The restaurant had a very nice layout and we had a great table with a large window where we could watch the very busy hotel next door. The decor was calming. My daughter loved the fettuccine Alfredo, caprese salad and the calamari was great. Enjoyed the hamachi and salmon sashimi, all the gunkan, oyster and uni shooters (I topped it with a little of our sake!) . Also, the fresh oysters were one of my favorites I've had in quite a while. My husband and I went for an early Valentine's day celebration. Would definitely recommend but be ready to spend $$$. 6 course prefix menu includes a dessert entree $125 per person. Add another $125 per person if you want wine pairings... easily $500 at least... we also had cocktails prior and additional after dinner aperitifs. All excellently concocted! We celebrated my wife’s birthday at La Mer. First of all, the setting is stunning. It is a beautifully appointed decor with traditional Hawaiian wood carving. The large open windows have a beautiful view of Diamond head and the beach. This restaurant is one of three restaurants in the Halekulani Hotel, a beautiful property on Waikiki beach. Just below is the restaurant, House Without a Key and they have live Hawaiian Music nightly, which is very soft and melodic. You literally feel like you are on a movie set filming in the South Pacific. The service was extremely professional and attentive. As every course was delivered, we were given a very detailed description of the creatively crafted cuisine. The wine list is quite extensive, leaning toward a large selection of French appellations. Great choice of half bottles. For appetizers, my wife had the foie gras, while my daughter and I had the escargot ravioli, an interesting broth added recipe, that gave it a soup like consistency. My wife had the lamb roast, I the Rouget (red snapper like fish), and my daughter the duck. Interestingly enough, my wife and I should have swapped entrees. I liked her lamb and she like my Rouget better. My daughter thought her duck was good, perhaps a 4 out of 5. Our server, Markus, was very professional and attentive. Food presentation is always outstanding. This visit featured an Italian menu. The choices were beef shank, pork belly or scallops. These may be authentic Italian, we don't know; but, no pasta? A veal parm choice would have been more inviting.
