   The whole experience was fantastic from the delicious complimentary fresh baked bread, both appetizers (highly recommend the steak tartare paired with the mushroom soup), the entree (moules frites) and the mouth watering finale of the crème brûlée for dessert. The ambiance and service was also phenomenal — loved the jazz playing the background. Can’t say enough great things.

   If you sit at the bar and have the unfortunate luck to get Jay as your bartender, RUN DONT WALK out of the restaurant to the amazing Italian restaurant next door. His pompous attitude to every single guest trying to spend their good hard money is embarrassing. To the owners of the restaurant, PLEASE send in “secret guests” to sit at the bar so you know how YOUR employee treats your guests that come in to have an enjoyable evening and spend probably around $200 per person. I myself worked in the service industry for years and have never seen such deliberate disrespect to others. I have never taken time out to write a bad review, I understand everyone has a bad night but this man should be ashamed and embarrassed. At first I thought it must just be us or he is very busy, but no I was unfortunately wrong. He treated every single person the same. So very sad.

   We visited here on our honeymoon in 2015, it was great to come back to the same great food and atmosphere. The various areas that the restaurant offers each have a great vibe.

   Honestly, I used to go to the restaurant a lot, but the truth is that this last time has disappointed me, the only thing that is consistent is its food, but the service was not good at all, the waiter, I have to say, was not rude, he was not up to the task , not a presentation, the food arrived before the drink, they did not ask at any time until the end if it was good... in general for the price they have it was quite disappointing.

   We were seated in the brightly lit terrace right by the service bar smack dab in a lot of activity. Was the wrong kind of energy for the evening in comparison to the warmer main dining room. Gougères were dense and overwhelmingly eggy…They are usually devoured, tonight’s batch was off. My mushroom soup was barely lukewarm, though good. The frites with the steak taste as if from frozen. Warm shrimp salad and French onion on point. Service and house wine both solid.

    The menu was outstanding but I didn’t expect the restaurant to be so charming. Our waiter was wonderfully accommodating and they had a kids menu! All around, a wonderful experience.

    The bread and the mussels are always in our ordering list. To me the bread is the main course ， especially the cranberry walnut bread and French baguette. The mussels are very fresh and large in size. Today we tried the cream brûlée and it’s excellent.

    I had heard so much about Le Diplomate as being an authentic French bistro experience. It was nothing like that. While the interior decor and ambiance is very French the food was far from it. We disliked the covered patio seating. It felt like we were in a garage. Super noisy and lacked the character that the interior space has. More importantly the food was a major disappointment. We looked as some online reviews to see what dishes we should order. We ended ordering three of their most popular items. The French onion soup, which was very average. We had the mushroom tart, which was very disappointing. Not only did it lack flavor, the crust was dry and tasteless, the mushrooms were chewy as if they were boiled, and there was zero truffle flavor in this dish. Then we had steak and frites, which should have been a slam dunk for a French bistro. I must say its the worst I’ve had in a while. The meat cut was low quality and lacked flavor. The fries were not restaurant quality, not fresh cut, and more of a frozen fast food chain fries. The Millefeuille for dessert was good so it was nice to finish on a positive note. I lived in Paris for three years and can say that a neighborhood bistro of this poor quality would struggle to stay in business. The place has a great following here in DC and should work harder to step up its game to remain relevant in a fast growing restaurant scene in DC.

    I have liked Le Diplomate since it opened. Our lunch was good as expected and the cocktail delicious. The only thing lacking yesterday was the crowd. The table next to us was so close that we were forced to listen to their entire, nonstop conversation. Maybe given the number of seats overall, the two tops could be better spaced? Our server was mediocre. Service was slow and she completely forgot that I had ordered a hamburger to go home with us.

    I've been hearing about Le Diplomate for years but only made to the restaurant this week. The French onion soup had great flavor, could have been a little hotter temperaturewise. The warm shrimp salad was absolutely delicious. I'd get that in a heartbeat on my next visit. The bread basket was wonderful. Javier was a great waiter.

    Sat in covered patio without a heater. It was very cold and we asked for the heater to be turned on, they said yes but never turned it on. Our food took an hour to come out. Our waiter was apologetic and gave us free dessert, but at this point it was very late and we wanted to go home. The dessert also took a while to come out. Overall the food was good as usual but the service and area we sat in was really terrible.

    We experienced excellent service from Liora. She did not rush us, was attentive and friendly,made great wine and food suggestions. The wine server, not sure if he was the sommelier bc he did not suggest the wine, but opened it, was generous and sent over a complimentary side dish. Food was ok. I thought the steak ( steak frites) was a bit salty- not sure if it was the seasoning on the steak, or the butter on top. My steak was a bit past the medium I’d asked for. Husband’s was fine. Frites, a very generous serving, we’re not hot. Bread basket was excellent.

    I have dined here on many occasions but this experience was really terrible . I first ordered the quiche and the server returned 10 minutes later saying they were out. I ordered the French onion soup instead . However there was clearly something wrong with the soup . It had no flavor at all , it tasted like very watered down chicken broth . I told the server I would not be able to eat it , it was so bad. I have had it here before and there was clearly a problem with this batch . By this time , my companion was already eating their main course so it was too late to order something else so I just ordered a dessert. Overall it was a very unsatisfying experience and I would hesitate to return in the future.

    Food was great. Wine was fab. Great service. The highlights were the steak tartare, onion soup and creme brulee. On a busy Saturday night they seated us within 5 minutes of our reservation time. I will say that sitting outside you definitely miss out on some of the Le Dip vibes but it is still a great time. Personally, I hate waiting so I would definitely try to get a reservation unless you’re coming late late in the evening.

    The waiter rushed us and removed my champagne glass before I even had a chance to finish it. I find it quite rude to remove one of the dinner plates before the other person had finished his/her meal. A lack of etiquette and perhaps poor training of this waiter. We have dined her several times before and never had this poor service and will now question if we will come back.

    As always, we had a wonderful dinner. This time, just drinks and apps. The tuna, steak tartare and pate apps were fantastic. Our server was great. The room fun. There's a reason this place is a tough table to book. But worth it!
