The food took almost and hour to get after we ordered. It was like warm at best. The music was harder rock??? Certainly not appropriate for a fine Dining experience

It was a great outdoor dining experience, very socially/physically distanced seating. It was great to be able to make reservations and not wait in a crowd. Will go back next time I'm in the Rogue Valley.
As they are being forced to seat people in an outdoor heated tent to comply with our stupid governor's unconstitutional rules, it is a bit loud with the heaters blasting. The food and service were certainly as expected and it was still enjoyable.
I don't typically write reviews, but this one I felt the need to. My wife and I try our best to frequent the lodge during winter, our anniversary falls right close to the holiday. Previous years have been excellent and each year we have high expectations, up until this year. I get it, times are crazy right now, this industry is getting hit hard and we try to support local business as much as possible. Regardless, I think folks should know what to expect. We show up, front desk rep isn't wearing a mask and seems pretty distracted. No big deal, except the mask really...Next, I know we should've known this, but no dining in the restaurant, which is a big pull, but they have an outdoor tent set up. We tried this out for about 15 minutes in the pretty freezing cold with no attention from the wait staff, then we made the decision to move in for room service. I'm assuming given the circumstances, their running a skeleton crew, which is working hard, but stretched too thin to keep up.
So we move to the room next, which upon check in was well under 60 degrees, so we'll build a fire...typically the room is well equipped with kindling and a lighter. No kindling, lighter is too low on fuel and we used one from our truck, then used any and all paper in the room to get a fire started (toilet paper too). Front desk said they were looking but nothing ever made it to us.
Now for the food. We order entrees, a pitcher of beer and a double of Jameson. Fire is going, food is on the way. Phone call from the wait staff. "we don't have that whiskey, we do have Pendleton though", Perfect, bring me that. Food shows up, "Sorry we didnt have Pendleton, so I got you a double of makers mark instead ,only charged for a single, appreciate that. Ok, that works, moving on...Food is ok, except for the potatoes, which had been sitting for a while. I'm running out of characters to review further, and there is more :)but needless to say for close to $300 a night?? Not a good look. Maybe next time.
An excellent menu with many unusual choices. The two different brunch dishes we chose were very tasty. Once the fire was going in the fireplace the ambience was warm and friendly. We will definitely go back for brunch!
Callahan’s has such a primo setting with a beautiful view and outdoor setting. That’s the only reason we keep going back. The food is really subpar and has been for the past couple of years we’ve gone there for lunch. This last visit was for breakfast/brunch and no one at our table had a good meal. Callahan’s needs to stick with the basics and improve the quality. No need for fancy dishes in this rustic, outdoor setting. Menu items like a burger, not a fancy one but a good one, a couple of sandwich options and a couple of seasonal salads. As for brunch/breakfast, how about just doing a good job with the basics, eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, etc.
We love the setting and want to see the new owners make a success of the business so hope this critique is helpful.
Great food (we all had Duck Hash), beautiful outdoor seating ambience, nice wait staff & affordable! Perfect place to celebrate a Birthday!

Amazing food. Everything was really top notch.
Service was slow and a bit lacking. Water for tea was never refilled. Ice water was filled only once, it was a hot day.

The setting is beautiful. The music was amazing. The service was slow. We ordered a small plate that our waiter said would take 20 minutes. After 20 minutes he returned to say they were out of what we ordered. So we ordered dinner and 45 minutes later we were served. My husbands steak, ordered medium well done was rare, my salmon was dry. Our waiter agreed that they were not done correctly, returned them to the kitchen and we never saw him or our food again. We ended up not getting any dinner and our anniversary date night was ruined. I am very disappointed because I loved this place and was so excited to go.

Everyone at Callahans was exceptionally nice & accommodating. It was a pleasure to stay & dine there. Very dog friendly too.
Kevin Broadie, formerly of Eleven in Ashland, is now chef here, and Andi Broadie is pastry chef. We have been fans for a long time and also love Callahan’s so thought we would drive up the mountain and check out the new combination. We had a most relaxing afternoon, and enjoyed outstanding food in one of the best outdoor dining settings in Southern Oregon. The gazpacho was the best I’ve ever tasted, the burger perfectly medium rare as ordered, and the cheesecake was “out of this world” according to my wife. And our two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels were treated to their own bowl of treats and and a big bowl of water. Can’t wait to go back!
