Was excellent food and service but the music was so loud - it was like being in a dance club.
The meals were very good. Couldn't complain. Tuna not overcooked and the salmon had a wonderful taste and both were presented nicely. Wait staff can hover a bit but not too bad. HOWEVER, the restaurant can become very noisy when crowded AND the choice of the ambient music is not something I enjoyed. Too loud and couldn't carry on a conversation. Still Kona Grill is good and I'd go back. Maybe in between lunch and dinner when it's quieter.
We lost power during the meal because of a storm and the staff were extremely professional and we were still able to enjoy our meal. Food was great, service was great. We're looking forward to going back!
Love this Place. The food is amazing. Isabela, our waitress was so wonderful and attentive. And because we were celebrating our son's engagement, the manager brought a gratis bottle of Champagne 🍾!
The food was great and the service was terrific. The noise level is ridiculous. On top of TVs blaring and pumped-in music at supersonic volumes, an open kitchen is a sometimes interesting idea, but the sound of pots and pans being dropped regularly wasn't very conducive to a pleasant evening. I couldn't recommend the place to anyone who wants to talk without screaming. Plus, younger people are always oblivious to these things, but hearing damage is cumulative and irreversible.
Food was good, server must have been new as he forgot the water, the chopsticks and gave me the wrong order. Also disappointed they no longer keep a few tables/booths near the bar for happy hour. The music was way too loud - couldn't hear anything but very loud music. I like music - and play it pretty loud sometimes - but when you want to have a conversation with your dining companion - you don't want loud music blaring so that you can't hear.
Went to Kona with a large group of girlfriends and we were very pleased with the experience overall. Our table was ready when we arrived and the service was spot on all night. The food (we had a wide variety including sushi, burgers, salads, and pasta) and everyone complimented their dishes... we even got a dessert and the portion was HUGE! Our drinks delivered and the ambiance, although loud, kept energy high. Certainly a place we'd make a return visit.
I enjoyed the sushi! It was fresh and tasty, however the American dishes were bland And came out room temp
Good sushi, the music doesn’t really fit the vibe, but everything else was great
Our first time at Kona Grill, and no problem getting early reservations on New Year's Eve. The food was quite good: Yamada & Rainbow sushi rolls, very good Miso soup, and an excellent daily special of Grilled Tuna and Salmon as an entrée. Really good seaweed salad, too!
The Earl Grey Old Fashioned was delicious. Contrary to some reviews, we found the sushi roll portions to be ample (5 pieces per roll), and the entrée was more than I could eat. We dined at 7:30 and the restaurant was quite full by 8:15, including the lounge/bar area.
Service was very attentive. The menu was peculiar -- an Everyman's Menu to include sushi, sashimi, cheeseburger sliders, beef tostados, pasta, onion soup, etc., etc. I'd have to be really finicky if I couldn't find something good here.
The décor is modern and attractive. The noise level is a bit high -- energetic rather than annoying. The Sushi Bar is authentic modern Japanese style. They also have an "open kitchen" (in addition to the Sushi Bar itself). Unfortunately, the "open kitchen" area looked more like a HS cafeteria line. But that's a miniscule thing to notice, and it didn't detract from the excellent meal.
Prices were about the same level as nearby restaurants of comparable quality and informality. Although we did not partake of the Sunday HH at the bar, those prices were _really_ good. :)
4 Stars all around. We'll definitely return !! :-)
Food was bland and overpriced.
Every meal was delicious, service was outstanding but few other guests dining at 9 pm. $$
Food and service were pretty good but not spectacular. I had the regular Poke dish. Presented very nicely and good size portion. I found that the two varieties of Sushi had relatively little taste, though perhaps not surprising that the price point for that dish.
There’s a lot I love about Kona. Great menu, I love the sushi, fab drinks, A+ kids menu and very accommodating to kids. Food is pretty good. I don’t love how loud it is with obnoxious bar music. That’s my main complaint and why we don’t choose it often — we have some people we dine with that can’t tolerate the noise.
Food was nice. Only thing negative was sushi with eil. The source was too sweet.
As always, the quality of the food and service were excellent! Keep it up!
Service was really slow and the sangria was gross. The avocado egg rolls and sushi were good though.
Good food, nice staff and very large selection. Could easily satisfy a group with varying tastes.
I really had a taste for sushi, but I wasn’t totally blown away by my selections; I was slightly disappointed. However, my co-worker thoroughly enjoyed his meal (non-sushi).
Seated promptly w/a reservation. Highly recommend their smoked Gouda fondu w/apples and pretzels -- delicious! Fresh fish of the day was prepared well and tasty. Shrimp Pad Thai was a complete disaster - inedible.
Attendants are accommodating, attentive and always smiling. the food, however, needs improvement. The salmon we ordered is a bit salty and the pad thai is no where near the taste on where it should be. Everything else is great specially the sushi's and the likes.
Good food. Nice ambiance. Decent beer selection. Nice outdoor seating.
I want to like Kona Grill more, but they just put their prices up for happy hour - used to be $3.50 for happy hour small sushi rolls, now $5 - good deal still, but not the best sushi I've ever had. In the past when I've eaten inside - have had some good servers, but on the patio - the past 3 times I've eaten there the waiter we've had on the patio has been the least friendly and helpful waiter I've had. I guess if you sit in the happy hour area you don't get as good service as if you eat inside in the other area.
Thoroughly enjoyed my experience. Appreciated made from scratch food.
Great place to grab lunch and adult beverage.
Good but too loud
Our two "medium" burgers were the most well done pieces of meat I've ever seen on buns. The literal smell of charred meat ruined my appetite. The chicken meal was fairly good though. Service was okay, but hard to compensate for the low quality food.
Happy hour specials are great! Some of the food was awesome, some was kind of average. A few items didn't list all of the ingredients, which led to some disappointment when the food arrived. Overall, good atmosphere.
The name, "Kona Grill," brings-up visions of Hawaiian cuisine and decor, however, it doesn't deliver on either expectation. They occasionally add Macadamia nuts as a garnish to a dish. Disappointingly there was no any evidence of mahimahi, the signature fish in Hawai'i from drive-ins to haute cuisine. They did have a strong sushi section with original offerings (voodoo) and large servings. I'm afraid it is not destined for a return visit.
Great! Food was excellent and so was the service. Celebrated a baby shower for a coworker and we all enjoyed!
Kona Grill was a great place for my lunch date with my friend. The waiter was very friendly and professional and the food was great!
Enjoyed a wonderful meal in this warm and inviting room. Poke bowl is a winner.
This is one of the best restaurants in Arlington. The food is delicious, and the service is excellent.
This is a large and varied menu. Appetizers were excellent. The fish special was also very good. The nut crusted chicken did not come out as well as expected. Sampled wines were good and we're reasonably priced. This was a Friday night and it was very loud.. Overall we had a very good experience that are likely to return when we come back to this area.
I love Kona happy hours, overall I think the deals at happy hour are better for the quantity and quality of food you receive.
My only negative has been with them not marking my reservation as claimed, outside of that I've always had a good time.
Good food and service.
Kona Grill is a very nice neighborhood restaurant for inside or outside dining. The service is very good and the food is excellent!
Food was good and the server was attentive while also giving us space to talk
We had a great experience here.... very good atmosphere; great waiter; good drinks but the kitchen had a bit of a hiccup. Two of us ordered the fish special-- steelhead trout and it came out Luke warm at best. (Had clearly been sitting around on a counter waiting for the other meals to be prepared) . The manager and waiter were great-- comped one dinner that got recooked but I muddled through mine and I was enjoyable-- but would have been way better hot.
Recommend it still though.
