Love this place!
Well the roasted duck we pre-ordered was fabulous! But we really wanted to try many other dishes. Nobody ever came by to take our food order. We did ask about a few dishes but then our server just walked away. That was a wrap so we just left once we finished the duck. Beautiful location and maybe great for a special event, I just wish our service was better and that we could've explored more of the menu.
Wonderful experience at Chang An - food was fantastic and service was excellent. Must try the peking duck and green beans with eggplant. So delicious!
We went to this restaurant on Christmas Day (2020) expecting to have a fine dining experience. Well, they offered a fine dining price, but not a fine dining experience. As soon as we were seated at our table, we noticed our table cloth have holes, my chair was wobbly, and it was too hot inside the restaurant. I had to ask one of the the server to turn the heat down as Sweat rundown my back while I was eating. Service and food were good, but not great. I’ve had better food at Neptune (Marine Dr). I was disappointed. I expected more from this restaurant.
Food is fantastic, particularly Beijing Duck. Great attention to detail. Strong safety measures meant we could relax and enjoy spectacular dishes and enjoy ourselves.
Good meal.
Kids at another table screaming and it was ignored by the staff.
Nice combination of Cantonese and Eastern China cuisine. Cozy place and attentive staff.
Roasted Duck was great!
Tried two other dishes — pea tips and spicy noodles — which were mostly average.
Servers were very polite, and all of them (including the table side duck chef) were wearing masks.
Temperature check was needed before entering the restaurant.
Parking is free — they’ll give you a pass to put on the dash.
Good food. Nice atmosphere
They shouldn’t take the reservation if they are closing in 30min. The beef wasn’t cooked, soup was too salty and served with a metal spoon (which could burn the lips when it’s too hot). Overall very disappointed because I used to go there very often before the pandemic.
Father’s Day, the duck is must try.
We had a great time and loved the duck!
Food is not good as I expected, but the service really good, foods need to improve
Nice view, good food. Only thing is they give only two hrs time limit for each reservation
We had the Christmas fixed menu and were delighted with the array of delicious courses. Service was very attentive.
Excellent service, beautiful restaurant, and the best Duck in Vancouver. However, the Christmas Day menu seems very overpriced. The duck is only $99 which I believe is worth every dollar. However, the other dishes are $210. and it was just mushrooms, noodles, soup, rice, and dessert. Although they did taste good, they didn’t seem to be worth $210 to me, as the ingredients used were low cost (noodles, mushroom, bread, pork). I would suggest to offer better quality dishes with the duck. Thank you
The Christmas set dinner menu is definitely worth a try. Food was delicious and portions are generous.
Overall, eating at Chang'an was a very pleasant experience and I am glad to say that I would return. I appreciate that the cuisine was honest and simple as Asian food typically is, and the table side carving of the duck was a nice treat. Portions were fair for the price and my guest and I were more than satisfied with what we paid.
Brought my entire family here and it turned out to be a complete disappointment. At first the waiter made us over order, telling us "its not enough food, its not enough food..." We got waaaaay too much food all thanks to the waiter.
Their dishes are nothing special compared to an ordinary chinese restaurant. In fact, the food and service at red star, kirin, sun sui wah, are better than Chang'ans. EVEN THE PEKING DUCK, which is what they are famous for. All in all, this place is over priced, and the food sucks. My main advice would be to not listen to the waiters, as they have a poor sense of how much food to order...
The food was top notch, inventive but still recognizable as classics. I would order everything we had again and there was so much more to try. We will definitely come again.
Authentic Chinese food. Good place to dine
Fantastic experience spending a night there. We will come back again. Super good service and food.
The pecking duck was awesome! Super Crispy Skin and very delicious..
We were celebrating my dad's birthday and were disappointed when they closed at 9:30 and never notified us. We were not given everything we ordered as they told us it was too late and kitchen was closed. It was disappointing as everything else was superb.
Friendly service , Excellent food quality and great view .
Service has improved greatly in the last few years. Peking duck is best in town.
Great duck.
Everything was super good-! Especially, their deep fried eggplant was really tasty!
Really delicious food, perfect customer service. If you want to try some authentic chinese food, you must visit here.
I read many reviews saying this and should have taken a hint so here goes... Very over priced, food was okay but you could get similar or better food in many other restaurants. It's a beautiful restaurant and the servers were very attentive. The Peking Duck was good but I've had just as good at a fraction of the price so you really do pay for the setting - right on the inlet across from Granville Island. We were told as soon as we sat that the duck comes out 15 minutes after your reservation time which didn't give us any time to order appetizers. Then after the duck, we ordered 2 dishes and were told they were closing early so essentially cut us off. We were fine with that as we weren't too blown away by the food and opted to go else where. It was a pretty hefty bill for a sub-par experience.
Nice food and service!
Pretty good
Great Tapas style options
Very good Peking duck
The food was great. Love the environment and sea view there. Service was fantastic as well.
We went there for the roasted duck which was delicious. The service was excellent. Great view of the water on the patio. Would definitely come back.
Overly rated, over priced, service is average, view is great
This place is amazing, the food was fantastic, the duck is to die for, but everything else we ordered was great (lychee prawns, crispy beef tongue, scallops, roasted beef short rib, lamb buns), definitely the best Chinese food in Vancouver. The service was very friendly, the location is great. It was busy and a bit noisy, but they separate families with kids from guest with no kids, which is a great idea. It is very expensive (we paid $600 for 6 people with one drink each), but it's fine dining and definitely worth it for special occasions.
Bon voyage dinner for a couple of friends. Nine people in our party. Everyone enjoyed the food and the beautiful surrounding and view. Service was excellent. Our waiter and waitress were both attentive, friendly and helpful. The duck was pre-ordered and roasted to perfection. All other dishes were very tasty and presentation was beautiful. All in all a very enjoyable evening for us.
We brought our daughter's family to Chang'an for the delightful roast duck and western Chinese cuisine that we have enjoyed there many times. Our party included two little children - 1-year-old and 4-year-old - for which this elegant restaurant was prepared. They provided a booster seat and a high chair at a secluded table that would not disturb the other diners, yet provided us all with a lovely view and comfort. Another family group with slightly older children were also seated nearby. We love the hot and sour soup and appreciated the server's suggestions for child-friendly menu items.
