What was once used as an encampment for General Lafayette's troops during the Revolutionary War has been transformed into a modern, elegant restaurant with the feel and charm of a Tuscan villa. Chef-Owners Robert Vicari and Carlo Carbonaro have fused their extensive restaurant experience together to offer a variety of dishes hailing from both the northern and southern regions of Italy. For over a century, patrons have found comfort in this historic inn nestled in the heights of the Meadowlands. Opened in the 1870’s as a stagecoach inn, travelers in horse and carriages, riding along Polifly Road (later named Terrace Avenue), stopped here to eat and drink in the tavern below and sleep in one of six guest rooms above. After the turn of the 20th Century the Inn evolved into a fine dining restaurant (a popular speakeasy during Prohibition), but eventually fell into disrepair. In 1996, the restaurant undertook an extensive renovation and on Valentine’s Day of 1997, the Inn once again opened its doors for fine dining, aptly renamed, Ivy Inn. Since reopening, the Inn has witnessed countless marriage proposals, weddings, and anniversary celebrations. Continuing its long legacy of hospitality under new ownership as of 2025, the Ivy Inn remains a Bergen County favorite and continues to promise cherished memories for many years to come.
