My daughter and her friend really enjoyed the sushi after the Van Gogh exhibit.
Food was just not that great. Asparagus/beef rolls were so overdone, couldn’t eat more than one. Shrimp was too fishy. The rolls weren’t great. Not a lot of flavor
We had been there before, and liked it, but our experience last night was great. My girlfriend loved the Sake the server recommended (Black Dragon under Aromatic), and the Gyoza stood out among the edibles.
Our server from Romania was exceptional and very helpful.
Decent neighborhood sushi place.
I have been going to this wonderful restaurant for many years. The service is above good and the food is awesome. Roger, Aurora , Kitzia and MG Are like family. My grandson and I have celebrated his birthday there since he was 8; he is now 18 and in college. This is our family restaurant ❤️
Food was excellent. We tried new dishes and were quite satisfied. Tried Gyoza, Chicken Kushiyaki, Soft Shell Crab (amazing), and a number of nigiri and sashimi (fresh and excellent) apart from our entrees. Warning, I would rate the wasabi as a 10 in reference to heat (loved it). Rating it as a 4 because the wait staff was very slow but I attribute that to being understaffed. With that said, we will be back.
The fish in the sushi was very mushy and it smelled very fishy which is not normal for sushi.
The food was okay but certainly not the best Japanese food in Chicago. Our food all arrived separately so it made eating together a bit weird.
Always solid and a great treat! Nigiri l, rolls, cocktails, Japanese whiskey etc.
Food was good; service took forever. Tough to tell if this is COVID issue (if so, I empathize) or if this is standard operating for them.
I have been go to Kamaechi for 30 years food is outstanding service was the worst I’ve ever had.
It will take some time before I will return.
Food was fantastic, service was VERY slow with no communication to us, the customers.
This was the second time that we had to wait for almost one hour for our appetizer to come out. We were so tired of waiting that we couldn't enjoy our food. They need to improve a lot on this.
Had such a good experience! Our server was so kind making great recommendations and checking in. Everything was so good I have no complaints!! Spicy edamame was not too spicy but great flavor. The spring rolls were great too! We all got different rolls and shared all so delicious!! Drinks were amazing too. Definitely be back
Food very good, as always. However, only 2? Servers and 4 bidders? For the entire restaurant? Waited 20 mins for a server, and 42 mins for first piece of food. Restaurant should seat less people if it can’t get enough servers. Would have left but it already was late. it was 8:23 pm before food came.
The sushi was pretty average if not disappointing and took a long time to get 3 rolls.
My husband and I celebrated the start of my "68 Birthday," with cocktails and dinner at Kamahachi. We were both very satisfied with the service and our meals I had the Asian Lamb Chops that was so tender I could cut it with a fork, and delicious. We happen onto this fine restaurant because we had reservations to Zanies for a Comedy Show, and Kamehachi is located directly across the street. So, it worked out well for us.
Good place for fine dining! I gave it a "Five Star!"
Overall, the dining experience was great. A friend and I were seated in the upstairs dining area, and it being a Saturday night, several of the other younger patrons were very loud and boisterous at nearby tables (rather "over-served" with Sake perhaps). Not the fault of the restaurant, but it did detract from the ambiance a bit...thus my reduced rating in this category.
Nonetheless, the food, the service and the price were outstanding.
Great sushi. Service was good.
Night out with my 2 sons!
Awesome food as always but service a little slow and I believe was lack of staff
Everything was fresh and excellent! Really enjoyed the sashimi and sushi rolls.
Normally love this restaurant. It has great food and good service. This time the hostess was very cold, maintaining that outdoor seating was waitlist only even though we had made an outdoor reservation on open table. Knowing we were disappointed, the first thing she said to us in an unfriendly tone as we sat was that there is a 2 hour limit on our table. She must not have not advised our server we were there, because no one came to our table and I had to go up and point out that we couldn't adhere to the two hour limit if nobody waited on us. After that the server came, was delightful, and the food was delicious as always. I understand that reservations and service are more difficult during these times, but that means there is even more need for the hostess to have welcoming skills.
After a night at the Immersive Van Gogh exhibit, it was a nice short walk to this neighborhood gem. Wide selection of appetizers, great array of drinks, and delicious sushi! Would highly recommend this restaurant. Can't wait for my next visit.
Been the go to sushi spot for our group for a decade, including their previous location in old Town. Be it, nigiri, sashimi, or rolls you will have a great experience at this place. Order the big saporos, the agadashi and the omakase to start. After the sushi chef delivers his amazing pieces of sushi you have to get the green turtle roll for your "dessert".
The last time we ate at Kamehachi was March 13, 2001, the day before the shut down. Throughout the pandemic restrictions we ordered delivery many times. all your food has been excellent. Good luck to you. We will ne back. Please have all staff wear masks properly. It is safer.
The sushi was excellent. The presentation was on point and walking by the sushi bar, you can see the care and detail they put into every dish that they assembled. The service was not great however. The ambiance, cleanliness, and food was outstanding.
Great service and food. Extremely loud, boisterous, arguing and drunk couple next to us but them’s the brakes. Everything else was great.
The waiter forgot about our food for over an hour
Great food and great service. Some of the best sushi we’ve ever had. It was both my son and my birthday and the waiter brought us a gorgeous and delicious dessert. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.
Everything was great--food, waiter, timely and more. It was my birthday. They had a nice dessert for our table.
Table location just OK, mid traffic area, seemed to be just outside dining area, between dining and bar areas, couldn't hear music. Service was hurried, didn't come back to check, had to flag the waitress down to order more beverages. Too quick delivering food, couldn't understand what she said as she left the food. We had no idea which rolls we were eating. Not normal service this time. Food as usual was fantastic.
Delicious food! Great service!! So thankful they were able to get me in and out before my show!!
Incredibly slow service and we all got sick the next day.
Food is pretty bland. Not worth the price and i wouldn't recommend to a friend.
A fine variety of menu choices for sushi lovers and guests who may not be as enthusiastic for sushi. (But, of course, should be in a restaurant of this calibre!)
Consistently excellent food quality, at reasonable prices. Attentive, professional service which does not hover. Kamehachi sets the standard for us for sushi restaurants in Chicago.
There's a reason that this restaurant has been around since 1967. Food was terrific, tasted very authentic, and was reasonably priced. We had the chicken katsu, agedashi-dofu, spicy tuna sushi, and tempura green beans. Service was excellent, as well. Atmosphere was also just what I like: good background music that doesn't interfere with my ability to hold a normal-decibel level conversation.
All the food was quiet tasty, the drinks were fantastic, service was a bit slow, we ordered just a couple pieces of sushi at the same that we ordered apps and mains, but they didn't come until we were halfway done with the mains.
Server unfriendly. Wilted salad.
