Our waiter Pauley was amazing. Highly recommend the steak, mac and cheese and pineapple sorbet.

The Salmon was the best in Rochester, I've tried them all.

Food was good. Our server was good with questions about the menu and he made good wine recommendations. Ambiance is missing something . The restaurant is in the middle of the hotel lobby and really so it struggles with intimacy especially for the price point of the food being served. Come here for a decent steak with friends or your birthday or after a promotion . Don’t come for a romantic dinner or anniversary

I was extremely disappointed in the service. Very standoffish server, never smiled, robot like until he realized I was in the business. The food was mediocre at best and the prices were way too high for the taste and portion sizes.
Just so disappointing.

Excellent ambience, outstanding food and drinks, and great service. The only thing that could be improved is the temperature at the table we sat, it felt a little nippy.

Found out why they call it "Char." My 8oz filet was burned on the outside. Just tasted like charred salt and was dry on the inside. Service was very slow and food was not that great considering the high prices.

Each dish was better than the last.

Great food. but service needs improvement. For a high end dining experience, the service and overall attention to detail was more reminiscent of a mid level chain restaurant. Hard to justify the overall dining experience for the price. For that reason I would be hesitant to recommend it to a friend.

Every time me and my husband have dinner at Char, the food and service is phenomenal. This time was no different. Our food and drinks came out in a timely fashion and everything tasted delicious. Will come here again and again for many special occasions!

Birthday dinner. Service was terrific. The food looked Beautiful and tasted Delicious!

Our waiter was not very attentive and seemed to have other things on his mind besides serving us. It took him over 20 minutes just to take our order and he never refilled our coffee as promised. Our water girl had to remind him to take our order; she was excellent, attentive, and very polite. The food was excellent as always and we would definitely go again and recommend to others, but with a different waiter preferably.

We had a table for 5, Emily our waitress was superb. The filet mignons were delicious as well as the charhattans and martini’s

Great service, staff k ew exactly what they were talking about. Pasta special that rotates is always executed well and thought out. Chefs are very knowledgeable and ambience was great for our boys night

Outstanding food and service.

First I’ll say the food is expensive, so the expectation is that it is extra special to warrant the expense. Not so. $17 for an appetizer if 2 quarter sized scallops. Tasty, but... $44 for an 8oz Filet mignon, served with a bernaise sauce. Steak was good, sauce was cold. No sides with that, we ordered risotto, an additional $10, it was okay, & asparagus, also $10 was not cooked. That was the food.
The service was what you’d expect at a sports bar, not a fine dining establishment. Very loud, intrusive, certainly friendly (too familiar), like you’d expect from a neighborhood joint. We were celebrating an romantic evening & our waiter interrupted our personal conversations three times to say things like “SO, how is that___awesome, huh?” Or, “SO, still doing okay?”
Beautiful surroundings, mediocre expensive food, Friendly but not appropriate service. Not good for a romantic evening.
Both of us had a stomach ache that evening.

First I’ll start with staff, very well mannered and knowledgeable. The food was great. You get what you pay for. Was high priced but tasted oh so heavenly!!

Incredible service and food...Our waitress Emily was phenomenal.

A well designed, modern feel excellently complemented a traditional selection of steak choices. The menu also features unique, thoughtful choices for fish, chicken, and vegetarian options. Also a good wine selection. The sides are really good (I do wish they had a creamed spinach!). I enjoyed it and would return.

I would have given 5 stars but the dessert was deplorable. For the price and atmosphere of the restaurant we expected much much better.

We started outside, but when the rain started, staff bustled around us and whisked us indoors almost without our asking. Outstanding service continued, food was superiors, and there was absolutely no concern over physical distancing or dining indoors. Someone was going around wiping high touch areas with disinfectant continuously. All staff wore masks and stood back. Great experience.

Experience was good but not our best at Char. Staff wasn’t as attentive as usual (didn’t refill water, no bread)

Good experience. But with our reservation our table still took 45 mins to become available due to slow customers. But the hostess gave us two rounds of drinks to thank us for our patience; so that was a very nice treat.

Great place for a special actuation. Took a little bit of time to order but the staff was very friendly and helpful in picking the right dishes.

Dinner was fantastic and our server was incredible.

It was a nice space. The service and the food was good. There were, however, too many bees on the outside so we had to move inside. I really don’t know, however, what the restaurant could have done to alleviate this situation. This is a problem with eating outside in the summer time.

Expensive but great dining experience.

Eating outside during the pandemic might have one question the atmosphere and safety of a locale. Char was set up with sufficient distancing and all servers had their masks. The food was outstanding and the service was attentive and friendly. Being outside and not on top of others kept the noise to a minimum.

Not a "fancy" restaurant. They aren't wowing you with presentation. Expensive restaurant, yes. When the warm bread is the best part of the meal...

Steak was overdone service was just OK expected more for the price I paid
