The food, ambiance, server, and the overall experience was better than memorable!
It’s not the easiest place to find but it was phenomenal.
I love eating at Gola Osteria. Food (especially the mozzarella) is terrific. We go early to avoid the crowds when the noise level goes crazy. One disappointment was that I took my friend for her birthday, and called a few hours ahead and asked to put a candle in her dessert. Although they said they would, it wasn't done. Dang. Other than that, I'll eat there again and again.
Went here on a date and had a really lovely time. I made a reservation for a table on the patio. We arrived a few minutes early and were seated immediately. The patio was dark and relatively quiet (very conducive to conversation), secluded from the noise inside the restaurant. Our waiter was friendly and helpful regarding both the menu and the wine list. I ordered lamb chops and my date ordered veal parmigiano. Both were good, though my lamb was slightly over-done. The portions were also very different. The veal was an enormous portion of both meat and pasta, while my lamb chops were a fairly standard portion (4 chops with seasonal veggies). Our appetizer really stole the show- Arancini with house made ricotta, crispy and delicious! Overall we had an excellent time and will almost certainly be back.
Michael provided excellent service, all of our food was great and perfectly prepared. I would recommend to anyone.
There are certainly things about Gola Osteria that are terrific. The pastas were very good - and worth going here for. I was, however, disappointed with the eggplant dish - the flavors ran together too much and the quantity was very small. The side salads we ordered were nothing special - though the burrata *looked* good, the beets and salad with beans and potatoes were underwhelming - served too cold and the beets could have roasted a bit better to bring out the flavors. Service was good, and the ambiance decent - except for the constantly slamming door going to the patio. That really was annoying. Overall, I expect better for the price. I may go back and just be more selective - and make sure the slamming door is fixed before we visit again.
The food is awesome!! If you love authentic Italian food, then Gola is your spot!
I have been before and previously loved it. This time, I had a terrible experience. Our appetizer was completely burnt so we sent it back and they replaced it, even though our waitress made a snarky comment about it as if we don't know what "grilled" food looks like. This was charcoaled. My entree of mussels reeked of fish and tasted like the ocean. Couldn't eat it. My boyfriend ordered pasta with seafood. There was barely any seafood in it and the pasta lacked all flavor.
We have lived in Ithaca for over 30 years, and Gola Osteria provides the most pleasurable dining experience in a town full of enjoyable restaurants.
Food was good, but honestly, not great. Coming from NYC, the price to value ratio isn't so good Spent $200 for three people with a $35 bottle of nice local wine. My favorite was the bruschetta and the octopus appetizers. My black spaghetti was good, but not exceptional. Same for mussels. The server was very nice and served quickly, as requested. Was a quiet night and we sat outside. If you have tons of money I'd recommend. If not, no.
Great waiter - Greg. Very knowledgeable, helpful and pleasant. Out door dining vey nice on summer evening. All the food is so tasty and fresh! Love Gola!
This was our third time at Gola. Sadly, things were not well crafted. All the salads were shockingly over-vinegared although the ingredients were fresh. Portions were enormous and over-sauced and salted. Overall, nothing showed a skillful hand in the kitchen. They would do better serving less with more care.
We love dining at Gola Osteria whenever we are in the Ithaca area. The food is delicious and innovative and the service is great. I was born in this building when it was the old Ithaca hospital...so, I guess I could say that I had my first meal here? I have also had some of my best meals here at Gola! Delicioso! Thank you.
The food was very good overall, though a few dishes were on the salty side. Only real problem was the server being way over-extended and preoccupied; we were ignored much of the time. We ended up never getting our bottle of wine (would have come in time for the dessert) and waited way too long for our final check, etc. She was apologetic and nice but harried and stressed. Not so great.
Food was super - there was an very obnoxious table on the patio making a huge amount of noise. Our business mtg didn’t happen because we couldn’t talk. It would have been nice had the wait staff addressed it
We just will not go back - the night started out not right and never got better.
Absolutely delicious and the Sunday family style special was a great value!
We have never been disappointed in our dining experience at Gola Osteria. The quality of the food and wine far surpasses any of the other restaurants in our area. The wait staff is are well trained and the decor has a wonderful relaxing ambiance. We love this place!
Great food in a unique location. Would definitely eat here again! 😸
We were looking for great food on an unexpected trip from Long Island to the Southern Tier. Gola Osteria had great reviews, which turned out to be right on point. The restaurant is warm and beautiful, the staff is knowledgable and very friendly. Many of the ingredients were locally sourced, like the blueberries, which were incorporated into seasonal dishes and cocktails (try the blueberry mojito); and of course the tomatoes. The pasta was made on site, and served al dente--I loved the tagliatelle bolognese. They had great signature drinks, a varied wine list, and an interesting assortment of spirits (you can't sample Pappy Van Winkle everywhere, but you can get it here). Gola Osteria was reasonably priced, especially if you're used to downstate tabs. The parking and entrance were a bit confusing, since it's set back in a college apartment complex, but it could be solved easily with better signage. Overall well worth the trip, and we will definitely go back.
Fabulous authentic fresh delicious!
Go to enjoy, not if you’re rushed for time.
Fabulous octopus and pasta!!
This is my go-to restaurant for elegant dining at high moderate prices. Level of service is high--food is always spectacular. What an antipasta plate!!
Food was ok not special at all, over priced with no correlation to presentation or quality.
Unfortunately, not our choice for another time!
Although we have dined here before, this particular trip was not planned. However, we were easily accommodated on the patio—perfect night for outdoor dining. Our server, Greg, was exceptional. The food was also outstanding. The pasta special, the bucatini, was flavorful and the gnocchi are amazing! We always recommend the restaurant to any of our friends who pass through Ithaca as well. Wish we lived closer!
This was probably the 4th or 5th time we have gone to Gola Osteria for dinner in the last 5 years, we have never been disappointed, instead the restaurant continues to exceed our expectations. They had reworked the menu since we last ate, but it didn't matter because it was still a situation where I felt like I could have ordered anything on the menu and been pleased. We had appetizers, dinner, desert and an excellent bottle of wine. It can be a little challenging to find the entrance the first time, but it is definitely worth the experience. Sit on the patio if it's pleasant out, it's a little quieter. Have a great dinner and evening.
Recommended by friends who lived in the area. Went with a group of 8 people. Hardest thong to do was find the restaurant. Once we did, we were very pleased. Excellent food, knowledgeable, pleasant, efficient service. They accommodated several of our party who had "food issues" cheerfully and without difficulty. Would definitely go back.
Food was amazing. Heirloom tomato caprese salad and grilled octopus appetizers were the best we’ve ever had. Chicken Parmesan was a delicious classic. Wait staff was fun and pleasant. Would definitely return!!!!
43rd wedding anniversary!
I knew that Gola Osteria would make it special and the restaurant, chef and wait staff did not disappoint!
They NEVER do!
I have dined all over the world and it still amazes me that one of the finest establishments that I have ever dined in ...is only 45 minutes away!
I true gem and destination restaurant.
Anyone who has ever gone there knows what I’m talking about!
Hidden away ...and you have to be literally buzzed in to enter..and then find it in the maze of the back halls of a nondescript building ...like you were entering a Prohibition speakeasy!!
Yet...it is always full!
That ...in itself..is testimony to how very special this place is!
Can’t wait to return!
Great evening! Food is wonderful, ambiance lovely and service terrific!
This was our first visit based on a recommendation from the innkeeper where we were staying. The food was delicious and our server Michael was a delight! He really made our experience special. We would highly recommend this restaurant. Ask for Michael!
Having gone when they had just opened and after that one more visit was made and we had a great experience, the food was very good. The most recent experience the food was sub par for the price charged. The salmon was average at best, the steak was not of the quality had a year ago, the salad was dressed with an overly aggressive lemon based dressing, however our server was outstanding!
Received table of our choice. Warm, friendly staff and waiter. We were assisted with menu choices and drinks.excellent dinner! Whether I’m hungry, or just wanting a light meal, each visit to Gola exceeds my expectations.
Pleasant surroundings. Great service
Chef is creative and food was outstanding. This restaurant will be our go to place whenever we are in Ithaca
Good food/service atmosphere loved it all. Really friendly staff
Although a bit difficult to find at first, and parking being a slight challenge, although once we were inside we were told we could park anywhere, we arrived to the slightly understated restaurant. We were promptly welcomed by our waiter who was very upbeat, informative and quite jovial. We ordered drinks and settled in. I opted for the Chicken Parmigiane, my husband ordered the Sausage Lasagne and my daughter ordered the Squid Ink pasta. Warm Foccacia came first with olive oil to dip and it was wonderful! Next came our entrees and they were all delightful! My Chicken entree was huge! The chicken was tender and covered in a lovely sunday sauce, topped with mozzarella and parmagian accompanied by a side of spaghetti. My husbands Lasagne looked wonderful and again the portion size was more then adequite. My daughter thoroughly loved her pasta. As the meal ended, we looked at the dessert menu and unfortunately were not terribly impressed, so we went elsewhere. But we were pleased with our meal and will return again sometime!!!
The venue location and ambiance leaves much to be desired for an upscale restaurant. The appetizers were the best thing of the experience. The main dishes left of sort of wanting. Would we go back? Probably not.
A wonderful dinner!
Sam is the best Italian chef in Ithaca. What's more, he's sincerely amiable. HIs passion for food is evident in every choice he makes and every dish he creates. I always choose one of his house-made pastas and have never been disappointed. Many of the servers have worked there since Gola opened, which tells me that it's a good place to work--just another reason to keep us going back. It's our favorite restaurant in Ithaca.
