The Lexington is more than a restaurant, it’s an institution. Located on the corner of Lexington Parkway and Grand Avenue, this St. Paul community was the most fashionable at the turn of the 19th century. The St. Paul elite lived just blocks away and the first electric trolley brought visitors up and down Grand Avenue. The Lexington opened in 1935, after the end of prohibition, and was a popular neighborhood bar to gather and socialize. Previously operating as a speakeasy, the expansive wood panels were perfect for hiding a little booze and one can only imagine the shenanigans going on beyond the hidden staircase behind the coat check. For decades following, The Lex, as it’s called by locals and enthusiasts alike, was the place to be seen; business dealings, cocktail hours, and milestone celebrations were a regular occurrence for St. Paul socialites.

And a whole lot more.Providing a sophisticated twist on the classic neighborhood tavern, Red Cow celebrates finely crafted eats and drinks with a focus on gourmet burgers, craft beers, and fine wine. The best way to join us at Red Cow is to walk in. During dinner hours, the entire restaurant is reserved for walk-ins. We do offer scheduled reservations for lunch and brunch, though they’re never required. For parties over 6 guests please call the restaurant to make a reservations. Welcome to the most unique neighborhood specialty coffee shop and Cat Lounge in Minnesota. Outstanding coffee, local snacks, pastries, and house-made sandwiches can be enjoyed in our Cat Lounge, our coffee shop area, or our gorgeous back patio. Our Cat Lounge is a cozy, award-winning sanctuary filled with well-worn upholstered chairs, a jazzy mid-century vibe, a curated wall of books and games, and a welcoming fireplace. Our cats roam, nap, and play in the Lounge (sorry, they are not up for adoption). Note our cats are free to move between the Lounge and their basement living quarters, so you may see them or not, depending on their mood. Cat Lounge reservations are 55 minutes starting on each hour. Reservations are recommended; walk-ins are accepted when there is room. No reservations are required in the coffee shop itself. AGE LIMITS IN THE CAT LOUNGE: 15+ allowed always. 10+ only on weekends and Tween TV night. 0-9 only during Cats & Cartoons, 7am-9am Saturday mornings.
