Light on the Common

Always friendly. As our visit was the evening before Tier 3 restrictions some of the items on the menu weren't available as supplies were being run down but that was totally understandable.
Terrible ambience, messy, poor service, expensive
Great burgers - smashed avocado addition is a must - And good local beer :)
Tried to get a last meal out before latest shutdown - fairly quiet night, but we were well looked after, and the idea of a choice of really tasty salad with the main course selection suited us all well
Look forward to going back after lockdown
Really great experience, covid restrictions followed and amazing food!
Really delicious food - everything was great. The staff were lovely too.
Great food and brilliant value for money when it is freshly sourced. Very safe and sanitised.
Good atmosphere and menu. Food was very salty though.
Average food. We were in the conservatory and it as cold as the front door was left open (apparently due to Covid).
Service was slow and inattentive.
Lovely food but very very noisy as no soft furnishings to absorb it.
Waitress was very attentive. Food was lovely. Thank you.
Staff are very friendly & the service was great. Food was served in good time and the burgers were excellent.
We had a lovely evening in a quiet corner of the restaurant. The service was excellent and the food delicious.
Good food, an excellent table in the window with views of the Sunday market, very good service, a thoroughly enjoyable lunch.
Love this restaurant and normally have nothing but praise for it. But unfortunately the service was really slow for my lunchtime visit. There seemed to be plenty of staff and the restaurant didn't seem overly busy but it felt they just kept forgetting about us! Food was excellent and great value. Will still continue to go there since normally everything is fantastic.
A pleasant place in a good location.
The food was good and the portion size well judged.
I fall to understand why we use it so seldom.
Poor service. Staff rushed off their feet and not Covid compliant.
We went for 21:00 dinner on a Saturday. Enjoyed the food immensely and service was efficient and good.
Pretty poor. The service was mediocre and the food was very (below) average. I has the rare breed burger, which was over cooked and dry. I would have expected better from a place like this in Wimbledon Village. It felt like it's amateur outfit and not very professional. Its a shame as the location is good.
Although the food was excellent the service here was so terrible that it ruined the entire experience. We were sat toward the back of the room and waited 40 minutes before managing to flag down a staff member to get us some menus. Utterly terrible.
We sat at the back and it was lovely and quiet. The service and food were, as always, excellent.
Too much ginger in fresh juices. Full English ok. Pity they ran out of filter coffee so we had tea which wasn’t great.
Quiet and pleasant experience, great food, prompt service, appropriately distanced tables - too many flies but it was a hot day and the doors were open!
Nice food, big over priced for the little portions but what you expect for the area. Note to the very lovely staff, remember to bring cutlery before the food arrives!
Nice place (especially if you choose to seat at the back), quick and friendly service. Menu could offer a couple more options, but food was quite tasty
A good experience but in the current situation staff had no mask and gloves
Disappointed that there was no fish on the menu on Tuesday.
I went there for dinner with few friends. We spent a very nice evening and the staff are so friendly. We will be back soon
Great service and food. The fish and salads were especially good.
Been there several Times food never disappoints, service can be slow sometimes but Covid doesn’t help that as not so many staff , would recommend this restaurant
Poor service, hot environment, long delays, very smelly.
Not the best this time round, no record of booking despite confirming day before through opentable. Understaffed despite reduced number of tables due to Covid. Waited about 25 mins for coffees, had to find waitress to order food, generally shambolic.
Food ok (brunch) but scrambled eggs were over cooked in and had a strange smoky flavour, tasted like it was cooked in a reused pan
Waitress did recognise the service was sub par and didn’t charge any service on the bill
Fantastic food
Lovely dinner for two using the eat out to help out scheme. The menu was reasonably priced for the area and the food was delicious. I had salmon and my partner had steak with one of the great selection of salads on offer. Would definitely recommend and will go back.
Great food.
.
the food is fantastic and it's a relaxed atmosphere
I felt violated sitting in this restaurant!!! Tables too close, no wait staff wearing masks, tables moved around and not wiped first, a shared pepper mill, no evidence of covid protection except a hand sanitiser at the entrance in the bar that no one used whist we were there!! Such a shame as the staff are lovely and the food is super but won’t be going there until this is over as felt unsafe. On talking to a waitress she said management had said they dont need to wear masks. I think this gives the wrong impression as no other covid protection in place and very close proximity of tables and diners, moving furniture and not wiping it first or well between customers is very wrong and dangerous. A pepper mill that moves from table to tables also very silly in these times. Needs fewer tables and there were no paper towels in the bathrooms either 😕
I have been eating at the Light on the Common for a few years. Service has always been a little haphazard but food is generally good. However, my last visit was disappointing. Cleanliness was poor, food remained on the floor from previous diners for the whole 2 hours we were there, I didn't see the tables wiped in between diners. Spacing between tables was only just ok. In times of Covid 19 this is not acceptable.
My friend's order was incorrect & the attitude of the waitress was questioning rather than accepting their mistake.
Improvements should be made.
We visited Light on the Common on one of the hottest days this summer. There is no air conditioning and they tried to cool the space with small floor fans and by opening doors to create a cross breeze. It was still really hot. The service was SLOW and not particularly attentive and the food (we were there for a late breakfast) was mediocre. The coffee was tasty but just not hot enough and the food items were OK... but only OK.
It's such a lovely little place where I have eaten before, but unfortunately on this occasion it just wasn't that great.
