Kon Asian Bistro & Hibachi Grill - East Greenwich, RI
The sad part is this could be a phenomenal restaurant! We sat at the Hibachi table and the soup/side order of brown rice were served cold, water glasses were dirty, food we ordered from hibachi was drowning in sauce and the chicken was tough. The level of service was just unacceptable in our minds as we waited an hour and 15 minutes just to sit down and another 40 minutes for a chef. Unless ownership and management change their attitudes this restaurant is in a downward spiral and probably won’t survive very long. It will be a while before we come back here and we will never do hibachi again, only sushi!
We didn’t get seated until 8:40, for our 8p reservation, followed by another 40 minute wait before the soup/salad showed up. The entree didn’t get served until 9:45 and that was raw fried rice (crunchy)!! Order some drinks and the first glass brought out to my wife had red lipstick in it. To end the evening the waitress pulled the plate from my 10 yr old daughter and boxed it up while she was still eating, thinking she was with the couple from the party sharing the table with us.
Thank you for accommodating our last minute 40th birthday for our daughter. She was so happy! The food and staff were amazing!
We loved the food, which was delicious! The prices are normal, and the service was fine, especially considering that it was quite busy for Valentine's Day evening. The menu is quite ample and varied. We also enjoyed the decor--the hanging panels made the place seem quite cozy, despite the high ceilings.
I'm not assigning five stars because of two aspects of our evening that marred our enjoyment: the space was both very cold and very noisy. We asked twice if the loud music (mostly hiphop) could be turned down a bit, and both people (maitre d'y & server) agreed, but the volume never changed. My husband and I (trying to enjoy our romantic Valentine's Day dinner) had to shout at each other to be heard. Alas, behind my husband, the large Buddha statue was powerless to calm down the fast, loud music.
I also shivered most of the evening. Maybe they need to keep the space quite cold for health reasons, because of all the raw fish going into the sushi? If so, it would be great to figure out a way to segregate areas so the dining space is warmer than the area with the raw fish. Perhaps the separate room with the hibachi tables are warmer, but the main dining area is definitely quite chilly.
I hope the restaurant takes both suggestions to heart, because the space is lovely, and the food is fabulous!
Food was just ok, service decent, clean restaurant but very drafty for booths. Cool cocktails but just very average spot over all
Good food, friendly service, clean place, not much else to say
Good service, great food
Headed a reservation for 7:00 , but didn’t get seated u til 8:00 and still waited another 30 minutes before they started the hibachi
I asked the server for a different sauce and it never came and he never came back, also didn't have a good command of the english language. Should have sent someone else over to handle the request. Service is one of the key elements to a pleasant experience.
The waitress was clueless and was no where to be found at times. And frankly, it was a Monday night with very few patrons dining! The appetizers did not come out hot (they should have) and she was no where to be found to report this to. The main course was just ok. The Moshi was not edible--- tasted as if it had been thawed and refrozen. Certainly NOT worth $50. Not sure I will return again---too many other good Asian restaurants
Booked a reservation for New Years Eve. I get that it is a very busy night and everyone was looking to eat out but they overbooked themselves and had people waiting over an hour to get seated at a table and for the hibachi. I had a reservation at 8pm and I didn’t get a seat till 8:45. The manager did make up for it by offering a free appetizer. The food was just ok. I had better Hibachi food and experiences at other places. The food was very salty but other than that it was ok. I probably won’t come back but it was just ok if anyone wants a review to base on.
New Year’s Eve
Our reservation was for 7:30 and we didn’t sit at our table until after 8:30! We had 5 little kids with us who were hungry and restless. We were asked to take a table and not to sit at hibachi...we declined and they told us we would have to wait longer even though a hibachi table is what our reservation was for. It was very busy and very disappointed in their lack of staying on time with their reservations. Clearly they were way overbooked.
The absolute worst dining experience I have ever had.
The food was good but service was slow for a late afternoon lunch.
Good hibachi. The staff was great and accommodating.
A neighborhood gem! Food is always fresh, good service and fairly priced. We come at least a few times a month
Always great. Owner / management is always a delight. Zach was our server recently and he made our visit extra special.
The food is excellent.
One issue was that the food did not come out in the order we requested (appetizers first then entrees)
Otherwise we enjoyed this restaurant and would definitely recommend it.
It took a while for our sushi to arrive, but otherwise the meal was awesome!
The service and food where outstanding.
Always great at Kon
Have eaten here before and the food is fine.
Problem I had was with accuracy of the service. We were short on time because were eating dinner before an event. Server forgot to bring out two of food items we ordered. I mentioned it but were so short on time just paid the bill and left.
The food was amazing and the habachi chef did a great job!
Quality of food low.
Very nice. Accommodating and helpful staff and management. Always super food
Background music too loud. Distracting. Are you a restaurant or a dance club?
My best friend was in town and we had a reservation for 730- we were not sat until 840. One of our girlfriends also never received her food so we had to cancel her order and she had to eat st our next destination. Although the food was good , not a good first expierence.
Sashimi was delicious. Grilled Salmon was a generous portion. Fantastic meal.
Great! Excellent food and service
Excellent specialty sushi. Our son has pineapple fried rice that was very bland. Service good and server gave good recommendations.
Food is good, had the hibachi. But did not enjoy the “entertainment” while preparing the food; chef was shooting saki out of a giant water gun into peoples mouths. Gross. Won’t be back.
Delicious food, entertaining hibachi chef, friendly waitstaff...an all around great experience!
Went for a birthday dinner and sat for hibachi counter service. Quickly sat by a very friendly host. Quick service for drinks and food orders. Chef came out very soon after soups and salads. Food was amazing! Great show and quality. Only thought would be for some type of birthday recognition. I mentioned on the reservation it was for my partners birthday and they even called to confirm the birthday dinner, but then no special dinner follow up. Otherwise, top notch experience!
The food was delicious, super friendly, helpful hostesses at the front door. Brought out our whole cake after dinner as we requested. Thank you! Will be back again!
