GREAT service and GREAT food! Made our nice family dinner a very special one. It’s becoming one of our favorite go-to restaurants!
Great experience. Great food.
Excellent food, creative menu and great margaritas.
We ate outside so I wasn't too loud but we would not have been able to have a conversation if we sat inside when the band was playing.
We moved inside after dinner to listen to the band.
Service and food were great
Very enjoyable. Quite popular so reservations are a good idea but didn’t seem to be much of a waiting line either time we went. However, we dined a little early. We did outdoor seating both times. Because it is popular, they began (between our two recent visits, which were about a month apart) to limit seating to a two-hour time period. They mention it when they seat you. Although, we had plenty of time and it wasn’t an issue for us. I think for a group it might be. When dining with friends we like to extend our visit so not sure we’ll follow through on the idea of taking another couple. Wonderful food choices and everything we’ve had is delicious. Staff are friendly and helpful, but they are spread a little thin. Depending on where you are seated you might feel a bit close to adjacent diners. Our first visit was a little more spacious.
Papayayo is one of my favs. They have amazing food and a great set up on their back patio
Great food and service was excellent! We will definitely be back soon!
Very good food and wine. Liked being on outside patio and could still her music and have a conversation. The restaurant is a little too pricey to go there often. Thanks for the experience!
Le Papagayo is one of the best restaurants in San Diego that most never think of. I have been to breakfast and dinner there and it's outstanding. If you like Shrimp and Grits, their breakfast choice is legit! Service and atmosphere are great. Perfect for night out with friends.
This is our 2nd time to visit this restaurant in a span of 1 month. Upon our arrival, the hostess greeted us warmly and was aware of our request for a certain table on our reservation. She explained that it was not quite ready (we were 5 minutes early) but suggested an area off to the side of their outdoor seating area to wait so we ordered something from the bar & enjoyed our cocktails until our table was ready. It was only a 10 minute wait - we didn't mind at all. We loved the classic Mussels the 1st time so we visited so we ordered it again on this visit. It was just as delicious. We tried the Macadamia crusted calamari - it was good but my wife said it was too sweet. We shared the Le Papagayo salad and the Braised Short Rib entree. It was enough for both of us and it was cooked perfectly. The presentation of all dishes were appealing. For dessert, the Banana Bread pudding & Salted Caramel Vanilla Icecream was tasty. Our server, Jessie, was attentive, friendly and had perfect timing in checking in with us. Overall, we enjoy dining at Le Papagayo and look forward to our next visit(s).
Poor service for a 9P reso. Booked later expecting smoother flow / faster delivery. 25 minutes for lobster bisque to arrive and no bowl for mussels. I had to stack the mussels on a plate and they were so high the fell on my girlfriend. Sad tunes by the musician i.e. When September ends by Green Day - why not more upbeat options during summer months? First and final visit.
Fun atmosphere. Food delicious. They forgot one meal, so the others were almost finished by the time she received hers. No compensation for their mistake. Plus it was her birthday.
Love this place. One of my favorite brunch places. The Chile verde benedict is top notch. I’m also a fan of the breakfast burrito and the oatmeal pancakes.
Very nice food and music. Worth a visit anytime
Too Busy and really seems just more like a local Hangout. And pricey for the food quality .
We made a spur of the moment decision to meet at Le Papagayo. Was the right choice for our group - many choices of draft beer, margaritas and wine. Also a great variety of appetizers. There was something for everyone.
We had the most wonderful dinner in such a pretty atmosphere. It was our 2nd time in one week being there. The first we sat near the bar and enjoyed the live music, and the 2nd we enjoyed the outdoor heated patio. The food was outstanding on both occasions, so much that I used a spoon to drink the mussels broth. All of the seafood and beef dishes were delicious, as was the sangria. Great beer selection also.
The patio was great. My food came about 10 minutes after the rest of our group did which was disappointing. Also getting water refilled took a really long time. Usually love this place but not the best service this time. Requested to sit outside, when I arrived the table was for inside. My group needed to wait 10-15 minutes to sit outside as we preferred. Great location by the coast. Service was just a miss.
Had a reservation. Asked for outside seating as part of online reservation request. Had to wait about 20 minutes to be seated. That was unusual. Anyway, we were seated in a very cozy corner with huge palm tree growing out of table! Made small area even smaller, and confining. Food was good, however, as was service
I like the staff and the locals who come here. The music is fun too. I liked the guy playing acoustic and singing songs everyone knew. The 3 piece band that was blues oriented wasn't as good, but that's just me. The food was excellent and our waitress was the best! She remembered us from previous visits. We'll be back!!
We love this place and they were so accommodating to us with our family dog for dinner on the patio on a busy holiday evening!! A keeper 👍🤗
We had a great dinner and service and the decor was very nice. The menu has a great selection of interesting dishes and we loved what we ordered. The music was good also.
Great food and atmosphere! Had the crab cakes, prime rib and some wine.
We invited friends to join us for dinner. They had never been before. Everything was fantastic. Everything we ordered was delicious, the live music was great and as always, awesome service.
Nice dinner with friends on a Wednesday evening - happy hour menu is great!
Always a great meal and time! Our server was excellent!
I enjoyed this place very much for the music, unusual menu items and desserts. The atmosphere was very relaxed and the servers were friendly.
I come here pretty regularly and i'm never disappointed. Food and drinks are amazing, staff is fun and friendly.
Too noisy; band was not good in the singing. Friendly waitress.
Everything was delicious!!!
Great server, tasty apps and nice happy hour pricing.
Its a fun place with alot of food choices. Not cheap but its good food. VERY LOUD inside. Ill sit outside next time. The coconut Margaritas were awesome. Samantha was our server and was very sweet and service oriented!!
We took our daughter out for her birthday and had the best time! The food was amazing and service outstanding. Thank you!
If you are looking for a great spot in Encinitas for dinner then this is the spot. Chef Matt is fantastic I have dietary restrictions and he made it his mission to make me a meal that was outstanding. He came out to the table and talked with me about options. Everything came out great. Talk about above and beyond. Check them out on Tuesday their happy hour is all evening and the fish tacos are great!
We came here for happy hour on Sunday. We were a bit disappointed because we had hope to get the tacos with the cheese shell but were informed that was only available during lunch. However the last time we came for a happy hour we were told they were available. The waitress basically said it depended on the cook and certain ones will still make them. However, the cook working that afternoon she knew he would not. The other couple we were with comes here more than us because they are closer and they said they have yet to figure out when the cheese shell tacos are available. It would be great if this could be added for happy hour. It’s a great keto option.
Great local place, and we're locals. That said, we did request an outside table via OpenTable, but were seated inside. Inside is WAY to loud, and soon as the staff was able to move us they did. Not sure where the fault came from, but it was all made good...cheers to Le Pappagayo for being so accommodating!
Returned to Le Papagayo after a long hiatus. Atmosphere, décor, menu and staff have greatly improved - so glad to have discovered it again. Only criticism is wait staff clearing plates when not everyone has finished their meal. Just let everyone enjoy the food, relax and chat … Otherwise, great food and fun location.
I went to Le Papagayo based on many good reviews that I read about its great Latin fusion food. First, the ambiance was EXCELLENT. However, the food and service were actually awful. I never leave reviews because I, like most people, am busy and don't have the time. Nonetheless, I feel it necessary to inform of my unlucky experience at your restaurant. We ordered many dishes to try, including the fried calamari, chicken wings, green salads, butternut squash, as well as cocktails. Nothing at all about this food was "Latin" in the sense of Latin American or even Iberian/Italic at all. I am from a family of incredible Italian cooks who would have been astonished to see that the word "ravioli" was even used for this nearly uneatable version of butternut squash. It was entirely flavorless, the filling completely lacking seasoning and texture (even a little olive oil, cream, or butter would have done it wonders). The so-called "pesto" was one of the reasons we ordered the dish in the first place (I even explained this to the server who should have then warned me), turned out a pathetic and stingy fresh parsley garnish. I suppose calling this dish "dumplings" would have better suited the dish, since it was resonant of an Asian pasta and did not utilize the basic Italian flavors in any way. The fried calamari--while I admit it must be a favorite as we saw that many tables around us had ordered it--was drenched in sweet and sour sauce that overpowered the calamari flavor we hoped for. To top the meal off, even the green salad was upsetting! In my dining experience, it is nearly impossible to ruin a simple green salad, but this is what I was unfortunately served: semi-wilted lettuce mixed greens, untossed and lacking sufficient dressing. I usually like salad lightly dressed anyway, but imagine what this experience was like: chewing mostly room-temperature dry leaves without dressing at all! Safe to say I will be warning my friends and family of this farce of restaurant hype.
