First time at cedar knoll. Service was great. We had brunch, the food was good.
Fantastic as always. Visited after a Sunday trip to mount Vernon. But two small things, I wish it was more clear on the website that they were ONLY serving brunch when we visited. We were there @1:15 on a Sunday, I would have bought by then surely it would be lunch, but not a huge deal. What was off-putting was the less than warm greeting we received from the host. She acted bothered that we arrived early(with no expectation to be sat early) and I had to tell her the name and reso count she did not ask. Also, her skirt was so short it made me very uncomfortable. Especially when this restaurant requested the host who seats a table to reach across the tables and grab glassware to fill with water. Yikes.
Delicious brunch! Service excellent! Lovely spot!
We celebrated our good friend’s 95th birthday with Sunday Brunch. All four of us really enjoyed our different plates and dessert was extra special. Servers were especially helpful and kind. Six months ago my husband and I celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary with 100 guests at Cedar Knoll. It was a perfect day for everyone. So we definitely will be back.
Such attention to detail.
We had a delightful brunch experience. The food was very delicious. We enjoyed the risotto and the frittata and would have liked to try a number of other dishes as well. The service was very good. The ambience is very quaint and steeped with history. We are going to try dinner there soon.
Exceptional food and service amid wonderful ambience.
Excellent brunch experience. Great service and accommodate
In to our special requests.
Food was absolutely delicious and came in a timely fashion. Server was very kind and the room was quiet but lively, great ambiance!
Great food. Room is very noisy and was only populated by one server who was overwhelmed.
It’s was daughters birthday and she loved being treated like a princess! They always do a great job... the service was outstanding, the food was delicious, and the company couldn’t have been better!
The chef and culinary staff have a very good eye for presentation of the food, but I didn't find the crab cake flavorful. The wait staff were friendly and didn't keep you waiting too long between courses, and I thought that was great. I really want this place to succeed so hope they can work out some of the flavor isssues.
Cedar Knoll is the best for some history and a great changing menu! Ask to sit near a window unless you want to sit outside for some great views!
Amazing ambiance, food, and service. Thank you for a great evening!
We have been to Cedar Knoll many times over the last few years, but this was the first time for Sunday Brunch. It did not disappoint. I personally had the Duck Confit, and it was simply amazing. Coupled with a lovely Bloody Mary, it was a great brunch.
Food was delicious. The service was a little slow but good. I will recommend this place if you are not in a hurry.
The view is exceptional--overlooking the GW Parkway to the Potomac River and the horizon. However, the chairs in the room to the left as you enter, the more casual room, had chairs that were downright shabby. The utensils were stainless steel looked pretty inexpensive but the table cloth and napkin gave the table setting a finished appearance. The brunch menu was limited, no buffet. We put in our order and soon four bite-size, tiny amuse-bouche type bread pieces with butter and pepper jelly appeared. No basket with a variety of breads, very skimpy. I ordered the nest of poached eggs. The nest was cleverly prepared in a mini basket around each of two poach eggs made of crispy, hashed potatoes. There was nothing to sop up the eggs and the potatoes so I broke the brittle potato basket with my fingers and dipped into the eggs to be able to eat the egg liquid. Very unsatisfactory meal along with several pieces of nearly burned bacon, and some greens along the side. The best part of the meal was the coffee. My guest took most of her meal home and certainly didn't rave about it. I would call this establishment "faded glory." I waited for a long time to get the waiter's attention to get the bill--otherwise service was fine.
Inventive menu, wonderful setting particularly outside, service is attentive and knowledgeable, relaxing atmosphere
The food tasted excellent. (I had the risotto as my entree and the tuna as my appetizer.) Recommended improvements:
1) that the server present the bill a bit sooner. We were there at closing time and waited on it for at least 10-15 minutes after we finished eating. (We had three children five or under with us, and they were ready to leave!)
2) that the soda be a bit more carbonated—it was quite flat.
3) that the portion on the tuna be upped or else the presentation changed to make it more shareable among a group.
Nice place for lunch. The water view is fantastic. I would love for the menu to include some lower calorie options.
I loved the ambiance at Cedar Knoll and the history of the structure. The facility was clean and well-kept, and the service was good. The only things I did not care for were the flavors of my frittata and its side dish, a blend of sweet potato and potatoes. I felt they were prepared with dried oregano or a similar dried herb. I'd have seasoned it with a fresh herb like chives. Overall, though, a good experience.
Very pretty restaurant with adventurous food and a spectacular location right on the Potomac River. We went for Sunday brunch and were very pleased with the experience. Service was very good, the menu was interesting and the atmosphere was pretty and fun. The only reason we didn't give five stars was because the food didn't "wow" us. Great place for a brunch or date. Outdoor patio looked nice, too.
Great value for brunch and really wonderful food.
We love coming here - so wonderful - classy, delicious, great drinks!
The allure of Cedar Knoll is its location on the Potomac near Mt. Vernon. so for someone going to Mt. Vernon, it's a good lunch spot. However, the menu has not changed since this spring and some of the dishes seem a bit tired. Mussels were in something like a boullabaise sauce. OK but not great. My friends had crabcake which they said was "good." No real accolades. The waitress was also OK.
For full disclosure, we do not eat at fine dining establishments very often. But with that being said, this may be the greatest meal I have ever eaten in my 41 years. The helpings were gracious and the combination of flavors were mind-blowing. I had the lamb and my wife had the steak. We were there to celebrate her birthday but mostly ate in silence because of the euphoria going on in our brains. I cannot say enough about how spectacular the food was. The view of the Potomac, the ambiance, and the pleasant service made the whole evening one for the books.
i was surprised about the way the steak was prepared for my steak frites brunch dish. I expected the usual seared finish but got something less. I wonder if the meat had not been properly thawed before cooking as there was a brown substance coating two of the slices that I pushed away. Otherwise the food, drink and ambiance were wonderful so I would definitely try it again - just order something else.
Congratulation by turning a sows ear into a silk purse.
Delicious, locally inspired food with a river view. What more can you ask for?
We so enjoyed Cedar Knoll for lunch. Saturday afternoon was not crowded and we ate in the Garden Room. The food was outstanding. The Watermelon Gazpacho was refreshing and the crab cake sandwich divine. Lots of lump meat that left us wondering how it stayed together. The french fries were crisp and fresh. We split a dessert which was a passionfruit cream tart and enjoyed a double espresso. Wonderful service, wonderful food, wonderful afternoon.
I get that they're going for a warm, homey vibe, but the furniture is plain worn-out. The lamb, ordered medium-rare, was so rare that I had to take most of it home and finish it in the toaster oven as most of it was inedible as served.
Absolutely exceptional. Everyone was so polite and the service and food were fantastic. Only reason noise level was high is because there was a wedding there at the same time. Definitely will make a point of going again on a return visit to Virginia.
Food was delicious. Air conditioning too cold and I had not brought a wrap (that's on me) but the waiter turned an extra tablecloth into a shawl for me. Kind and thoughtful.
Food and service were great. The lamb was done perfectly and pecan pie with ice cream was a great way to end a meal!
Sat outside and enjoyed the entire event except for the flies.
Lovely, quiet and delicious food sums up our first time there!
What a lovely place to enjoy the end of busy week. We dined on Sunday in the window lined dining room with a view of The Potomac. Each dish was exceptional from the Watermelon Gazpacho and Rockfish Ceviche to the BBQ park chop and that grilled rack of lamb was perfect. Don't miss the lemon ginger semolina cake! it is delicious. A perfect place to entertain, escape for a dinner with a date...….and you could hear your dining partner what a novel thing! We can't wait to go back to Cedar Knoll!
Yummy food on beautiful china. My only request was that the patio was full when we got there as it was a beautiful day and I had been looking forward to sitting outside enjoying the view and the weather.
Great little place, food was fantastic! Great views of the Potomac.
I had noted on my reservation the two men in our party were having birthdays. I thought this would trigger something from the restaurant but there was not a word, a song, a dessert or a candle offered. It was a very. Ice evening, but I thought this was a detail that should have been acknowledge. Thank you,
