Chapter One

Excellent food as usual, service very attentive and good adherence to Covid regulations with the tables well spaced out, the staff wearing masks all the time and the individual greeting at the door with hand-gel dispenser at hand. Chapter One is where you go for a special meal (unless you are very lucky and can afford to eat there every day!!) and they do make it feel special.
1 small slip up on our recent visit was that we asked for some extra bread when they brought the main course but it didn't arrive until we had almost finished. By the way some of the bread was the most fantastic I have ever tasted - 1/2 way between sourdough and a freshly cooked doughnut - delicious.

The menu offered a good choice. We went for the Christmas Menu which was good value for 4 courses. The meal was excellent.

Food was delicious. Would have liked the option to have 2 courses rather than 3 as don’t normally eat 3. All desserts had alcohol in which was the only shame. Other than that was delicious

We had a nice meal in a very pleasant atmosphere at Chapter One last Thursday. We felt good attention was taken to the virus regulations and enjoyed our dinner very much.

Enjoyable meal as always, slightly different due to COVID, but overall my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed it as we always do.

Very Covid aware. Set Xmas Lunch menu. Christmas began today for us Lovely food in lovely restaurant. Such a treat before no doubt we go into tier 3 restrictions next week.

Food was very excellent, although the selection of bread wasn’t up to its usual standard and wasn’t warm, I don’t know if the COVID rules were the reason for this.

Christmas dinner was well presented and excellent value but sprouts were very hard and food was not as hot as I would have liked. However it was a good selection of goodies on my plate. We shared a Christmas pudding. We decided it was the best Christmas pudding we had ever had and plenty for two of a small appetite. We would go again.1

Really good to get out after lock down and chapter one didn’t disappointment, excellent food and good service. A great way to celebrate the start of Christmas.

Good food but never really caters much for vegetarians

Really lovely to be back at Chapter One for a belated anniversary dinner. Food was delicious as always and staff really happy to be back.

We had a lovely birthday meal. All precautions were taken and we felt at ease in the restaurant.

The only restaurant in the area that feel like being up town. Professional but friendly staff.
Social distancing easy

For special occasions Chapter 1 cannot be beaten, the service, ambience and food is outstanding, the attention of the staff is first class. Been there several times before and will no doubt go again (Boris Johnson allowing)

Chapter One does so well. Food and service both excellent, they have accommodated social distancing with no problem at all. The restaurant feels a safe, warm, friendly place to be. Highly recommended.

Always a pleasure to go back. Sunday lunch was yummy. Especially enjoyed the jeruselem artichoke starter and the seabass main. Chose the brownie for dessert and although tasty a bit too chocolatey for me.

Been here once before, first meal out since lockdown. Restaurant made us feel very safe with their COVID system in place.

Food, sorry to say nothing exciting, nice, but nothing which makes me want to rush back. My starter, smoked belly of pork, roast quail, quail scotch egg, black pudding - nice, don’t remember seeing the black pudding. My main was Oxtail, enjoyable, however think it lacked seasoning.

Partner also had oxtail and thought his was more fat than meat. He too thought his meal, including starter lacked seasoning.

Big put off was paying for three course meal, £51, then having to buy vegetables....if a set price, why not include vegetables....£3.95 per dish additional....
