The Sunset Tower Hotel has been an LA icon since 1929, although it recently had a total makeover bringing both the exterior and interior bang up to date. The Tower Bar is a softly lit, cozy place to enjoy amazing city views and food from a range of carefully crafted menus. The tacos are a luxury version of the Mexican classic: lobster tacos with chipotle aioli, avocado and cilantro. Available as an appetizer on dinner menu or as a main at lunchtime.

This Hollywood Mexican joint has been wowing city-goers since 1975. The dining area is full of Mexican art and artifacts. The menu is just as authentic, offering family recipes handed down through the generations. Unsurprisingly, the tacos here are excellent. Corn tortillas, chicken, shrimp, fish, and beef are all done to perfection, with a range of sides including rice, authentically cooked bean and, of course, house guacamole. Don’t leave here without trying the world-famous Flaming Margarita!

This Manhattan Beach casual restaurant is a favorite place for friends to get together. The space allows guests to push table together and the décor is both chic and deliberately run down- think industrial warehouse made cozy. Lunchtime is the best time for tacos lovers. The Henry certainly isn’t a typical taco joint. Rows of smart booths and pendulum lights combine with smart and attentive service to create a classic fine-dining experience, but without any pretentions. The tacos that made it onto this list are a vegetarian option, but there’s so much flavor even the most dedicated carnivore will love them. The Portobello “Asada” Tacos combine mushrooms, quinoa, refried lentils and authentic flavors for a surprising and satisfying lunchtime treat.

Strips of pale wood and massive paintings of ships at sea combine with a colorful and exciting menu. There are Ivy specials on here, some exciting examples of Californian cuisine, plus plenty of local seafood.
