Ordered pre-fixe Christmas takeout per COVID restrictions — salad course was great. Soup was not memorable. Main course was good, though nothing exciting. Dessert was awful, very dry, very unappealing looking. Not worth the price, food very underwhelming for a restaurant with Michelin accolade. Swing and a miss.
Our stay at the Mirabelle Inn was very nice. The staff were all excellent and accommodating. Though these "Covid" times are so restrictive and cumbersome, we were able to use the outdoor patio for eating, wine, and games (we were guests at the Inn). The food from 1st & Oak was very good, however, no fine dining should ever be experienced as "Take Out". I'm sure that plating the food properly with the service of staff would have made it an outstanding dining experience.
I can see why they got the lowest Michelin rating, not even a star, just a mention in the guide. I should have known not to order from there when I called to inquire about what the were and weren't doing for the holidays as I live outside the county. There was conflicting information in regards to their holiday dinner menus and the woman I spoke with was completely rude about my questions. When I came to pickup my food on Christmas Eve at my specified time (which they did let me push back a half hour as I was running late), there was a couple standing in the lobby and no staff. I stood there for 5 min before I finally asked them if this is where you pickup the food and if they had spoken with anyone yet. Just as they were saying they did a woman came frantically out from the back calling my name with a takeout bag. I took my food abs drove back to my hotel 3 miles away. The hot food was freezing, the salad was drenched in dressing, the cake was dry, and I was missing my side of creamed spinach. Thanks again for the overpriced, poor quality Christmas dinner!
We did curbside pick up so can't comment on ambience or noise level! The food was amazing and it was ready right on time. We will definitely be back!
This was the first time we tried this restaurant and it was over the top outstanding! The food was so delicious! All four of us, in my family, said that this was the best meal we’ve had in a long time. We will definitely go back and highly recommend this restaurant!
It was my father's Father's 90th birthday and the staff at First and Oak was awesome! The food was absolutely delicious. We had the duck breast which was delicious, moist and tender. It was beautifully presented with flowers and arranged on the plate in a beautiful fashion. The mushrooms and potatoe croquette was also wonderful. The chef himself brought my Dad his rice pudding and ice cream desert. The chocolate mouse desert I ate was awesome as well. We will eat there again soon since we live in town it's easy to do.
Food was amazing, service was top notch and we will be back! The duck wings and scallops were our favorites! So happy we went! Sat outside with space heaters due to covid (bring a jacket).
Wonderful Thanksgiving dining experience. Great food, superior service, and lovely atmosphere. Happy for the vegetarian alternative for my 17 year old. We will definitely return!
Everything was great except food was getting cold fast because of outdoor dining. Not the restaurant’s fault.
Amazing food, surprising find for the area. Everything we ordered was delicious. Highly recommend!
Food was delicious, we especially enjoyed their seasonal beignet dessert. Located on a quiet street and even with outdoor dining was not too cold. Looking forward to returning in the future.
This place has earned Michelin stars and it shows; attentive service, delicious food we had oysters, kimchi cracklings, little gem salad, truffle risotto, Kobe beef, and chocolate & honey mousse. AMAZING!!!
Every plate we ordered was exceptional, surpassing expectations. The oysters and the scallops were incredible. I don’t even like cauliflower and the cauliflower dish was amazing. Definitely hope to visit again someday.
Best cut of beef I’ve ever had. The fish was excellent too.
The Wagyu Medallions were heavenly!!
We wanted to like this restaurant a lot more than we did. It was good not great. For the price there are several other places close by that I would look into first. Overall the ambience was nice and the service was decent. Food was good.
Service started out quite slow but gradually improved and we ended up having a wonderful time. The food was excellent.
Our server Lianne was wonderful! Excellent food, awesome service and wonderful outside atmosphere at night! They did a great job with the setup and thankful there was a heater. Highly recommended!
This is a very boutique restaurant and the food and service was outstanding. It was a lovely way to spend an evening. Thank you for such a great experience.
Highly recommend
We came in for my husband’s birthday. We shared everything. The duck was the best dish. The only dislikes were the beets which were too salty and the fish special which seemed as though it had been frozen. Service was great and the wine list was excellent.
We enjoyed a very nice dining experience. We thought it was dangerous that some dining chairs were placed so close to the curb edge. Chair could easily go off the edge as a diner moved, or getting up to move. Kind of a precarious situation.
Everything else was pleasant and food very good and well prepared and presented. It will be nice to be able to dine inside once again, especially now weather is getting cooler at night .
Hi, Thank you for your patronage and feedback. While we have not had any issues with the arrangement I appreciate your concern and we will make some adjustments to allow for more space. Normally we have a beautiful dining room to service our guests and wouldn't ever have this problem sans Covid. We look forward to welcoming you back in the near future . Stay safe!
Amazing food and service!!!
We had a lovely dinner. The service is 5 stars. Everything was so good. My favorite was the duck wings. Omg! 😍
I wanted to order another one. Must try in Solvang!
We visited during Covid which required outdoor seating. They did a good job creating ambiance and safe-distancing simultaneously. The service was top-notch: friendly, professional and allowed for a leisure experience with dining. The wine list was good - we were recommended a local bottle and loved it. The appetizer was delicious, and the desert was out of this world. The cauliflower 'begin' was amazing. The baby gem could have been a bit better - the pesto dressing on top was too bitter, but good. Just not as good as I would have expected from a Michelin starred restaurant. The only real disappointment were the entrees. There was a really long lag between the starters and entrees - think 'have they forgotten us?' type lag. The manager brought them out, telling us to be careful of the heat of the plate. That always means the plates were under the warmers longer than necessary. My husband's plate was in fact, really warm - warmer than his $50 steak. My halibut, not actually crusted with panko and pesto, but rather topped with it - was also luke warm at best. It was a true disappointment. We mentioned it to our server, who apologized. While being served desert, the manager offered us each a glass of port - as recompense for the the dinner. We appreciated the gesture, but would have preferred a little more conversation on the matter.
All in all, I would recommend this restaurant. I am hoping our snafu was a one-off of a mistake.
My wife and I were continuing to celebrate our 40th anniversary. It was a wonderful meal and the staff was very pleasant and friendly!
It was good. Don’t expect a mind blowing culinary experience and you won’t be disappointed.
Distanced outdoor seating was charming and lovely. Food was incredible. I had the scallops and my husband had the duck - both some of the best dishes we’ve had in a while! Wonderful wine list. All around a pleasure and we’ll look forward to eating there again in the future.
Food was delicious, we had the duck and scallops. Staff was very friendly.
Quaint hotel as a backdrop (we stayed there)
Nice ambiance though outside due to Covid
Michelin rated restaurant and easy to see why
Food came in small portions but so complex and the taste was amazing
We had cauliflower appetizer, scallops and lobster special
Chocolate desert was excellent
Highly recommended
We enjoyed our dinner. Being just in town for a couple of nights, and looking thru the local magazines, santa Inez Valley, I saw you’r food pictures and was very excited to try what I had seen in the magazines. When we were seated for dinner, I asked about the dishes I had seen & even showed the host pictures. But I was told those were from a while ago, and they did have that for the night we were dining there. I was quit disappointed. So it would be nice to continue your menu with what is advertised, or update your pictures.
Small menu, but everything we tried was spot on amazing. Interesting pairings of flavors and textures. Such a cute restaurant, well deserving of the Michelin Star they earned.
We had a friend in our party with an almond allergy, the chef brought out a special version of the cauliflower without almonds just for her. Loved this attention to the customer!
Great ambience and service. Enjoyable dining spot. Corkage fee really got us. 30.00 was way over the top. Small app. Had the beet salad. Could have been double. It was very tasty. Duck was good. Not great. Pasta with scallops was superb. We did not get duck wings which they are known for. Probs my should have. Good restaurant. Happy we went. Great waitress!
Wouldn’t waste my time with this one. Who ever gave them a Michelin plate must have been high and hungry. Food was below average. Wagyu tenderloin was over cooked and was so tough it could have doubled as shoe leather. There are far better places to eat in this valley than this. We won’t be coming back.
So sorry to hear you had a less-than-perfect experience! I can safely assure you, an over-cooked Wagyu tenderloin is not the usual fare for us, and having it compared to shoe leather is certainly a new one. Would love the opportunity to show you why someone gave us that Michelin plate; please forward me your contact information so we may hopefully change your perception!
Great food and service, restaurant is compensating very well with seating restrictions.
Beautiful restaurant. Hefty prices for tiny portions.
I am sorry we missed your fiance's birthday. A complete oversight on our end, I will address this to ensure this doesn't happen again. We are thank you for your patronage. Our prices are related to the product we purchase, organic, local & hyper fresh. By supporting small farms & fishermen the cost may be higher, but this supports our community. Our cooking process is not simple, it requires many hours to make our food interesting & unique. A taste we hope you see is worth the craftsmanship.
Even dining at curbside, 1st and Oak is stylish and upscale. The food is innovative and drawn on impeccable ingredients. Service was excellent.
Very nice, food was amazing.
The food was amazing!
Would highly recommend
Without a doubt the best meal we had in wine country. The kimchi cracklings are a must, and the duck and scallops were both to die for. The experience was worth every penny!
Great food, wonderful service
