Kept us waiting 25 minutes without an apology, seated us next to an extremely loud 20-top at a table they’d clearly squeezed into a hallway, and then we didn’t see a waiter or waitress for another 20 minutes. Save your money.
Terrible waitress. Got the drinks wrong, got the food wrong. I look over and she’s on her phone. No apology. Waste of money
We had a bad experience at Chaplin’s tonight. Our server was inattentive and routinely brought the incorrect order. We waited more than 30 minutes to receive our first round of drinks.
Our meal was nearly saved by a very helpful member of the wait staff. For the sake of the restaurant to recognize her, I will add she was blonde and very attentive. She was able to correct the variety of mistakes our primary server made.
Not a place I will be in a rush to return.
Love this place. Great food, service and fun atmosphere. Nice to be acknowledged as a regular too
Food was sub par. Dinner was rushed!
We keep coming back for their ramen and spice bombs!
As always Chaplin’s provides a great dinning experience !!!
Great service, drinks and starters. Ramen is nothing to rave about. I’d return for drinks and appetizers, ramen not so much.
Really fun date and the food was outstanding! I’ll be dreaming about that Ramen for weeks!
great food and fun ambiance but the music is very loud so the conversation noise is similarly very loud
The host's are a little spread thin (make eye contact when people are talking to you!) but everytime I go I love our servers. Food is excellent. Go there at least once a month and even brought friends from SanFran to it and they also loved it.
We had a great time with our kids but thumbs up to Alli our server, she was accommodating to all our requests and very helpful with the kids.
Went there to celebrate a friend's engagement. Gave us some free champagne and were incredibly accommodating. Plus the food is great!
I love this place
Great food for a great price, with the bonus of Johnnie Walker BLUE (yes BLUE) for $15.00 a glass!! You can't find that anywhere else!
Amazing cocktails, try the one with burning rosemary. Food wonderful. Happy hour prices brilliant.
Chaplin's is my go-to whenever friends or family are in town or just for a date night out. LOVE this place. Food is consistently excellent and reasonably priced. Can't be beat!
The selection of ramen noodles at Chaplin are delicious. The portions are just right. The fried crab wontons are perfect bite size. The Chaplin A.S.S. was perfect. The noodles are cooked to perfection, the spices have just the right kick, and the coconut milk just ties the flavors all in. Will definitely be back.
Drunken dumpling were amazing!
We live in the neighborhood and have been to this restaurant many times, it is one of our favorites. This is the first time we have had a bad experience. We were seated for our reservation late and then due to multiple mix ups with our order entry we had no time to actually enjoy our food before having to leave for our movie reservation. The food was also not as good as usual, I’m guessing because they rushed to finish the cooking after the mix up. In addition chicken was included in my vegetarian wife’s dish. With no time to correct the mistake we simply paid the check and left. We allotted over an hour for the meal which is typically plenty of time and we ordered pretty much right after being seated. I hope this is just an outlier and not the new normal for a restaurant we frequent.
Hillary waited on us and was amazing. She gave great recommendations for drink and dinner options.
Dixson and Hillary are phenomenal bartenders! They make the place golden! Ask for them!
Always love this place and enjoy sharing it with my friends. Attentive staff, great food and fun ambiance.
It was my first time coming here. The setting is very nice and clean. The hostess and servers were very friendly and attentive. The blonde bartender upstairs was very down to earth and awesome! My only complaint was the noise level was too loud. There were 4 of us at the table very close together and we still had to yell. But overall it is a nice place.
Too loud, too dark. Too many people using phone flashlights
Nice wonderful place! I brought my great-aunt who was visiting for a conference. Thought some Ramen would do her good, considering this cold windy weather we we're having.
We arrived 30 minutes early, figuring we could wait at the bar and test out their Happy Hour specials. The bar was full! But no worries, the restaurant was able to seat us anyway.
Our server was excellent. She was kind, patient and recommended some tasty options for our dietary restrictions. My great-aunt stays away from Spicy and I'm a vegetarian.
The Ramen, broth and veggies-everything was delicious! We we're so full and satisfied in the end, we didn't even have any room for dessert. I can't wait to come back to try more.
Minus one star for the seating arrangement. The tables down stairs were awkwardly placed close, so there was limited space to slide into the booth to be seated or come by to drop off food, refill drinks, etc. So imagine, Butts were up in your face every time someone was passing in or out of the table/booth!
I love Chaplin's. Always have. It's my go-to spot with one of my girlfriend's from college to meet and catch up. I was feeling pretty under the weather while waiting for my friend. Had some chills, body ache and a little bit of a temperature. I was so cold and it was warm this day for a Jan in DC. The waitress was so patient with me. I asked for hot water and lemon right away to warm my internal temperature so that I could be somewhat enjoyable for dinner with my girlfriend. She brought a pot of hot water for me as well and checked on me just enough before my friend arrived (she came about 10-15 minutes past our reservation time and I arrived about 10 minutes early--so I was waiting for about 20 minutes or so). I always get the Chaplin A.S.S. and it's always so good. It warmed me right up. The service was great. Not too much and not too little. The noise level was pretty loud and the tables are pretty close together so it's a little uncomfortable to hear. Also, the playlist that was going at one point was blaring hard rock/metal type of music and was quite unpleasant to dine to. Other than that--all was great!
I really enjoy the food and great drinks at Chaplin's BUT the seating is horrible. I made a reservation and they attempted to seat 3 of us at a high top that was in the worst possible position - across from the bar, on the way to the bathroom and in the path of the kitchen. They smushed 2 chairs together on one side of a round table like I really wanted to sit on top of my friend. When I complained I was told I could wait for an hour and a half (despite my reservation) but I guess when you complain loud enough the manage finds you a decent table. That's the most annoying thing about this place, the seating sucks. But the food, drinks and waiters/bar staff are awesome.
Terrible table, we were jostled the entire evening, made reservation days in advance. The table was way too large for just two people, we could barely hear each other. Not to mention seated in the middle of the bar with people standing all around us. Saving grace was the food.
We've been before, and will come back, this trip was sub-par. Second floor was COLD, NOISY, and we never did get one part of our order. Add to that the hint of "rude" we were getting off of the person who took care of us, and it was not up to par.
Really love Chaplin but wish the music had been quieter.
Best comfort food and cocktails around.
Service was Awesome! The guy who seats everyone is EXCELLENT! Very pleasant and efficient. He gets things done!
Really good food and bartender, but they sat us at least 20 minutes after our reservation, and that was with a bit of prodding.
I love Chaplin's! I'm not sure why I never tried this place, but I have dined here twice in the past week. Definitely, a new fav spot. My dinner companion and I ordered the Chaplin's buns with the braised Japanese pork with the veggies and spicy teriyaki bbq on bao buns... delicious. There was just enough fattiness in the pork, all of the flavors blended perfectly. We both ordered the Stamina Spicy ramen... the broth is rich and flavorful, not too spicy. I added the wakame, stamina egg and bok choy. Delicious!
At Chaplin's, the pork is the STAR! On our first visit we tried the pork and beef gyoza, shumai and the Yakibuta Platter...pork belly, pork butt, kimchi and veggies on a bao bun! Amazing! The original, hand crafted cocktails were also well done. Great bar crowd, chill atmosphere, good music and amazing food... What more could you ask for?
The Chaplin A.S.S was great, perfect level of spicyness! The cocktails were very strong, but tasty!
Run to this place now, it's phenomenal! Had never had ramen before and im a fan now! Had the spicy ramen won tons (so amazing) beef goyoza and wine with a friend. Everything paired so well and the flavors are everything! Super hot spot for friends thst like good food, drinks, and conversation, super lively atmosphere.
My boyfriend and I love Chaplins - we come often! The ramen and drinks are great - some of the best in DC. My one comment is that the appetizers and salads could be more vegetarian friendly.
Great place to meet up with friends. Ramen was pretty good. It is a bit dark so be sure to make sure you have all your stuff when you leave. Left gloves behind but the next day the staff was kind enough to look for it and they found it for me.
