Le Canard Enchaine
Confit of Duck Over Concassee of Apple
Le Roasted Long Island Duck, Cassis Berry Sauce
French Onion Soup
Definitely the best place to eat in the area. Classical french cuisine with high quality in every course.
Really enjoyable with delightful staff, owner and delicious food
Outstanding! Perfect evening
Amazing. Delicious. Love it from start to finish.
Birthday celebration. Service was amazing, food was great, bill was super high as drinks are expensive here.
Dined here tonight with my daughter. They were quite busy for a Monday evening but there were many open tables. I had to request a certain table because they attempted to seat us right near the bar around many others.
The food was very good. We shared an arugula salad with endive and a warm lemon oil dressing which nicely wilted the arugula and plumped the dried cranberries. We also shared a roasted vegetable Napoleon with a basil coulis. We were surprised that it was chilled as it wasn’t mentioned on the menu but it was quite tasty. I had the branzino which was fresh and simply prepared but it was over a bed of Asian spiced vegetables which I thought was an odd combination. My daughter had mussels and frites. The mussels were in a delicious garlic and wine cream sauce and were fresh and delicious. The meal was accompanied by crispy French bread and butter.
The owner/chef was very friendly and attentive but the rest of the service was a little spotty. I had to pour our wine on most occasions, ask for water refills and wait 20 minutes for the check after requesting it
We would still return as I believe that the service might have been normally better and other items on the menu would be delicious.
Wonderful restaurant. Genuinely felt like France in Kingston. Excellent service, kept bringing hot bread and butter which we couldn’t resist, water glass was kept full by various staff all night. Food was exceptional. Highly recommend
Lovely on all counts!
Some of the best food i have tasted in NY! The foie grais and confit were outstanding and the creme brulee was the perfect way to end. Worth the wait, best french food i have eaten outside the country
We LOVE this restaurant and recently visited with long time friends who we’ve never seen this excited by a meal!! It almost felt like being in Paris! The food was AMAZING! This is the 2nd time I’ve had the Duck on Mixed Berry Sauce, others had the Cassoulet and another the Branzino which they all loved along with the appetizers and dessert! Just go there!!!
All good but amateur service
Wonderful meal every time!!
Wonderful service! Heartwarming staff and delicious food! I can’t wait to come back! The experience was delightful. Thank you!
Outstanding as usual. The food, service, and overall ambience are excellent.
The servers are all masked and safe distancing between tables applies, but it is the food that makes this French bistro a national treasure. From spectacular homemade French onion soup to artisanal crafted desserts, Le Canard Enchainé is an oasis worth stopping at regardless where you are heading. From customary French cuisine to the unusual, its menu always has options to make decisions difficult. Lamb shank, crusted salmon, shrimp Indochine, moules, every dish is a symphony of taste experience. Well worth the visit at every opportunity.
Our favorite restaurant!! Thank you!! See you soon:)
This is one of my top 3 favorite dining/lunch experiences in the Hudson Valley. Having spent much time in France I safely say that as an authentic French dining experience they exceed by a country mile most if not all of similar establishments I have eaten at in NYC. The Duck Confit is outstanding, their oysters superbly procured on par with the late great Aquagrill of Soho. I had their Boeuf Bourgingnon last Saturday which was excellent and not over salted as many are to cover up sloppy seasoning while my guests had the Moules and Lamb Shank. Both superb. I haven't seen Cassoulet on the menu for a while and am craving its return. During COVID times the table are well spaced enough that even the most skittish diner will feel safe.
Service was poor. We are tourists and accidentally walked in the wrong door (which was NOT labeled from the outside) and one of the servers rudely ushered us aside before slamming the door and locking it. Then muttering under his breath and taking big sighs he reluctantly walked us to the front of the restaurant.
Food was good. But service was lack luster. It’s a shame this place would have been a nice place to tell people about.
Amazing service and food. A bit rowdy guests but could not have had a better night!
We have been to this restaurant several times and it never disappoints. We had their special a 1 lb Filet and it was done perfectly and we loved the sauce with green peppercorns.
Put this place on your must go in Kingston
Started with beautiful blue point oysters served with the best mignonette I've ever had. Then foie gras with a berry sauce. Delicious. Our table had a salade nicoise, crab cake and shrimp special. All beautifully prepared and wonderful. Kind and patient service, a lovely sidewalk table on warm afternoon, and a tasty and reasonable bottle of chardonnay. This was our first trip to this gem in Kingston. We'll be back.
Excellent french cuisine that warrants a journey. Service also excellent, which allowed us to focus on enjoying the experience. Good pours of bordeaux for those who just want to have a sublime meal alone but recommend sharing this gem with a good group to have a little extra of everything
Absolutely outstanding!! Perfect combination of authentic French fare; an impressive and reasonably priced wine list; and romantic, elegant, slightly rustic setting. Jean-Jacques is the ultimate host and spent a ton of time with us. A personal touch from the proprietor almost always makes a favorable impact but “JJ” went above and beyond. We’ll definitely be back for all of the above reasons and also because of Jean-Jacques’ warmth and personal touch.
Great ambience, safe enviroment , amazing food and very special choices .
We went for luch for my birthday, I will have a good memory of it
I didn't like the music played. I've had this reaction in the past. at your restaurant. The music is too intrusive and not at all in keeping with the other fine qualities of the dinning experience. Some mello classical music would be better suited to the experience and digestion.
Very delicious food and ambiance. A bit pricey for Kingston but worth it for special occasions.
Amazing food and staff
This is an extraordinary French restaurant we were happy to discover this winter. Jean Jacque's menu is incredible, and the staff are exceptional. Highly recommend.
Incredible food and great service in a charming setting and relaxed atmosphere. Highly recommend the duck confit and rack of lamb! Great wine list. Perfect for romantic, special occasions. We'll definitely be back.
The French cooking is amazing. I especially recommend the cassoulet.
Wonderful dining experience. Ambiance and quality of food was remarkable. Best French Onion soup I have ever had. Dinner entrees rocked! Service was wonderful as JJ helmed the dining room making things perfect. Must go if you are in the area!
All the servers wear face masks, tables inside are at safe distances, and food continues to be delicious. Experience Paris in the Hudson Valley without needing your passport.
Food was great with the exception of the oysters. Service was ok. Everyone was a little rude but idk if that’s part of the shtick
We love this restaurant!!! The food is divine and everyone should at least dine here once and once you do you will definitely return!!!
Great ambience, wonderful wait staff and the Chef/owner is very personable.
Dependably classic yet innovative French menu with generous spacing and ventilation in a cozy atmosphere. Chef is top notch. Seasoned, longtime wait staff are warm and attentive without being intrusive. Parfait!
The service was top-notch! We both ordered the same meal, the Filet Mignon. Both orders came out incorrectly from what was on the menu (served fries vs mashed that were advertised). However the waiter quickly rectified the situation.
The sauce with both filets was outstanding. However the quality of the beef, especially my wife’s, was not up to our expectations, especially for $60 for a single meal. It seems as though her cut was incorrect and they passed off another part of the loin as filet mignon. I have never seen such a large piece of muscle running thru what was supposed to be a high quality filet.
Wine was outstanding but meal left us quite dissatisfied for the price.
This is literally the best French restaurant in the US!
We’ve been dining here for the past 15 years and Chef Jean-Jacques is maintaining a consistent high quality for so many years!
In fact we came all the way from NJ and stayed overnight just to have dinner here...
The French Onion Soup was divine, and the steak and fish, outstanding.
We took the Tarte Tatin for dessert which was amazing...!
In summary, great food and great atmosphere! We will be back!
