Capriccio by the Sea
Attended Capriccio for Restaurant Week. Made a reservation and was seated upon arrival. Server was attentive and prompt with service. Restaurant was not overly crowded as we went during off season, which was actually quite nice. We tend to patronize the local restaurants in the Fall, Winter and Spring months when the summer crowds have left the island. Will definitely go back!!
First time here! Our waitress Megan was phenomenal and we hope to see her when we return .
Went for the first time. Had reservations for 7pm and were seat promptly. Apparently the restaurant had been reserved for a large private party. This had an effect on the night.
Our waiter Sal was very nice and helpful. He went over the specials. We ordered a couple of drinks from the bar and placed our order.
For appetizer we had mussels marinara and they were solid. For entree we ordered salmon and a lobster & shrimp meal. From the time the order was place it had to be about 40 minutes until any food showed up. I think the kitchen was overwhelmed by the party. When our meals did come they weren't hot. The food was good but would have tasted better if served immediately.
I liked the menu and atmosphere and will
The staff was very attentive to my wife's allergy modifying a dish so she could enjoy a good meal. Food was delicious and fresh.
The service was good, but the food was not. The bread was stale. The calamari was tasty, but tough. The iced tea was good. The wine was expensive at $14 a glass. The shrimp scampi had no flavor of garlic and it did not smell or taste right. The ambiance was just ok. We live locally and tried it twice, but no more.
Our first time and we will be back. Everyone enjoyed the entres and apps. Unique blended flavors. Don't miss the lemon risotto which comes with many of the seafood dishes. All seafood was fresh and no heavy breading to mask the flavors. Full bar offers varieties of wine and mixed drinks.
The red sauce was good, but no real prosciutto for the fig special. Also we were told the crab cakes were pan fried. They were deep fried.
Absolutely awful from the minute we walked in. At 8pm they had disco lights going and a loud, obnoxious lounge singer in a pink sequin shirt. Took an hour to get apps & my husband's came out burnt. Drinks were terrible. At an hour & 40mins with still no dinner I asked for the manager who never bothered to come over. We left without having dinner and went elsewhere. Horribly run! Waste of a Saturday night at the shore!
We were seated right on time per our reservation. The waiter was professional and knowledgable with regard to the wine list, the days specials specials and the regular menu. The food was outstanding from the appetizers to the dinners. It was fresh and prepared perfectly. We were pleasantly surprised and will definitely be back again very soon. Nice atmosphere, a friendly bar and dancing area and a nice setting with for quality dining. Not your fast food menu so it is alittle pricier but well worth it! A gem for the Jersey shore.
Food was good but service needs improvement. Ambiance was ok but loud
Food was very good. But took too long for dinner to come out. Seemed a bit understaffed. If they could fix the delays I think they are in good shape .
We were excited to try Capriccio but decided to wait until the end of the summer since earlier reviews indicated they were having some issues during opening months. Unfortunately, this restaurant still isn't quite ready for prime time. The interior decor is pretty basic and kind of like a pop up restaurant in a warehouse. It's incredibly loud inside and difficult to converse with those at your table. Our waitress was really friendly and nice but it was obvious that she was new had no clue what she was doing. She read the specials verbatim from a cheat sheet and couldn't pronounce some of the ingredients. She couldn't keep track of who ordered our (pitifully weak) cocktails and admitted that tonight was the first time she had ever tried making cappuccino. Crab cakes were mostly cake. Spicy calamari was OK. 2 of us ordered the snapper special at $34 a pop. One order was way undercooked and inedible. The risotto was like instant cheesy rice. The tuna and chicken aurora entrees were decent. In the end, we dropped over $200 for 4 people and left disappointed. This restaurant does have potential though...
We might have come at a bad time due to college students returning to school. However there appeared to be be a lot of waitpeople but the kitchen couldn't keep up. We were there an 1 1/2 before we got our meal. Food was as good as most Italian restaurants. Have no plans on going back.
The food is outstanding!! The service is horrible from the bartenders to the 3+ hour dinner ( not by choice ). They are new and have a learning curve, but better get more competent people in there. This is the third time we've been there and service hasn't improved yet.
horrible services but not the waitress fault, kitchen needs a major recall on workers, restaurant manager is clueless on how to run a restaurant especially during a summer weekend, food wasn't that good either, will never go back ever!!!
Went to restaurant 2 weeks in a row, food was exceptional, manager was very caring, unfortunately waiters were very disappointing. We will however be back in hopes of better service.
The food was very good, service very good. In general, the place was a lot of fun. Will definitely recommend to friends. Would be great if they had a few more high end wines and bourbons. Had a great time after dinner listening to Rich Meyers at the front bar!
The food was ok for a shore restaurant. The fact that the manager would not honor my restaurant.com certificate was wrong. I was told it is not accepted in the summer. No where in the restrictions did it say it could only be used in the off season, only that it couldn't be used on a Saturday. He told me to get my money back from restaurant.com. His indifference is one of the reasons I we will not go back there.
Food was good, service was terrible but that type of service is pretty much standard for the area in the summer.
I took my girlfriend there for dinner and we enjoyed it immensely...so much so that I took my parents there for their dinner later that evening!
The wait staff advise you the food takes a little longer to prepare because it is made from scratch, but I didn't notice it took any longer. Even if it did, though, it was worth it. Every dish we've tried has been amazing. Wait staff is friendly (albeit a little over aggressive), ambiance is lively, and they have live music.
We will definitely be back.
This was our second time dining there. We went on a Saturday evening and they were quite busy. Our dinner took over two hours (we did not have dessert or coffee). They had entertainment which we couldn't hear at all in the other room which was disappointing. Service was very slow. Some of the food was terrific (the fig appetizer was fabulous although a wrapper was left on the plate). Other things like the risotto and vegetables were not cooked properly. They have a very limited wine selection and were out of the bottle we wanted but offered a nice backup plan. It felt they weren't quite prepared to handle the volume of business a Saturday night entails.
An extensive specials menu which might be better if printed rather than spoken as too many choices leads to confusion about what you have heard. It appeared there were too few waiters/waitresses to handle the full restaurant and the support staff was either disinterested or poorly trained. Water refills, bread, clearing were all neglected. Food was very good.
Unfortunately a band set up at 8:30 and started practicing. Very inconsiderate, rude - I feel the restaurant should have said something to them. Made the dining experience not good. Serve very slow.
The restaurant was extremely overpriced for the quality of the food. For example, The artichoke was supposed to be stuffed with cheese but was too soft and only stuffed with bread crumbs. I would not recommend this place to friends.
I think this restaurant has potential, however, they really need to get organized better. The seating is too tight for the space. The entire meal patrons and the staff are squeezing between the seats to get through, which does not make for a relaxing dinner. More importantly while the appetizers came out promptly, we waited over an hour for the main course. It was also obvious that they were also likely short on wine glasses since they were anxious to get them back from the table for use somewhere else. With all this said, the food was pretty good, which is better than the other way around.
I live in northern Jersey where the restaurants are very good so when we go on vacation it's pretty tough to find food that matches the quality we are used to. But this restaurant a surpassed our expectations! The food was delicious. Everything we had was excellent. We also had our 4 children with us who no matter where we go someone is always upset that they didn't like their meal. Not here. Every single one of us LOVED our meal! It's a good night when all the kids are happy!
There were 6 desserts on the dessert tray so I decided to get one of each and we all share. OMG!!! All the desserts were amazing !!!! I would drive an hour from my house just to go to this place for dinner. And our waiter Frank was awesome !!!!!
Excellent food. I thoroughly enjoyed my spending and pasta cioffi. U daughter had the stuffed artichoke and orecchiette with broccoli rabe, whichbshevsaid was absolutely delicious. The portions were more than adequate. We were so full we couldn't eat another thing. I highly recommend it.
I know they just reopened so they may need time to get their footing. The food was decent but the service was very slow and it wasn't that busy. The server needs more training on menu items and drinks. I know she was only 19 but she didn't know what bicardi was.
New restaurant, still in opening mode. Our food was delayed. Nice management. We will be back in much later time, hope they will be more organize by then.
A busy holiday weekend but they did a great job handling the chaos. Food and service both good.
Capriccio by the Sea, at the site of the former Gabriella's is a welcome addition to the NJ shore! The white-cloth tabled dining room is sophisticated and comfortable. Service was more than prompt and friendly, very profrssional. The food was top notch! Stracciatella, the classic egg-drop and spinach soup was thick and rich. Fresh mozzarella and tomato was done in its classic best. The shrimp francese was the best we've had. The batter was toasty and the lemon just right. A special, blackened salmon, was crusty and cooked perfectly. Both entrees came with different rissotos and both were perfectly creamy. Drinks, from a full bar, were reasonably priced and we'll mixed. All in all, it was a tasty and relaxing dinner. Well worth a visit!
this is our second visit since he reopened in the new location in Ortley Beach area. The chilean sea bass and blackened tuna specials were spectacular, as was the ceasar salad and hot appetizer medley of eggplant rollatine, clams oreganato, calamari and fried mozzarella. Then there are the homemade desserts, the gluten free dark chocolate cake served with blueberries/strawberries was to die for! As the menu states, be prepared for a 2 hour dinner, as everything is individually prepared and is worth the wait. suggest if you are visiting in the winter, avoid the front window seating area as it is bit colder than the interior areas.
Food and service was excellent. Great background music if you are into the era when people could actually sing...played Sirius Sinatra channel during dinner.
They are still rebuilding the place from the storm damage several years ago so we assume it will just get better.
The restaurant is still under construction. Not pretty. Food arrived cold. Good quality but not appetizing. The bill was a shock. This place is clearly in start-up mode. Let's hope it can tighten up the loose ends because the community could use a good restaurant.
We only live up the block & were excited to see that someone took over an aging Gabriella's. Capriccio's was great. Our server Ray was delightful & the whole dinner was excellent. Everyone was pleased with their meal & the wine list was limited but had some good bottles.
Overall a definite hot spot & we can't wait to go back. Props to the chef. Well done!
New location!! Atmosphere is coming along. It is a work in progress but the staff could not not have been more attentive than they were. Food was very good and moderately priced
Prior to Hurricane Sandy we found a gem of an Italian restaurant in Seaside Park called Patsy's. We had dinner there several times and had variety of Pasta, Seafood, and Meat dishes. All were excellent. It turns out that Ken the Chef is now in Ortley Beach and is reinventing a restaurant formerly known as Gabriellas. He applies a personal touch to his dishes and you will not be disappointed. A discount can be found through restaurant.com.
