Chandler's - Cape Rey Carlsbad, a Hilton Resort

I had one of the chef specials and it was literally the best dish I have have had since I can remember. It was lemon caper halibut with corn polenta and winter greens - It was full of flavor and I am still amazed at how delicious it was. When I asked our server to give compliments to the chef, he brought out the sous chef and I was able to thank him in person. It was an overall great experience and I cannot wait to go back and get that dish again!

This was an extremely disappointing meal. Service was fine but the food lacked quality. Also, the charcuterie board had only 5 pieces of meat on it. You're better off going outside the hotel to get a meal, regardless of the view.

Excellent service, enjoyed the food and drinks, and lovely ambiance. A bit high-priced, but that was to be expected in a resort restaurant. Would return and would recommend to others.

We sat outside and the sunset was beautiful. We came an hour earlier than our reservation as our plans changed and they were very accommodating.

Our server was outstanding as well as the food and we really enjoyed our evening.

The service was outstanding and the food was extremely good. My wife ordered a French 75 and it was made perfectly (most bars get the ratios wrong). Our server was Lindsey and she was so helpful and attentive. I would totally recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for an excellent atmosphere and dining experience.

Chandler's has a gorgeous view of the Pacific Ocean and we were able to take it all in at sunset from their beautiful patio. We were not overly hungry (having eaten a late lunch) and they accomodated our request to share an entree and a salad, but of course we did also have to share desert. Great food, great service and an atmosphere that is very difficult to match.

Service was good and food was tasty. Prices are a little high, typical Carlsbad. But the view is nice.

Valentine's Day - overall a very good experience. Our waitress/service was terrific. My wife's meal (mushroom lasgana) was great; my meal - steak was good but not great & lobster/risotto was excellent, better than expected, but not a lot of lobster meat in it. Deserts were A+. Our table was near a door that was open to the outside, so it was a bit cold where we were sitting. At one point another couple asked for the door to be closed, which it was, but then another worker opened it again. Total for 2 was ~$250 (inc gratuity), which is a lot, even for Valentine's Day and we didn't even have a bottle of wine. My wife loved the overall dining experience.

Our server was great, as was the staff but the food and the wine was below average at best. We paid 600.00 for dinner...not an average price for 4 people! We expected great food. We felt like we ate at the casino buffet. Even our dessert lacked flavor!!!

For a $200 dinner for two, you would expect tablecloths. Ambiance was like eating in TGIF, Chili's or Dennys. New Year's Eve, $70 per person and people next to us in shorts and flip flops. I live 3 minutes from this hotel and have been here 3 times in 5 years. Only once for dinner which is a very limited menu.

Slow service, could be because of the holiday, but it was very slow throughout the whole lunch experience.

If you are looking for a casual dining place then this is likely for you.. just not my choice for a holiday. Very casual environment. VERY.
The food was okay but not as described in the menu.. no steak.. more like a roast of some sort. Dessert “table” was very limited and gross. The remaining food was ok. I think there are better places along the ocean I would reco before Chandlers.

In the past, we've gone here a lot for sunset cocktails and snacks. The holiday buffet is tired and overpriced. Probably won't go back. Most of the desserts were stale and tasted like they came from Ralph's. Not sure what's up with that. $80/person is too much for what they offer. Views are nice.

Great location and view, even though we were put near the entrance, far from any views, with two large parties and near a door that kept opening and not shutting. So it could be cold. Service was great. Martini was great. Food was very good. I feel like all the booths made the ambience a bit Dennys like. I would definitely come back for a more casual affair. We came on Christmas Eve and some people were casually dressed. Hey, it's Carlsbad near the beach, so I understand. Pricey, since it was a Holiday with a Prefix menu. 3 people in our party and the bill was almost $300.
I would return for sure. Again, for something more casual.

Food was terrible they should get a new chef. Price to high for the terrible food.

I wrote notes in our reservation, for a very specific reason. We were really looking forward to a nice quiet dinner. At first, he tried to seat us next to a table of infants, I requested something quieter, he than sat us in a corner, which was much better... and then they set up a table for a large group right next to us.
Next time, read the reservation notes!! We ordered our appetizer, but decided to go elsewhere for dinner.
We went here last year during the same trip, it was wonderful. This year, you missed the mark.

The service was good and everyone I interacted with was courteous and quick to respond. The food however was not impressive. Went there on Thanksgiving and paid $59 a plate. My food was barely warm and far from hot. The deserts were dry and tasteless. I would not recommend.

Enjoyed the peace and quiet as well as our waitress who was excellent. Food was a problem because of the spice used. Our waitress was good enough to solve this problem.

It was my mine & my husbands 7th year wedding anniversary & everyone at the restaurant was so friendly and nice. The food was delicious & they even gave us a complimentary cake for our special occasion! We had a reservation at 6pm but arrived 30 minutes early. They happily accommodated us. I would definitely recommend this restaurant. 9 out of 10!!

Nice view of the Pacific. Service was very good, though not as attentive as I had expected. Shrimp tacos were very good. Two Salad as lunch entrees were good, but not great. Nice Pinot Noir.

Wonderful view and a great selection even if the menu is relatively small. Save room for desert!

The Chandler's restaurant experience was good for us. The parking here is too expensive, but the ambiance in quite remarkable. I love being so close to the ocean while dining so comfortably. Watching the sun set as we dined and enjoyed a drink was the best part. The food was good and we enjoyed it, but it was not at the level that I expected from this venue and with the quite high prices that they charge. Our server was very well mannered and took good care of us.

Anniversary

We had a wonderful sunset dinner with friends. The food was great, Jose was so helpful and we witnessed the green flash at sunset. So memorable.

I had the cioppino, excellent good sauce and loaded with seafood & linguine. The sunset was n beautiful.

Ate on the lovely outdoor patio and saw the sunset. It was a little chilly and no one working could figure out how to turn on the heaters (we only sat outside because we were told there were heaters)
Food was so so. Needed a little more flavor. The service was good until we got our meal and the waiter disappeared. We finally got a bus boy to track someone down for our check.
All in all a little disappointed

When making the reservation it asked us to select indoor or outdoor seating. I chose outdoor but when we arrived they said there was no available seating outside so that was very disappointing. Then we were told we could sit outside in the self seating section. Big mistake. Six of us had to crowd around a 4 top dirty table. After waiting ~15 minutes we had to go ask for someone to come clean the table. The server then argued that it had only been 5 minutes, which was not true. Then the service continued to be slow and the server was rude. We asked to be seated inside and the hostess was very nice and found us a large booth with a great server who managed to turn the evening around. If not for that this would have been a 1 star review. It was loud since we were right next to the kitchen. The food was good though. The desert was delicious and the valet attendants were friendly and fast. I don't know if I would go back unless I was guaranteed an outside table with a good server that wasn't too overwhelmed with too many tables.

This is a fantastic place to catch up with friends, and celebrate birthdays, anniversaries. My husband celebrated out 28th anniversary, and it was wonderful. Jose, our server was friendly, and detail oriented. The restaurant itself was clean, fun and you can see the ocean/sunset from inside and outside. I would highly recommend Chandler's to all of my friends and family!

Chandler’s is great place for a special occasion dinner! I’d requested a table outside but also noted in my reservation that we’re a group of 9 and that 2 more may join. When we got there we were given a table inside because they said they weren’t sure if I would have additional guests. When i received the confirmation email, I confirmed and did not change the number of guests. If that was the deciding factor and there was any question, why didn’t someone call to tell me that?

The atmosphere is lovely but the value of the dishes wasn’t quite there. Servers were kind and attentive and cocktails were solid!

My wife and I were celebrating our 19th year of marriage and chose Chandlers for that experience. Jose and Rita made that experience incredibly memorable and wonderful. Everything from the table with an incredible view of the sunset, the amazing meal, the thoughtful “happy anniversary” dessert, cocktail and wine recommendations... made the night one to remember. We will certainly be back and will be requesting Jose.

We have never been disappointed at Chandlers. It is a bit pricey but quality is there.
