Hofbrauhaus - Chicago
I love this place!!
We have been at hofbrauhaus for the last 4 or 5 Thanksgivings. This was the 1st year for a buffet instead of ordering from the menu. The buffet was excellent. The food was fresh with a mix of German and American choices. The band this year was not really a band but two people singing over canned music. Most of the time you couldn't even hear the singers over the music track. The only time the customers clapped was the 1 song the one singer played the clarinet. Otherwise they didn't even need to be there. Really not a good choice of a band. For the 1st time we were disappointed. Our server Linda was fantastic. She was knowledgeable and happy and nice.
Thanksgiving Brunch was excellent. Only negative was no pumpkin pie on dessert table
Energetic, with good food and service. A bit tucked away next to the expressway, so getting there and parking can be confusing.
Celebrated my husbands 29th birthday
Happy Birthday to Him! Cheers!
A few things occurred that led to an unpleasant and fair at best experience. The place at 4:15 was relatively empty , yet the zero smiling hostesses sat us in a darker side section. We asked for a table that was closer to the music, the hostesses seemed irritated. When they did seat us, we got a friendly server which helped. Unfortunately, she didn’t write anything down & forgot the water twice so we had to request it again, even almost giving out drink order to a nearby table. We ordered appetizers and again she didn’t write anything so didn’t give us the hot (warmed) cheese we requested.
If this is how disjointed they are when it’s not crowded, I cannot imagine how poor our experience would’ve been had they been busy. Ambience only thing besides the beer that we liked. If efficient service & friendly hostesses improves, maybe they’ll get return visitors.
I am very sorry to hear about the unpleasant visit you had with us over the weekend. I can assure you we are going to adress the sutuation in order to make things better for all guests in the future. We really appreciate your feedback, it will only help us improve. Please contact us directly so we can make it right.
The pretzel and beer cheese is a must!
We agree! Bier Cheese makes everything better! :)
Went for a later night meal with a friend. The atmosphere was good for someone who has not been there prior. Service was fine for 10pm on a Friday night. Band kept the crowd entertained.
Thanks for the kind words! Prost!
Really enjoyed the authentic german food and beer. OMG! Noise level at times was a little more than energetic. Sometimes difficult to carry on a conversation across the table but overall a great time was had by all.
We agree, the haus does get a little noisy with the large space and live band. Glad you had a great time! See you soon.
Always a great time and the food and beer is German authentic!!!!
Thanks for the kind words, Cheers!
The place was busy on a Saturday night which impacted the service. A server did not come to our table until 15 minutes after we had been seated. Then it took at least 20 minutes to get our pretzel appetizer. Our main dishes were not hot when served. My mashed potatoes were a little cold and my husband’s vegetables were undercooked and cold. The beer part of the evening was the beer.
Sorry to hear you didnt have the best food during your visit. Please give us a call so we can make it right for you.
first time but it did not disappoint. Brought my out of town friends and they enjoyed it . Food was what we expect if we were in Germany and it was fun
HB House is always fun. The beer and food are great. Prices are a bit high but not outrageous. The place is always loud so don't plan on much conversation.
I've been several times and have usually enjoyed the food and ambiance. This time, we opted for the black forrest cake for desert and it was not up to par. Tasted as if it had been defrosted -- why offer food that needs to be defrosted? Super disappointing.
Wonderful time sharing Hofbrauhaus with friends from Europe.
Lots of fun! I will definitely be back again!
We go annually for my husband’s birthday. I always get the vegetarian snitzel this year is was way over cooked. I am 11 weeks pregnant and was very hungry and I just ate it cause we waited a while for our food order to get taken anyway. I did not feel I could wait any longer to eat.
We had a party of 15 for Saturday night combination Oktoberfest/Birthday Party. We were treated like royalty by all Hofbrauhaus personnel. We have been to original restaurant in Munich and branches in Berlin, Miami and Las Vegas. This location has a very homey, family feel, and it compares to the original in Munich, thank you for everything, With much appreciation and affection.
Great tasting entrees & entertainment too ! The meals were a little pricey but delicious !
As always, food was great. The environment is loud but very enjoyable.
The evening we were there was the evening of Edelweis Dancers. So it was very lively, very cheerful. We enjoyed what we saw and what we listened to, as it was very entertaining. We kind of made it a habit to be in Hofbrauhaus during Octoberfest celebrations. We love the open concept of your restaurant. With high ceilings and everything it gives you multi dimensional view of the action going on around you. The Wurst Platter is my favorite which goes really well with your Octoberfest beer. We also shared and enjoyed the Giant Pretzel and really liked it. So this is a place which will always be in our list of options for good food and ambiance..
A Oktoberfest experience.
This was a fantastic experience and would definitely recommend!!!
Food, service, ambience were all perfect!!
I’ve been here a number of times. This time the sauerbraten and red cabbage were way off. Didn’t enjoy my meal at all. My daughter said the same thing it just wasn’t right. We just don’t want to chance it again. Very disappointed!
Always a good time. My kids love it there! There is always a band on stage.
1. they didn't honor the reservation
2. the food was pre-made and heated in the oven..the place was full, yet the food came in 7 minutes...visually, it looked like a pre-cooked meal that just got in the microwave...
Oktoberfest was a party for sure. Didn't love the food, and they had the wait staff stretched thin. But the band/performance was enjoyable.
Flavor of food was delicious but came to table cold! 👎 Waitress was not attentive & every time we needed something, we had to hunt her down. The ambience was much fun, the band was very entertaining & engaging.
Octoberfest is always a fun experience here. This time we were brought to a corner table in the far west part of the hall. This would have been fine usually, because we could still glimpse the band. But this time there was a huge group of tables celebrating a birthday between us and the stage. They had already finished when we were seated, but they continued to stand and talk around the empty tables for another hour and a half, so we couldn't see anything at all. The appetizers were fantastic, our entrees were chewy with slightly undercooked bacon. The beer was very good.
Great space. Authentic German food.
Poor customer service. Very disappointing.
I love this place place. Oktoberfest is a blast, until you have terrible service. Tom was the worst waiter I have ever had. 20 minutes just to get to the table. After that we had to call him over just to come to the table.
They need a German Band vs a band that plays some German music...
In 2 hours they played the Chicken Dance 'zero' times..?
The music was great.
The food.... while the red cabbage (rotkohl) was excellent, the grillhendl was extremely dry, as was the chicken dish of one of my party members. The Oktoberfest Bratenteller was squarely down the middle of the road with the sauerbraten being juicy, but the pork dry as a bone.
The atmosphere... the band is becoming entirely too loud, to the point of being completely unable to carry on a conversation. I have been in the Munich HB too many times to count and can tell you without equivocation that it is never that loud, because the emphasis is on the fellowship, the “freundschaft”. Even the Festhalles at the Oktoberfest are not as loud as what I’ve experienced in Rosemont of late.
Finally, as one of the original steinmaster club members, I’m very disappointed that there’s little benefit of being one any longer. There used to be occasional invitations to special events and keg tappings, but no longer.
Overall, the experience is disappointing every time I’m there. Why do I go? Because it’s still as close as I can get to being in the city I love, Munich.
We celebrated our daughter’s 35th birthday. I entered the special event on the open table reservations , but still had to tell the waiter when our daughter went to the bathroom. Don’t know what the restaurant doesn’t look at the reservations, but the waiter was fantastic and surprised her. And I didn’t get the open table points for the reservations. Is it because we used a certificate from Open Table? The waiter never saw a certificate from open table before, but assured us he would figure it out and he did. We will visit again, especially during Oktoberfest.
Fun, fun fun. This is a place to go have fun for a few hours.
