L’Antagoniste is legitimately my wife and I’s favorite restaurant in the world. The food is ridiculously delicious every single time. The service is impeccable. The staff, gracious, knowledgeable and professional. And Amadeo the owner is the charming, most gentle and genuine person I’ve ever met in the industry. He is the epitome of class. I love this place. It’s beautiful. Thank you L’Antagoniste.
Food was ok. Steak was medium+ when I ordered medium-rare. I informed the server and asked that the kitchen be informed as well. He asked if I would like to send it back, which I refused as I did not want to be wasteful. No manager came to apologize and nothing was taken off the bill. Strange to have to pay full price for something you didn’t ask for.
The wine recommendation was great, the food, hors d'oeuvres and the dessert were spectacular, plus got free espresso at the end with my dessert. Top notch!
Top notch French cuisine with a modern twist, in a chic yet warmly comfortable setting. Excellent service. An altogether delightful experience.
I like this restaurant, and I like its owner. But the service was borderline hostile. Getting a drink, some bread, eye contact with anyone was hard. None of the servers were welcoming.
The food was not as good as I remember. Technically good but bearing an air of indifference in presentation and components.
The room is nice and the sound level good for conversation. I just wished that I hadn’t felt the staff was doing me a favor by paying the scant amount of attention it did. The occasional smile would go a long way.
My partner and I don’t frequent this restaurant enough! And on our most recent visit, we learned that the restaurant has a new chef, and an all-women kitchen. But, we learned that after raving about the soup of the day, a simply fantastic carrot soup. Mainly a spicy purée, it had whole sliced pieces of carrot, toasted seeds, and what tasted like fried sage atop. Sublime. So after making rave compliments, we learned of the new chef. Bravo to her!
And then, that was not all. My other half had a hearty salad Niçoise. And I had the very popular duck with orange sauce. Just the right amount served with a surprisingly and refreshingly tasty sidecar of vegetables, flavored with a touch of white wine and butter. More mild than rich, but still delish. I appreciate the subtle touch in the kitchen along with affable service.
The dark chocolate mousse is not to be missed.
We love supporting our neighborhood restaurants and we promise to keep coming back to L’Antagoniste.
Great restaurant. Friendly and helpful staff and wonderful food. Can’t say enough good things about it.
I took my mom there for her birthday
We have eaten our Thanksgiving meal here tor the past three years (including today) but, unfortunately, we were disappointed with this year's meal. We found it tasteless, from pumpkin soup starter to the apple pie. The burgundy wine, however, was super yummy. Service, however, was great.
We stumbled over L'Antagoniste by accident. And what a treasure it is. First, the wine list comprised hundreds (!) of wines (all price brackets). Second, the food is perfect French Bistro fare. Cheese soufflé is to die for. Third, the service is super friendly and attentive. ---- What a gem
This is a lovely restaurant that cares about its food and service. The French bistro-based food was prepared with respect and creativity. It was delicious. Like a good bistro, this is a place conducive to conversation (whether intellectual or mundane.) highly recommended.
The best food with great services. We’ll go back again. Mondays are traditional French night.
Amazing place, the duck and the chicken special were both phenomenal. Don't skip dessert!
One of my absolute favorites. If you like classic French food but want it cooked in a fresh modern style, go and go often. You con't be disappointed.
It was our first visit and we will definitely return. In fact, we plan on going again tonight
I LOVE L’Antagoniste and have been excited every time to go and happy every time I’ve left. The dishes are of such high quality that it stands up to the best NYC restaurants despite being in eastern Bed-Stuy.
Terrific and creative French spot in Bed-Stuy with an elegant and fun interior and a lovely garden out back (even had fireflies!). Spectacular wine list with some great bargains at the top end, great service, and inventive well-prepared cusisine. i will be back!
We sat in the garden. It is very inviting an makes you feel like you are in a garden in France. The service is perfect - friendly, helpful and warm. Food was fantastic! Slight but welcome twist on some classic dishes. We went for my wife’s birthday but we will definitely return.
A true gem for the area. Nice, upscale spot for aspiring foodies and nonfoodies.
As always, a perfect experience. We love L'Antagoniste!
We had brunch for 8 people, the service was good and the food was amazing. Everyone was happy with their meal.
Lovely service and beautiful food make this a must-try. The menu is on the smaller side, creative touches like dill sorbet on the salad make even classic dishes stand out.
Kitchen closed from 3-5:30pm, yet there were 3pm reservations available on Open Table which doesn't work; 2pm should be your latest afternoon reservation if you want a full menu -- did not arrive until 2:30pm and kitchen closed by desert. Otherwise outstanding, fresh, local food very well prepared.
This is one of our favorite restaurants in our neighborhood. All of the wait staff are knowledgable, friendly and fun. The food is simply wonderful, the wine list excellent and the atmosphere a delight.
Lets see some Black poets and writers on your mural wall like James Baldwin or the like !
Awwsome as usual. Amadeus and his team never disappoint. Go and go often.
What an incredible restaurant. The food, service, ambiance are amazing. A Manhattan top quality meal at 2/3's the price.
L'Antagoniste remains one of our go to spots in the neighborhood. We go often and recently went for our 10th anniversary and found everything on point as always. Amadeus was on hand to chat with us and hand pick an amazing bottle of wine that was very reasonably priced. The perennial cheese souffle and new escargot appetizers were great, as were the steak frites and squab special. I'd highly recommend it to friends, foodies, and BK visitors alike.
Our party of 5's second visit was Mother's Day. The Brunch menu had many options. I had the pheasant special with spring peas, we also ordered the duck hash, steak and eggs and a pork belly banh mi. Everything was delicious! Our first visit was on a Sunday to try their pressed duck. We are hooked!
Consistently inventive and delicious cooking
Very welcoming-Staff went out of their way to explain things and offer suggestions and serve each course in a timely fashion
The Poulet en Vessie was UH-mazing 😍
Four of us went on a Monday. BYOB with NO corkage fee on Mondays!
But on to the food. We had two appetizers: the beef tartar was perfect and served with an egg yolk to be mixed in, served with thin sliced baguette toast brushed with oil. The cheese and charcuterie board was wonderful. Two types of pate, very good ham, three cheeses, pickles and walnuts, served with a more substantial dark bread. We also had a dozen oysters, two different varieties, served with classic mignonette and lemon. Only $1.50 each during happy hour!
We shared three entrees: the duck breast with kumquats and potato puree was a delicious twist on the classic duck a l'orange. Steak Frites was perfect. And (a special on Mondays only) we had Poulet en Vessie. A whole chicken cooked with sliced truffles under the skin, butter with herb, and (I think) cognac. The whole thing is encased, tied, and cooked (kind of like sous vide) in chicken stock. Presented to the table, the casing is opened tableside, then brought back into the kitchen to be cut up, with all the chicken juices (and everything else that went into it) turned into a gravy fortified with foie gras. I've never had anything like it. Unctuous, and a truly outstanding dish.
We shared four desserts, all of which were great. A pistachio parfait, a chocolate Baba, a meringue with mango sorbet, and a rhubarb tart with ice cream flavored with Turkish chile pepper! Amazing!
We all left, sated, smiling, and talking about when we'd go back again once the weather is warmer, so we could sit outside in the beautiful backyard garden.
I came here yesterday and was so impressed I said the food was better than Per Se in Manhattan. So I came back the very next day and even better food. It was amazing! I can now say it was better than the French Laundry!!!
This little place in Brooklyn is absolutely amazing !!!!!!! Forget Per se in Manhattan, this place is way better!
Amadeus and his team provide a first class taste of France in Bed-Stuy. An outstanding example of fine dining. Go and go often. Awesome.
Was my wife birthday, they take care of all detail to make feel very special, the surprise pistacho cake was amazing. Love this place.
Seated late, food cooked improperly, incompetent waitstaff
Really a terrific spot. The food was outstanding and the service was impeccable and very friendly. A solid wine list with very low prices for the options listed. Can’t wait to get back.
I love L'Antagonist, it is truly a gem in Bed-Stuy. We live around the block and I try to come whenever I can. The french cuisine is to die for and the service is unbeatable. Love LOVE LOVE this place.
