In 1976 local musician and entrepreneur Harvey Platt had the idea to bring a slice of America to Norwich after working for and with the American war machine in South East Asia and a later visit to San Francisco to meeting up with former musician buddies.Harvey had the opportunity to purchase an old café caravan situated on Castle Meadow Norwich next to the old cattle market.Zaks opened in May 1976 serving the now famous chargrilled burgers in the “Original Zaks Caravan” wrapped in tin foil and cooked fresh to order in the American tradition.If it is an authentic American dining experience you are looking for then Zaks is your kind of place. We specialized in fresh fish daily seabass, bream, mussels, Mackeral swordfish, what shall Frank cook for you. , and fab raviolis like artichoke, crab, mushroom, and gorgonzola and walnut. Mmmm. Zafra’s is the perfect place for lunch, dinner, celebrations, an intimate dinner or a get-together with friends.Our new low carb project has started in Ernest in collaberation with colne valley nhs trust trying out new no carb option like edame bean and soy pastas and gluton free pizza bases.     Was taken by a vegan friend (I'm not a vegan) and was very impressed by this place and will definitely be returning. The food is amazing and comes far cheaper than it should be (it is truly delightful). The menu was explained carefully and I was even helped with my milk selection for my coffee (me not knowing the difference between the multiple options of vegan milks). The only downside is that it is very hot in the restaurant, even tho it was cold outside. My friend said this was due to there being a hot yoga studio as part of the place. Overall, Excellent place and I highly recommend.
