It is one of the first wine bars in Northern California and is honored to have received the Award of Excellence from Wine Spectator magazine for the past 15 years running. Live music, seven nights a week is also a huge part of Friar Tuck’s. Friar Tuck’s is proud to be one of the oldest privately and family owned restaurants in California and now the Paige Family have become the new Proprietors to preserve this landmark tradition in the heart of Nevada City. Before there was a hotel, there was a saloon. In 1852, thousands of thirsty prospectors filled their glasses at the original Golden Gate Saloon. After Grass Valley was destroyed by a fire in 1855, the owners quickly adapted and sold whiskey and beer to loyal customers from a tent among the rubble the next day. A seamless flow from the bar to the dining room and outdoor patio offers our guests the perfect mix of food and drink. Enjoy a contemporary menu with the fresh flavors of California and a dash of Mexico, utilizing the bounty of our local and organic farms. The Golden Gate menu is updated seasonally.

    When I say this restaurant is the BEST..ITS THE BEST AROUND! The moment I got there I was greeted and seated promptly. When you just want a steak..this is the BEST place to get a steak. Always perfectly made correctly. The food top notch..the service top notch..everything about High Steaks is truly a diamond rating experience. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND High Steaks for any occasion. Simply the very BEST! My two quest from out of town were also very impressed with there experience of the restaurant. I celebrated my 53 birthday and I was treated to a very delicious chocolate moose cake and a lit candle. Very classy and I enjoyed every bit of it!

    Food is really good. We had the fried chicken and the salmon, both winners. But it's all about the Budino. If you get any other dessert, you WILL have dessert envy.
