Il Vicinato Ristorante

I have to admit, by the end of the evening, all was great. On the other hand, there really was no social distancing, per se. Tables are packed in closely. I get it, but some of our dining party did not feel comfortable. This is a factor. Next, they had a guy playing live music. Ok, this has some benefits, but when the noise gets so loud that you cannot hear your dinner mates, this is uncomfortable. In fact, it was down right irritating. Nevertheless, the food was outstanding. We loved our dishes. The conversation wtih our server was genuine (when we could finally hear him over the din when the guitarist left). We would go back again...preferably when Covid rates drop a bit.

Food is just not the same. Ordered the Pasta Roger which was a favorite for over 20 years. It turned out more like a soup that how it used to taste.

We love this little place! Good food and great service! Benny our waiter was the best. The antipasto salad is delicious. The best pasta dish is their famous Pasta Roger. We can’t wait to go back and bring our family and friends.

Fabulous seafood with black fettuccine entree. Jumbo prawns, scallops, crab and lobster in a light tomato sauce with a hint of infused cream. OMG, best I’ve ever had! We’ve been visiting this spot for years. Always can count on a fine meal at il Vicinato, which is Italian for “the Neighborhood.”

The food and service never disappoint at this wonderful restaurant. I ALWAYS order the pasta carbonara, it’s the best I’ve ever had. The sauce is not overwhelmingly creamy which is perfect in my opinion. The service is always great, our server (Chino) was great at recommending a good glass of wine to compliment my dinner. I look forward to my next visit and absolutely recommend IL Vicinato!

Wonderful food and staff a must try restaurant

The server didn’t take us seriously, acting as if we wouldn’t have the money to pay for the meal. It took forever to get water so we just left.

This used to be one of my favorite restaurants. Unfortunately, it’s under new ownership, and the new service leaves much to be desired.This is our second visit under the new owners and the service has not improved much at all. We may return because the food is outstanding .But service has so much impact on total dining experience . So disappointed .

Charming, old Italian feel. Intimate dining room, with the option to dine in the bar as well. My family has been coming here for decades, kids and adults, we all love this place. Food has always been outstanding, friendly, experienced servers. Could not give it higher marks.

Great variety of dishes and appetizers. All served quickly. Our server explained all of the questions we had very pleasantly. I"ll definitely be back!

Have been here several times in last few years. Always enjoy it. The food is always delicious. Specials are always hard to decide which to choose. Great basic Italian food. I highly recommend this restaurant!

While in Chicago we wanted to experience some good Italian cuisine and also get out of the tourist areas. This place was an awesome find! The asparagus and shrimp risotto was fantastic and so were our fish entrees. Our waitress was very engaging and fun to converse with. Next time we are in Chicago you can bet we will go back.

Il Vicinato is one of the small venue Italian restaurants in Chicago. Vibrant bar scene is great for opener cocktails. Dining room is a little loud, but very friendly. Good menu with daily specials. Everyone agreed our entres were outstanding. Service was exceptional. Had the feeling of a family run restaurant.
I hadn't been here for awhile, but will get back soon.

I really want to give Il Vicinato 5 stars, however the service was beyond slow and not good. It's a great neighborhood type of place and very authentic. The food was delicious and the portions were generous without being exaggerated. However, we went on a busy Saturday night. We made a reservation for 4 for 6:30pm on OpenTable, we arrived at 6:15pm, the host said they didn't have our reservation and tried to blame it on OpenTable, but since I had my text confirm, I showed him and were seated promptly. This was a sign of things to come . . . We sat there for about 30 minutes, without a drink order taken, without menus, without so much as a hello. We patiently waited and they finally took our drink order. Another half hour later they took our food order, 30 minutes after that we finally got our food. No follow up, no questions about what else they could get us. Thank goodness for the bus boy who pretty much acted as our waiter for the evening. We ended up finishing our dinner, requested espresso from the bus boy and left a little after 8:30. I don't mind having a long dinner when you're there enjoying yourself, but the length of this dinner was determined by a lack of service. With that being said, we were the lucky ones, there was a couple next to us, who left before they ever got any food and a 4 top opposite of us who only got appetizers and they had been there since 5:30! The waitress was apologetic and nice about it, but it just wasn't enough to make me want to go again. Lastly, I was annoyed at the fact that there was a rather large table in the back who aside from being obnoxiously loud, seemed to get a lot of attention and their food much more timely than anyone else (I think they must have known the owner, because the red carpet was rolled out for them, but no one else). Good food, bad, bad service.

Excellent authentic Italian cuisine....the best scallops I’ve ever had.
My only complaint.....few of the desserts listed on the specials board were available.

I just wish our waiter checked up on us more frequently. Also, the bar with sports n the TV took away from the ambiance. Otherwise, I really liked it!

We meet only 2 times a year and always come home to my roots as I was raised in this neighborhood. Il Vicinato has always been my favorite restaurant. We had a great time and will be back again!

My husband commented that the minestrone soup was one of the best he has ever had. We both enjoyed our meals of pasta, marinara, and sausage. It was a long drive for us but we weren't disappointed.

Lovely, charming, and delicious this place is a complete hidden gem.

Overall old school Italian restaurant with high quality food at a fair price. A little challenging to get there from Lincoln Park and there is construction on Western but all in all it was a quality experience. I will be back!

This place is a gem. Great food and service. Cannot go wrong with any selection, but the antipasto salad and the gnocchi are to die for. Do not say no to the bread basket, just don't, it's a carb cheaters dream.
