Known for hearty breakfast, lunch and dinner favorites, its name derives from a gambling parlor sited in Congress Hall in the mid-1800s. Earlier still, in the 1700s, Elias Hughes operated a tavern for whalers on this site. It was the first tavern in Cape May.     Food was superb, as was the service. Asked for a filet to be butterflied well-done... it arrived hot, moist, and delicious. Service was prompt and food came out hot and very quickly.

    Steve our server came over took our drink order. He told us the specials and then gave us a few minutes. We ended up ordering 4 specials to share. 2 appetizers first one was a shrimp wrapped in bacon with a beautiful sauce. Was EXCELLENT. The 2nd was a Beef Wellington also amazing to taste. We also ordered a Duck Fries rice that came with a Duck Leg. That was over the top. We also ordered the grilled asparagus which was grilled to perfection Steve checked on us often during the night.

    We had a great time and sat at the bar, it was fun and the bartenders took great care of us! We enjoyed the butternut squash salad which was amazing! Our entree was the prime rib & it was delicious! Our wine & cocktails were amazing, we had a berry tart for dessert and it was yummy! Love Rare!!
