Good family place, not fancy but clean and good food.
Had a fun evening with my friend and his family. Our waitress was attentive and very accommodating to all our requests.
The food was below average. The beef was poor quality and over cooked to the point where we couldn’t eat it. The drinks were good, and sushi was average but we won’t return.
Small portions. Tiny sushi. Not impressed. I recall their restaurant in Brookline which I remember was very good. I probably won’t be heading back anytime soon. The Tokyo Steakhouse around the corner has good sushi so that’s my recommendation. Maybe they can improve but for now I think they need to do a reset at that location.
I wouldn't dissuade someone from going there but I wouldn't go out of my way to recommend. The food was good, the services was awful.
Food not good
Better food now, but it’s been awhile since my last review. Service is OK. There are better sushi places but this one does overall very good fusion version. Not sure I’d want to return but that’s how I felt after my previous visit... In any case, I go there because it’s within walking distance from my house. Good selection of Sakes. One thing is for certain if you’re coming late, they are trying to get you out as soon as possible- not a pleasant or welcoming service. In all honesty, one of the worst places for service I know. Perhaps, I should try a take out
Food has been good every time we’ve been. Little disappointed that entrees didn’t all come out at the same time. Maybe 5 minutes in between first and last entree. Service fine.
There was one lady hostess taking care of phone orders, greeting and seating guests; and one waitress taking care of all the tables including taking orders, serving food, running bills etc. It was a slow dinner. Everything was slow and they charged for me asking for some vinegar. Better to go to Oishii.
Food was decent, albeit not the 4 star artistic and gastronomical experience one would have expected from 4 stars. Service was also decent. Overall, a fair value.
Maddeningly slow sushi bar. The food was great, but we were more than ready to leave by the time we actually received it. Requested drink refills never arrived. It was a holiday, but the restaurant did not seem exceptionally busy.
We liked this low key restaurant a lot. The sushi was fresh and the rice was cooked properly. Lots of interesting choices. It not one of these open spaced places where the sound echos everywhere. I wish Japanese restaurants were a little more creative with there beer selections.
Everything was great and the food was too!
Very average service with better than average sushi and ok interior. Not what it used to be.
The food was beautiful and flavorful. The sashim was the best I’ve had, it rivals Montreal. They also make a perfect martini!
Gari has been consistent in their quality and level of service. We visit regularly for some good Sushi and other typical Japanese dishes. Bi Bim Bop too.
Always happy going to Gari. Wonderful sushi and they are the kindest people!
Delicious sushi!!! Friendly staff. This is a family favorite.
Little surprised at how empty the restaurant was on a weekend evening. Nice menu. Server was very attentive. Appetizers (dumplings and calamari) were both good. Sushi was good. Kids loved their noodle dishes. Will be back
I’ve eaten here several times and the food is good. It’s just not great. I did very much enjoy the miso soup. I’d give it 4 stars. Edamame was okay. The roll I had was good. See the pattern? The wines on their list did not rate very high in Vivino. 3.1-3.6. I generally try to get a wine closer to 4.
After discovering they weren't kid-welcoming a few years ago (no crayons permitted to dirty their tables - despite our table being covered in about a dozen gouges that looked like cigarette burns), now that our kids are a little older we decided to give them another try. Food was pretty good (chicken overdone, and yellowtail maki was ground up not a whole piece). We'd consider giving it another try - though might give better instruction to the chef.
Went there as it was the closest to me...Worst Sushi I have ever had.
We always enjoy having the opportunity to find the time to eat at Gari.
Really good food and friendly service.
Excellent sushi, very fresh. Service is friendly and prompt. Try the extra spicy tuna!
We looked for a Japanese restaurant close by and found Gari on Open Table. Got there early (5:00) and it was very quiet, which was great for us. The menu was extensive and the service was excellent. They were very attentive and provided good cocktail recommendations.
Food quality was very good (seared tuna and Alaskan roll). Ambiance is nice as well.
Will definitely go back.
This restaurant is a gem.
Great and creative menu with a lot of options to try.
Looking forward to returning soon.
Gari has delicious food. Granted it was Mother's Day but the service was abysmal. We waited over 30 minutes for our reserved table. The hostess barely looked at me while she attended to several take-out customers. My elderly parents and I were forced to wait in a crowded space while servers had to constantly ask us to move out of the way. We were never offered a drink or snack as we waited and waited. We did not receive food until 7:30 ; our reservation was for 6. Although the hostess was apologetic--I felt we were not treated well. My recommendation is to order out and avoid the terrible service. We even had trouble getting our waitress to accept payment. We absolutely deserved better. A minimal gesture like offering us tea or a quick snack immediately upon sitting would have made all the difference. I will not tolerate a restaurant that makes you feel like they are doing you a favor by allowing you to spend money at their place. I can't imagine going back.
Tried to take the family on Mother's Day, big mistake. They took more bookings than they could handle. We waited for 45 minutes after our reservation time, and still were not seated, and seemed to seat one group ahead of us that had the same reservation time and arrived after us. Service was obviously slow at the tables too, so we said forget it, and went elsewhere. The food may be great, but they need to do a better job of handling crowds!
We love it here! Excellent sushi. Great variety. The volcano roll is a must. Best we've ever had!
The people are nice enough, food, however, was very sub par.
This was our first trip to Gari and it won't be the last. The food was simply wonderful and at a good price point. It was not very busy for a Saturday night but then again - we didn't go till 7:30 and there seemed to be a lot of take out. Its to bad because this is sooo much better than other Japanese Fusion places around the Metro West area and its very easy to park. The wait staff was friendly and we lucked into one of the best waitresses I have ever had - anywhere. She was knowledgeable and patient with our questions - she was smiley and bubbly and truly made a fantastic evening even better. This was definitely a find and my thanks to Open Table because that is how we found it!!!
First time at this Japanese gem. Amazing sake' options. Great selection of side dishes including seaweed salad and ohitashi. Sushi was fresh and well presented.
A lovely dinner with a group of 7 ladies. The service was discrete and polite, the food delicious and the wine selected was very tasty. The value for money was great, very well priced. We'll be back.
Nothing was bad, but nothing was truly excellent, either. Won't be going back again anytime soon. The miso soup was tasty.
The food was excellent but we were surprised by the elegant presentations, usually found in more expensive restaurants. We plan to become regular dinners at this place.
A good place to go in this neighborhood. Friendly service. The sushi was 4 stars. Gyoza wrappers a bit thicker than optimal. Soba soup was a bit bland. Stir-fried udon was good but very smoky (one of us liked it, the other did not).
They have good and reasonably priced sushi. Very friendly service.
the food was very good ;)
loved the seaweed salad.
I enjoy Gari Japanese food. The atmosphere is pleasant, and it would earn 5 stars if the entrees included salad and/or miso soup, which they do not. As a result, the effect is pretty pricey, eating a sushi entree, which is a light item, and then we always feel we need to purchase an additional item like a salad.
Great food and service, would recommend this restaurant to anyone 👌
