Downtown Grill - Macon
We had THEE BEST experience at Downtown Grill. My husband and I took 3 clients and none of us had been there before and we were all from out of town, so I was a bit apprehensive. Our server, Sarah, was outstanding, describing in great detail each menu item. She was very engaged and passionate about the food. We had 3 appetizers that were all fabulous and we all enjoyed our meal as well. All of us travel extensively and were blown away by the quality of the food and service. I can't wait to go back!! I highly recommend Downtown Grill!
Great food and great service. Great find !!
There is a very good reason why downtown grill has been around as long as it has. The food is amazing.
Good place good food. Wasn’t really impressed with the food for the price but it was a great experience. I would still recommend someone trying this place if they never have. Service was top notch.
Met an out of town friend for dinner (we drove up from FL and she was from AZ); had lots of catching up to do. Picked this place because we knew from previous dinner that food, service, and ambiance is great. Low to moderate noise level allowed us to chat. Server was very attentive and yet allowed us time to visit. We were here for nearly 4 hours. Friday evening Sept 7 2019. We were party of 3.
Service was excellent, however, we were there when they had just opened and were the only customers. Food was good but overpriced for the quality. One of the customers or perhaps the owner was sitting at the bar when we were shown our table. He was smoking a cigarette. The smell did not travel to our table but was not pleasant to walk past considering that it's a restaurant and smoking is no longer legal in a public areas.
My friends and I had a wonderful evening! The food was delicious and the staff were incredibly personable and helpful. It was truly the perfect night.
The whole place over all was great! The food, the staff, everything! Couldn’t have picked a better place for our anniversary! Will be coming again soon!
The appetizer, the chartreuse board, was very good. Our table ordered 2 of the steak specials. They were very expensive, 52.00 , and the steak was very average. The food presentation for the dinner was very poor. The sides came in small bowls, served like SnS cafeteria. The wine selection by the glass was very limited. Also, the cigar smoking in the front of the restaurant did not ventilate out very well. The dining area appeared hazy from smoke. The desserts , again, were average. Although the pecan pie was a 5, very delicious. I will give this restaurant another try, but only one more try.
Good food and good service. Pretty quiet once rowdy table left. Conducive to conversation which is what we wanted
Always a wonderful neighborhood dining experience
Awesome dining. Always good.
My favorite restaurant when travel takes me to Macon. This trip I had my boss with me and we had travel delays that were getting there just when the kitchen was scheduled to close. We talked to them on the phone about ordering from the car while we parked so they could close the kitchen but they said just park and come in and all would be fine. They took great care of us and my boss now has this on his favorite restaurant list as well.
Food was great but they sat us in a back room with ripped, old chairs lining the walls. Make the room either storage or dining, not both.
Good youthful vibe great food good service friendly waitress I mean that in a good way as my wife and I had a great time
Forty-first (41) wedding anniversary celebration. My wife and I had a wonderful time. Great food, superior service and thoughtful. Downtown Grill made the evening special. Thank you!
The food and the ambiance was great in this restaurant. Also, to have a place to mingle and have a smoke is the kind of atmosphere I enjoy.
My regular haunt in Macon. The drinks are always a delight and the food is delicious!
First, the bar front area allows smoking-cigarettes and cigars. You walk through it to the back of a dark, moldy-smelling room. We were then seated behind a party of 11 while there was plenty of tables and seating elsewhere. Our booth literally rocked back and forth. The other side was affixed to the wall crooked. I ordered cream pasta and chicken. The chicken was black and dry set atop pasta with a flavorless sauce. It wasn’t even seasoned. It had 3 small dollops of goat cheese on top with tomato chunks garnishing the plate. The thickly sliced a tomato and cut the circles in half and used it as a garnish. It looked horrible. I still can’t believe I paid for it. My husband had a steak and daughter the fish and they were both prepared well except for the sides of pesto mashed potatoes. As they got cold, they hardened.
Needless to say, we won’t be back
Everything was wonderful. Can't say enough if how good it was.
My wife and I always enjoy eating at the Downtown Grill, the service is great, friendly and the food excellent.
Excellent service and amazing food. You have to get the filet mignon.
I was celebrating a promotion with a friend! The smell from the cigar bar was overpowering in the front of the restaurant, but the dining area was much further back, which was great. The overall smell was off a vintage building and took a little adjusting to, but after that everything was great. Our waitress was fabulous, very attentive. We both wanted the lamb chops and were disappointed to find they were out of those. We settled on other entrees, the duck and the trout, and both were good. We had moscato with our meal, which unfortunately was ineligible for the Wine Wednesday special due to the smaller sized bottle. It was quite tasty though. I enjoyed my experience overall and would definitely go back!
Downtown Grill is one of the premier places to eat in Macon. It is located in an old building in an ally in downtown. One negative fact about the place is that it is also a whiskey/cigar bar at the front of the restaurant and you have to walk through that to get to your table. However, once you reach your table you cannot smell anything from that area. The food is very high scale and the service is exemplary. We only go here for special occasions due to the expense but if you are from out of town and want to experience some of the best Macon has to offer definitely give the Downtown Grill a try.
Food was excellent, exceptional customer service. Will be going back and telling my friend and family
Amazing food, wonderful service and super cool atmosphere! We will absolutely be back!
Great food with a wonderful atmosphere! Our waiter was Wonderful, and very knowledgeable about the menu as well as the specials. He told us his favorites, as well as a few dishes he did not particularly care for due to the seasoning/spices on the dish.
Only negative would be the pricing, but in my opinion for the service we received, as well as the quality of food it was well worth it.
Loved it! Great food and waitress was fantastic! Low noise level! Will go again soon!
Shelby was an AMAZING, kind, knowledgeable server. The food was fantastic and great liquor pours. We’ll be back in August for mybhusbands Birthday.
Blake was our server on Friday night and he was amazing! The ambience is unique and in the lines of being in an old time restaurant and speak easy bar. The food was delicious! We had the blackened strip steak and grit casserole, scallops and salad. Oh, and the cinnamon ice cream pie desert. Yum! We will be going again soon!
Delightful as always- a must stop every time I’m in Macon. Server was prompt, pleasant and I knowledgeable of the menu.
Haven't been in years, recently moved back to the area, wanted to impress my lady for her brithday and ALL was WONDERFUL!!! Cant wait to come back.
Other than having to walk thru cigarette smoke to get to the dining section, the ambiance was good. The server was very knowledgable and prompt. However, the menu needs to be more inclusive of details of each meal. Definitely need a section for the sides. Overall experience was a 4 out of 5.
The service was amazing. We were shown to our table immediately and each table had their own waiter. There was no wait. The food was not that good and way overpriced. The noise level was perfect.
We were seated next to a part of 13. We asked to move to a booth in a different room but were told we couldn't because the open booths were parties that had reservations later. I told the waiter that we had reservations too but he said that the other parties made the reservations before us, so we couldn't have their table, even though their reservation was for later.
We were in town for 2 nights, but didn't return the second night. Food is excellent, but did not feel we were accommodated.
Been coming every time we visit Macon, but probably won't be back
Food was good. Potatoes were lukewarm which I read has been an issue before. Service was good. Adam was very attentive.
Amazing service and food!!
Our sweet server even provided desert as we were celebrating two birthdays!
Great dinner. I tried the Elk and was very happy. Definitely going again.
Enjoyed it as always
Great place but hard to fine....it is in a narrow alley. But worth the find!
