I’d seen the outside of this place many times while driving through Laguna Beach and thought it looked like a nice place for a dinner date. My gf thought the same so we decided to try it out. Admittedly, I didn’t look at the pictures of the interior before going, so I guess it’s my own fault for being slightly disappointed by the ambiance of the place. I really love rustic and cottage-like settings, so when I saw the outside, I assumed that’s what I would get inside. It sort of reminded me more of the inside of a Houston’s steak house, but that’s not anything to complain about, per se.
I had their special of the evening - a miso marinated barramundi served over mashed potatoes, and an edamame, corn, and mushroom ragout. The fish could have been abit more flavorful, but it was well prepared and the accompaniments were very tasty. My gf had the halibut and was pretty underwhelmed by it, unfortunately. Again, well prepared, but lacking in the flavor department. The real winner of the evening - we both agreed - was the dessert. We shared a salted caramel bread pudding with vanilla bean ice cream, and that made up for whatever shortcomings were present in the main course.
The real highlight of this place for me was the service. Our server, Chad, was very attentive, helpful, and polite. The rest of the support staff was equally helpful and accommodating. They even noticed we’d run out of wonton crisps for our ahi poke appetizer (which, though abit salty, was still good), so they proactively had the kitchen bring out some more at no charge.
All things considered, Lumberyard made for a nice night out, and I think we’d go back again, if for no other reason than to have another go at the bread pudding ;-)
This was a weeknight and maybe the kitchen wasn't really open? Anyhoot, rotisserie was extra dry and was presented looking like a stew. My partner's Fries under his ribs were actually cold as in frigid. Noticed everyone else in the restaurant was ordering burgers. Will try again on a weekend because it's menu has possibilities just need the kitchen to live up to the expectations.
Had a great time. They were out of a few bottles of wine but suggested others so it was a very good experience! The staff was amazing and the food was delicious.
We liked the variety of menu items.
My husband is a meat eater and I had seafood, both were delicious.
The service by Allison was very distasteful. After ordering our meals and drinks everything seemed to be going smoothly till I noticed a bug on my drink? Once I got our waiters attention and mentioned there was a bug on my drink Allison grabbed my drink and said “oh no problem let me get you a new one” not once did she apologize or had a manager come over to our table to follow up with the incident.
When Allison walked over to the bar she made a comment to the other waiter/bartender and they both laughed. When Allison returned to our table to bring my née drink to the table she dropped it off and said “here is your bug free drink” Allison giggled and walked away and service because very dismissive.
I felt discriminated against for perhaps being a minority as 2 other tables were being waited with a better attitude.
Very good service. Nice menu with lots of choices. I had crab cake salad which was very good and more than enough for me. BF had French dip which he enjoyed. Parking was easy, only one block away.
High quality comfort food. Everything came out as described. Salmon, ribs and zuchini planks were exceptional. Our server, Allie, was friendly and patient with our large group.
Always good. Best cornbread on planet earth.
Great service although our server was on the run most of the evening (seemed not to have enough servers). Food was excellent; very nice end to the Labor Day weekend.
Great date night spot! They have so many food choices from seafood to steak and pasta so you can’t go wrong. The calamari was delicious and flaky.
We had tickets to Pageant of the Mastered- four couples. We had a very nice dinner, menu was broad and easily accommodated everyone. Food was great. Service was great. Will be happy to come back again.
Great food and ambience. Service was very good and it was an enjoyable night.
Have eaten here many times and as always the food was amazing and the service was great.
If attending the Pageant of the Masters (and if you park from 6pm and on) on the street, you have 3 hours via a meter then free from there...so a 6pm reservation is perfect cause you don't have to move your car and a very easy 5 minute walk to the venue.
A great place for a pre-pageant dinner and in a great location!
Dinners were delicious and the Apple Cobbler we shared was so good and such a generous portion.
Excellent food and attentive service. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
Excellent food and exceptional service!
Four of us had dinner before the Pageant of the Masters. Service was great! One had the mushroom past-she loved it. One had ribs - he was very happy. Another had fish and chips. Also very good. And I had the beet salad with chicken. The artichoke appetizer was sufficient. The bread pudding was good - maybe I will try the chocolate chip cookie next time!
It’s within walking distance of the show.
Great as always.. Cheers to the Lumberyard. The salmon was spectacular along with the cornbread.
Pleasantly surprised by the quality and tradition of the restaurant. However, they nickel and dime a bit....charging for tiny breadbasket, for example.
Great food! Great service! Great time!
Our reservation was ready when we arrived, and they were able to seat us on the patio which is perfect for a summer evening. The best place to dine close to the Pageant of the Masters.
The food and service were great, however the noise level made it difficult to have a conversation with people at our table.
Great location for downtown Laguna Beach, Pagent of the Masters and Sawdust Festival. Nothing spectular but all good.
Solid but not exceptional. Really noisy inside. We sat on the tiny patio outside and it was much better.
Pageant of the Masters
Excellent spot to get dinner before the Pageant of the Masters or when visiting near the village of Laguna Beach. Good selection of "comfort food" options, salads and nice wine list. I enjoyed the meatloaf with mushroom demiglace and my aunt really liked her BBQ ribs. Also had the salmon, which was great. Service was professional & friendly. We will return!
Food and service ALWAYS consistently high quality!
We go to The Lumberyard every year before we attend the Pageant. As usual we were NOT disappointed
Always a pleasant evening when dining at Lumberyard, good food, good crowd, good service. Like most places, less menu options since COVID. Still good choices but would like to see it expand soon.
We arrived earlier then our reservation and was seated in a booth . We had cocktails and a wonderful dinner .
Very good "comfort food". One of a few places where you can still get ribs. We eat here before attending the Pageant of the Masters as it is close to the theater. They have a small outdoor patio where the noise level is wonderfully low. Prices are reasonable too. All in all, a good place to get lunch or dinner in Laguna Beacjh.
Great place, nice ambiance. Food was excellent. Our waitress was very nice but she got a few things wrong. Not a big deal, just felt she wasn’t listening or distracted. We will be back!
We enjoyed our dinner at the Lumberyard before we went to The Pageant of the Masters. It was the perfect location to park and walk to before the event. Our meal was delicious and our server was very attentive. We would highly recommend the Lumberyard for dinner!
The food was excellent and the service even better. Very positive attitude and look forward to visiting the Lumberyard again in the future.
Was fabulous, food, drink, service...all excellent!
Everything was good halibut and salmon was very good waiter was very attentive only issue was very loud in restaurant
The food was delicious and service was great. We appreciated our waitress advising us to order right away in order to get to the Pageant of the Masters on time. We had a perfect table on the patio (not the "yard"). The inside dining area was very busy and noisy. We had a great experience!
The salmon was absolutely delicious. Our server was knowledgeable and personable, a terrific combination. Made good wine recommendations. The acoustics were substandard for such a nice spot, making the dining room very loud, and that took away from the ambiance. We would go back.
No social distancing and no masks. Only 2 restrooms. Doors were open but hot inside didn’t feel like AC was on.
Great food, great salted caramel bread pudding, perfect portions, great service.
Can’t wait to go back!
