Jake's Del Mar
Ambiance was fantastic, as we had a table right at the window. View to the beach is beautiful. Our server was very attentive and fun. We would go back anytime.
Amazing food and beautiful view of the ocean.
My boyfriend and I had such a great time at Jakes for date night. Daniel provided amazing service, recommendations and made the experience enjoyable overall.
Excellent lunch menu selections, esp. the ahi Caesar salad. Our waiter Max was the best. And good for special celebrations. e.g. our waiter provided a candle on our birthday dessert cake. Great view of Del Mar beach and ocean.
Always consistent... great service... outstanding food... fantastic setting.
These folks have it down... recommend highly
As always we had great service and food with beautiful ocean views. It’s also kid friendly and we bring all of our visiting friends here.
Great dinner for anniversaries!
Outstanding in all areas..we definitely will be back!!
Great dining by the beach and sea.
Food good. Consistent.
Spare rib appetizer Fantastic!
Food overall excellent with a great view!
We like Jakes. Great service. Great location. Good food. I want more seafood options like crab and lobster.
Always a great spot for dinner.
Great wait staff and excellent food.
With it's great location right on the beach in Del Mar, Jake's is a long-time favorite of locals and tourists alike. The menu has something for everyone, including fresh seafood, hamburgers, tacos, and salads. A nice wine list has several good choices available by the glass. My companion ordered the Caesar salad with grilled chicken. I ordered fresh mahi mahi. The fish was cooked perfectly, served over a bed of spicy black lentils. The salad didn't impress, however, with a single grilled chicken breast plopped atop a bed of slightly wilted, liberally dressed romaine. Jake's is a member of a small restaurant chain with locations in Southern California and Hawaii. It gives the impression of a restaurant that rides on its fabulous location and laid-back surfer vibe. Go for the drinks (especially the Mai Tai). The food isn't quite as reliable.
Waiter was rushing us through dinner. Never offered to refill our cocktails. Cleared the table before everyone was done eating. Told us no Hula pie when I saw others being served. Then said the freezer broke. Portable bathrooms outside. Food was warm not hot
Solid as usual!
First time at this restaurant. Overall - impression was a restaurant that leans heavily on their location on the beach and the view.
No salt and pepper shakers. Asked for ice tea and sweet n low. No sweet n low in the sugar carrier. No ice in the ice tea.
Brussel sprouts were good -
Ordered the beet salad - this had a tiny amount of arugula in the center and no dressing on the beets. This was much improved by putting the Brussel sprout dressing on the beet salad. Companion ordered the clam chowder but turned out at 6 pm they were out of clam chowder in a seafood restaurant.
Ordered the mixed seafood pot. Always dangerous as often this dish becomes the repository for all the seafood the restaurant didn’t sell the night before. Seemed like perhaps my concerns were well founded. Pot comes lukewarm, a few shrimp, several pieces of mealy fish and a tiny lobster tail with some mushy sort of meat inside. Definitely in my opinion not worth $33. My wife had the brick cooked chicken. The chicken had white hardly cooked skin on top, visually unappealing, and the meat was hardly cooked. She wisely decided not to eat these two small pieces of undercooked chicken.
Desert was a huge piece of pie - but which was just a huge piece of ice cream with chocolate sauce poured on the plate and some whip cream squirted on the side. Uninspired -
But the view of the surf and beach goers was nice —-
I am not easy to please as a restaurant patron- as I eat out every night in restaurants. And It did seem that many other diners were enjoying their meals and the place was packed as well so others likely were pleased. For me
$150 for two people was too much for the amount and quality of the food on this particular evening.
Given their great location and view of the ocean from the tables-the kitchen seems too lean on this location.
We went to Denny’s down the street afterwards to get something for my wife to eat and by then I was a victim of the seafood pot as well.
Always wonderful at Jakes
Jake's, where we have dined many times over the past 40 years, would have received a higher rating based on our last visit for lunch on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at 11:30 a.m. except for one fact: The woman who is in charge of the door when the restaurant opens at 11:30 a.m. (perhaps she could be called the "hostess"?) has a very poor attitude. She is extremely unfriendly which is obvious immediately upon coming into contact with her and thus a very bad match for the person who first greats you upon entering the restaurant. Is she someone's girlfriend in management? Why in earth would Jake's ever hire her for this position. It sets a bad tone for the entire visit.
The waitress who served us after being seated, on the other hand, was very warm and gracious. I hope this helps to improve the experience at Jake's.
Ashley was friendly, efficient, and very helpful. Our meals were delicious. We had a great experience at Jake's tonight.
Then inner menus is limite and expensive for what you get. The food is only so-so.
The view is ideal.
The service nearly always exceeds expectation, as does the food.
The menu is seasonal and ingredients well sourced,
This is among our favorites
for celebrations and showing out of towners a
We also show up just for the heck of it.
Perfect place to grab a awesome seafood dinner with a view, great service and atmosphere
This is where my family goes to celebrate holidays and other special occasions. We 💗 Jakes!
Great Father’s Day Brunch. Yummy & Wonderful Ambiance.
Everything is good. The only thing I did not give it a 5 stars is that I requested for a window table but they did not offer this option to us.
We went for Father's Day Brunch, 9 AM, so it was not too busy. However, this is the second time I have been there when I felt the breakfast food was sub-par, so it will be the last time I go for breakfast. Our steaks were not seasoned and very bland. Fresh out of the freezer, low quality steak. My lettuce was wilted, the eggs were not seasoned. The Ahi and potatoes were good, but not worth the prices. Jake's has always had mediocre but decent food and we go there for the atmosphere and ocean view, but is not a breakfast place. I didn't expect much, but after spending $130.00 plus parking for breakfast for three, my family has decided we won't be going back for a while and definitely not for breakfast/brunch. On the bright side, we received some of the best service we have ever had. Our waiter was great and prompt.
We have been to Jake's for anniversary 3 years in a row, and we'll probably make it our destination next year too, just would love to say thank you to all the staff and crew and make it a special anniversary every time.
We arrived and gave my name and reservation time by Open Table at the front desk. Our table was 20 minutes from ready so we enjoyed the Bar area and had The Calamari with some wine. Very good. We were taken to our window seat in 20 minutes, Great Ocean View, where Oliver, our Waiter gave us Great service the rest of our meal. The food was very good. Everything about the experience was excellent. They even had a Birthday card for my date!
Great food and service!!!
Very poor service, asked for a 2nd glass of wine when my dinner was served, it came after I was finished so I refused it-still showed up on my bill but was removed. Had to ask for bread. Waitress never checked in w/us after dinner was served and I needed some salt. They were very busy but should have had enough staff to accommodate the crowd. I've been there for lunch many times, not sure I'll go back for dinner. Bar girl was delivering a tray of drinks to various people including my 2nd glass of wine. That should not be your process. I should not have to wait for 6 margaritas to be made. At many restaurants you order wine or beer and it comes instantly by any server who is available. Take a cue from "Culinary Dropout" in Phoenix, best service anywhere cause everyone pitches in, even when busy and they are very busy.
A fantastic location for a date. Always request a window seat and make reservations to enjoy the sunset, great food andas the wonderful ocean.
Great food and what a view. We were seated on a table with views of the ocean from every seat. Food was absolutely delicious. If you haven't been, then you should.
We had a fantastic waitress and great lunch. We are from AZ and always make a stop-off at Jake’s. Thank you!
The staff were very mindful of attending to a multigenerational family, very much appreciated, thank you!
Always a great meal and lovely view. Service was also excellent.
Showed up late for our reservation but they still kept our table. My wife and I love this red tiara and make it a point to eat there anytime we are in the area.
This was my first time to Jake's, my parents have been before and are on the mailing list. I was not impressed. It was my parent's 50th anniversary and we made reservations for lunch. They chose to sit us across from the serving station. Yes, the window view of the ocean is wonderful, but don't look the other way, the view and busyness, no thanks.
The food not fantastic. The beet and avocado salad sounded like a fresh choice, think again. The dressing has way too much mayo and made the dish heavy and leaving you with a distaste in your mouth. The same goes for the crab cakes, mayo city.
The limited, unimaginative menu surprised me. I ordered a burger to split with my mom and my french fries showed up barely warm. We were the first customers in the restaurant. Did you just seriously serve me fries from last night, or how do you explain that?
The key lime cheesecake was very sweet due to so much mango which I didn't know was something that comes with key lime, but it was okay.
I feel no need to return for an encore as there are better places to eat out there.
They gave us a card and a dessert for our anniversary! Loved it!
Best meal we’ve had in years
