The meal was stunningly good. Deep flavor in every bite across the six dishes shared by my guests and me. Will come back soon.
Superb, as always!
Certain menu items were delicious and executed very well others not so much. Lamb too tough to eat. When server asked at the end of the meal we nicely mentioned that the lamb was very tough, it had to be obvious as we didn’t eat even a 1/4 of the dish. She just said “oh really, it’s normally very tender”. That was it, no offer to recook or anything...just oh, not normally like that. So many choices in Philly. We still had a nice time but skipped dessert and went to another place for dessert and coffee.
All categories were great artic char was hit entree brownies with ice cream great dessert. All apps were great
Parking was very difficult. Started the experience on a negative note after 20 minutes of circling the neighborhood for a spot.
Once in the restaurant, food and service were great, though. Very nice atmosphere. Really enjoyed the meal. All four of us thought it was great. Excellent flavors. Wonderful sauces. Decent portions. Great desserts. Loved the simple menu. BYOB was a real plus, too.
Unfortunately noise level is high. Amazingly high and at times annoying for such a small place. Common problem in Philadelphia, in our experience, though.
Would visit again. Got high praise from other friends, which is why we chose it initially. They took an Uber there so did not experience the parking issue. Wish we considered that!
Abigale was superior. Made the entire evening perfect. From the first impressions to the main course, everything including the staff was wonderful.
Food was very good and inventive. We tried all of the starters and everything tasted good. The only negative was that they seemed to all taste similar to each other.
Without a doubt one of the best restaurants I've been to in Philadelphia. Service was fantastic, food was incredible, atmosphere was phenomenal. I will definitely be back and I'm telling everyone I know to check it out.
Helm is a great neighborhood BYOB.
This was my third time dining at Helm. Always had an amazing experience. Food well flavored and satisfying. Great ambiance and friendly staff. Will definitely be back soon! Thank you.
We had a marvelous dinner for 5 people. We were seated at the window which was very cozy, and the food was imaginative and delicious, and the service was graceful. Highly recommend!!!
This is a lovely find! A great ambiance. The food is imaginative and quite good--if much too salty.
In my opinion, Helm is one of the most underrated restaurants in all of Philadelphia. The octopus appetizer was excellent, and the lamb ragu was one of the best dishes I've ever had. Service is always impeccable as well.
We had a fantastic dinner at Helm, the dishes were so interesting and delicious, with really creative combinations of local ingredients and even some foraged mushrooms. We especially enjoyed the chicken with latke, the flavors were just incredible. Smoked carrots were of course fantastic, and the octopus with balsamic and avocado was a standout. Service was attentive but not overbearing, and the atmosphere was cozy. The noise level was a bit high, perhaps something to dampen the noise slightly would be nice. But overall an absolutely wonderful meal.
Helm quickly became one of my favorite places when I moved down the street 2 years ago. My husband and I literally made this “our spot” and recommended it to our closest friends. This past visit was very disappointing. This food wasn’t right, the service was poor, the restroom was disgusting. I had the acorn squash where they kept the skin on so it was like chewing bark. My husband got the pork which was extra chewy and under seasoned. The polenta saved the day! It was so rich and yummy I should have only got that. We may give this spot another try but not anytime soon.
Consistently creative menu and dishes. Friendly service. Dined here repeatedly since it opened nearly 5 years ago now.
Among the best meals I've ever had. The staff is so knowledgeable and it's clear that everyone wears many hats. The food is beautifully presented, perfectly executed, and such a joy to eat. We will be returning at our first opportunity!
Abigail and team were wonderful! Unique flavors and perfect portion sizes. Dessert and coffee (reanimator) were delicious!
We have never experienced such a disgusting meal.
Over cooked, undercooked, and just a mush of flavours.
We heard this was a good restaurant.
They’ve opened another.. apparently the great chefs are there.
I wanted to put on an apron and step into the kitchen.
To the owner..
Get it back together.
I wasn’t the only one who hated the raw ‘hickory smoked grilled’ carrots !
Not as great as it once was the service staff are very accommodating and knowledgeable and I believe proud to represent the restaurant. The portions for the entrees are small the just lacked the panache it once had
Creative culinary combinations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Helm's pasta is delicious, and their gateau basque is one of my favorite Philly desserts - if not my favorite.
Too loud and service average
Helm is an awesome restaurant! Their super knowledgeable about their ingredients and their food taste amazing!
It was for my boyfriends birthday and we had an amazing time! The waitress was so personable.
Love and more love working my way down their entire menu
My wife an I drive to Philadelphia from Delaware just for Helm. The menu changes frequently so make sure that you get there quick to experience the turnips with bacon and horseradish. They were outstanding. The servers are always knowledgeable about the menu and super approachable.
Fresh, flavorful food. Probably the best pork chop I've ever eaten in my life! A neighborhood gem.
Helm was amazing! I had only been once before since their reopening and this time was a lot like the last time, amazing. We started with the oysters that had a frozen
Our first time, but certainly, not our last. The friendly greeting and banter on arrival, made us relaxed and ready for a fun evening. And we were not disappointed. We had a very comfortable, non rushed dinner experience. The food was beyond delicious and very original. We will return soon and tell our friends.
The food was amazing. We really enjoyed the octopus appetizer and the lamb was to die for.
Nice hearty meal and cozy byob
Helm was the perfect place for a special , yet low key and quiet date. The service was impeccable and our server was extremely knowledgeable. The food was impressive, unique and original. It’s a very seasonal restaurant with a farm to dinner table vibe. We can’t wait to return ! Also byo status makes it very affordable.
Loved everything about helm. The food was creative and delicious, the service warm, and the ambience fun and festive.
This is hands down my favorite restaurant in Philadelphia. So imaginative, fresh and delicious!
Amazing as always , do the chef tasting so you can try everything
My last dinner at Helm was slightly disappointing compared to my previous experiences. The oyster dish was a letdown, and so was the dessert (an ice cream sandwich that was nothing to write home about). This being said, everything else we had was delicious, and the escargot dish was simply fabulous.
We LOVED this restaurant. The menu was so unique, fresh, and delicious and the atmosphere was so cozy and romantic. Huge plus that it was also BYOB.
We enjoyed our meal at helm and would be interested to come back and try more menu items, especially appetizers!
When we arrived at 9:15, the dining room was almost unbearably loud. Our server had to shout descriptions of the menu items to be heard. Luckily, the noise levels dropped as the dining room emptied, but I can only imagine that earlier diners might have been shouting at each other to be heard for the entire meal.
The menu is so interesting. It goes without saying that each dish will include more ingredients than the main three listed on the chalkboard, but I was still surprised to find that the escargot, apple, and hazelnut starter was 70% fingerling potatoes with the listed ingredients hiding underneath. We were happier with the zucchini, steak, fontina starter– the melted cheese sauce is to die for. My main– white bean, brisket, cabbage– looked thrown on the plate, but was tasty. The mustard sauce was totally delicious, but there wasn't enough of it! The lamb main was fantastic, tender, and aromatic. For dessert we had the ice cream sandwich. That burnt marshmallow ice cream is genius– rich and creamy, with soft marshmallow throughout.
Great menu and everything ordered was great. Nice portions. A couple of large groups were there and it was very loud. Service with only 2 people was still outstanding. A definite return restaurant.
