    Hostess was extremely rude and set a poor tone for the staff of an evening. No excuse for that at a 6:00 reservation before the busy dinner rush IMO.

    When I booked the reservation then a few days ahead of my date I called and requested to sit in the greenhouse room. They said that shouldn’t be a problem and put a note on my reservation. When I got there the requested room was nearly empty but the hostess began taking us to a different area. I let her know I had requested the other room since it was a special occasion, she pretty rudely told me her print out said this table (in the wrong area). I asked if we could go back to the hostess stand to double check as I had requested a different table and the area I requested had many open tables. She just straight up ignored me and wouldn’t speak to me or explain anything. If she had even attempted to explain why they were not able to seat us in the requested area I would have understood, but she didn’t. She was just rude and refused to explain or fix the error. The food was very good as usual but the customer service was awful. I understand if something came up and they weren’t able to sit us in the requested area, but she shouldn’t have been so rude about it and should have at minimum offered any explanation as to why instead of just ignoring me. There are too many restaurants with good food and good customer service to waste time coming back here.

    This is one of my favorite restaurants in DC. We always make it a point to dine here while in town visiting. The food is consistently fantastic! The complimentary bread basket is reason enough to go. They offer a variety of breads - baguette, cranberry walnut, etc. I had a peach bellini and Florentine quiche with the potato side. YUM! My husband had the egg white omelet with goat cheese and ratatouille which was terrific. Our server was quite knowledgeable about the food and beverage offerings. She also offered some locals advice for touring the area. Great tips!

    Le Diplomate was amazing! We sat outside on the patio and the weather was perfect. I had the Pasta Primavera and it was super good! It was pretty expensive though. I would definitely recommend it to a friend.

    The noise level made it difficult for us to hold a conversation but overall we had a great experience — a genuine French bistro in both ambience and food. I would return just for the escargot and the opportunity to dip their excellent French bread in the garlicky escargot oil.

    We loved the escargot and steak tartare apps. The steak Au Poivre was one of the best I’ve had. Beef Bourgogne was delicious as was the whole branzano. The last two with garlic spinach - also great! I’m looking forward to leftover steak and spinach tonight. The Baba Armagnac dessert was unexpectedly delicious- light and flavorful but not overwhelming. We got it by default because we were unimpressed with the dessert menu. The carafe of red wine was a wonderful blend that worked with all of the food. Our waiter, Roger, was great, as was the other staff who served us.

    We have been to Le Diplomat a number of times, but it is clear the quality of experience is slipping. This last visit was to celebrate a birthday, which I put in the reservation notes. The server seemed to have no knowledge of the note, but moreover didn’t ask whether we were celebrating anything. I had also booked a “standard” reservation (indoor seating), but we were sat outside in a sidewalk booth. It was a cold windy evening. Overall our server seemed distracted and reluctant to be outside, which I can understand given the weather. Food was overall good, though uninspiring. Surprised Le Diplomat continues to be ranked in the Washingtonian top 25 with so many other exciting restaurants to choose from with better service.

    Delicious food and amazing service. Unfortunately they removed the windows facing 14th street from the outside booths, so it was extremely noisy and dirty with the cars passing by, as well cold and humid because of the rain, very poor experience. They should put the windows back.

    We were so looking forward to our return trip to DC so that we could go to Le Diplomate. Other than our waiter Marino, who was friendly and efficient, the evening was a big disappointment. There were no tables available indoors and so we took what we could outdoors being told the cute little booths were heated. The heat at the floor level was minimal and not adequate to counter the wind and cold blowing through the windowless space. The Fois gras parfait, which we loved when we had it last, was pre made and served in a canning jar with a layer of jelly on the top. It was way too whipped and the fois gras flavor diluted. The coq au vin was two chicken legs and was tasty, but wished for some chicken breast too. The accompanying noodle was more fitting for a German dish than a French meal. The cheese plate had about a tablespoon or less of each cheese at $6.50 per slice. The wine was good, but a 300% mark up. All in all, if we come back, it will only be in hopes that things will improve, dramatically.

    1st visit, and nothing like the reputation. I had high expectations, and was disappointed. Nothing awful, but no one in our party thought the food was better than ok. Desert and Prosecco for a birthday was a nice touch.

    Our server Walter is outstanding! He deserves to be rewarded. And of course we rewarded him with a good tip. Food is outstanding. Onion soup is second to none! The foies gras is excellent. Trout is perfectly cooked. Beef is heavenly. Those bread and whipped butter are killers. We will be back for sure!!!

    Atmosphere of a Parisian bistro, top-quality food to match the warm atmosphere. Service started very well, but faded as the evening progressed, likely due to a nearby large party that arrived midway through our dining experience. The ambient noise was nice until a very loud party was swayed next to us - not Le Diplomate’s fault, and we did not allow it to spoil our otherwise excellent evening. We will be back!

    Everything was delicious. The bread and farmer’s cheese appetizer were both amazing. The steak frites and scallops entrees were spectacular. The staff was lovely and very attentive. The decor was gorgeous, and the atmosphere was electric.
